  • Hello , how much cost an B2 ? I've search the price alot of times but I never found it :/

  • @XFrozenmetal Hi there. As far as I know Doug isn't building any guitars to order at the moment, so there's no current price for one. It used to be around 2500 Euro, I believe (but I could be wrong). Your only chance at current would be to get one second hand (ebay etc.).

    Cheers,

    C

  • I tried the Ibanez 8 string at a music show a few years ago and I didn't like it. The neck is just too damn square. Plus, next to the Blackmachine, it looks like a toy.

  • @theMachineandI well put! haha :D

I will say, though, that it serves as a perfectly useful backup in live situations ... and since I've had a DiMarzio D-Activator 8 put in the bridge, it actually sounds pretty decent, too :) (Obviously still no where near as good as the Blackmachine ;)).

    Cheers,

    C

  • @CliveJevons Yeah, man. Just like having a Morris Minor is better that having no car at all. If I were on the stage and my BMs string broke, or something, I wouldn't hesitate in picking up an Ibanez. Hopefully it would be a JS model; those things are by far the best Ibanez I've ever played. Save for the sacred RG 550 I tried out when I was 13 and didn't buy. I think we've all got that "one the got away", though, haven't we?

  • @theMachineandI haha - yeah, I remember trying out an Ibanez Universe back when they were just released ... I was really intrigued by the concept of 7 strings and fun jamming on it in the music store; but I was still in school then and couldn't afford it :( Looking back, I'd have LOVED to have been able to get it ...

  • @CliveJevons I've never been able to get my hands on a Universe, only RG 7s. I wish I could. Even though Vai's guitars are always quite gaudy - I mean white, gold, and pearl, really? They're usually very good.

  • @theMachineandI his guitars match the fan he uses onstage in Spinal-Tap-esqueness (sorry, I'm making words up now ;))

  • I think RG2228 is the best 8 strings guitar!!!

  • @rinaldinrobert Everyone is entitled to their opinion ;) I'd still take my Blackmachine or my Hufschmid over the Ibanez any old day :D ... but that's NOT to say that the Ibanez isn't a great guitar per se. I've put a DiMarzio D-Activator 8 in the bridge of my RG2228 since making this vid, and its really brought the guitar alive!

I've currently got a Schecter ATX C-8 on order. Will be interesting to see how that compares to the Ibby.

    Cheers,

    C

  • @CliveJevons i'd like to hear rg2228 with di marzio d-activator 8 (i know it's a great pick up, but i don't know if it is better that emg808 or emg808x)... can u make a video please?? XD

  • @rinaldinrobert I'll try and get something up with the D-Activator 8 in it. When it comes down to it, its a matter of taste - if you like active pickups, you'll prefer the EMGs, if, like me, you prefer passive pickups, then you'll prefer the D-Activator. Can't promise how soon I'll be able to do a a vid with 'em - but I've been planning some more comparison vids for a while now, so that will be one of them :D

    Cheers,

    C

  • locking tunas?!?!

  • @BenEnyuh ROFL!

Yes, its a very rare and exotic ocean dwelling piscine being used in the production of high end custom mandolins and other eight stringed instruments.

  • OMG....the first guitar review like video on Youtube i've found where the reviewer is not a complete cunt...thumbs up to you sir!

  • @MilitantOldLady LOL thanks :)))

  • @CliveJevons

Im enjoying your channel, love the 8string tele...been looking up videos on the RGA8, nearly had an ulcer suffering through those, your videos are a really nice change, listening to someone who knows what they are talking about, politely

  • I'm on kinda a low budget but i want a 8 string, Any suggestions, I also live in Australia.

  • @welza0045 Check out RAN Guitars, Schecter, ESP LTD and Agile. They offer lower-priced 8 string guitars.

  • @CliveJevons How low? Cause i have about $1000 to play around with...

  • @welza0045 I'll direct message you via YouTube so that I can include links ...

  • @welza0045 there's a lower end ibanez 8 string, the rga8. which in my opinion looks better and if you replace the pickups for emg's 808 it's basicly the same as the rg2228 but made in indonisia and half the price.

  • I bet that little red guitar in the back shreds the most ass.

  • @cheesysoup Oh HELLZ yes! That's a death-metal-shredding-machine-mayhem-madness-ukulele ... very hard to come by!! hehe \m/ \m/

    Cheers,

    C

  • Curse you for forcing me to sit through Metallica while you did this review !

    Blackmachine 8 = Perfection!

  • Hey bRo,U'Re awesome! I'm watched so many of youR VDO,I need to know what is the song u open foR the backgRound of this VDO..It's kool!! I heaRd some Viking melody and it's Koollll!! please tell me the name of the band and song...tHX!

  • @shoke13shoke13 Thnx man :) Its the song Die For Me by Bludgeoned.

    Cheers,

    C

  • Fuck man, I am ecstatic to finally hear an English-speaker pronounce Ibanez somewhat properly.

And the single-string bridges are most likely German-made ABMs.

  • @PikkaBird LOL - I think one of the first comments on this vid was 'you're not pronouncing Ibanez correctly' haha :)

Yeah - now you mention it, ABM rings a bell! Thanks :)

    Cheers,

    C

  • @CliveJevons Well, everybody is wrong about that, even Ibanez employees and the people who speak in their videos and convention spokespeople. Nothing in the Spanish rules of pronounciation suggests that it should be EYEbanez. And come to think of it- Even in English, words where an I at the beginning is pronounced 'eye' are in the minority, aren't they?

  • @PikkaBird hehe - yeah, I'd based my pronounciation on Italian, which I've spent some time learning and figured it would be fairly close to the Spanish ;) I'll keep it to 'ee-banez' then haha :D

    Cheers,

    C

  • @PikkaBird It's pronounced 'Ebanez'? What, I speak in a British accent and say Eye-banez... Are you sure?

  • @samathanwataguan One billion percent... Even though the people at Ibanez themselves pronounce it Eye-banez. Remember that it's a Spanish name that Hoshino Gakki bought way back to help them enter the "western" market. If I wanted to be REALLY pedantic I'd say "Ee-BAN-yes", since it was originally spelled 'Ibáñez', but with those accent marks dropped from the offcial spelling, I'll be happy as long as the vowel sounds are at least kept intact.

  • @PikkaBird isn't "z" pronounced like a "th" in spanish? making it "Ee-Ban-yeth".

  • @killeraxeboy Oh yeah, I forgot to put that in there... You are correct. A general tendency in Spanish seems to be that every consonant sounds a little lazy and should be spoken with a numb tongue and lips (V becomes a mumbling B, Z becomes TH, etc.)

  • @samathanwataguan yeah, it is Spanish name. =)

  • Fuck man, I am ecstatic to finally hear an English-speaker pronounce Ibanez somewhat properly.

  • Blackmachine WINS

  • I always come across your videos and you have so much gear. Where does all the fockin money come from?

  • @pockthehairy honest, hard work, mate - there's no magic (or rich parents or trust funds) to it ;) Like these last few weeks, for example, while everyone else was on holiday, I worked right through ;)

    Cheers,

    C

  • @CliveJevons Haha I worked 6 days a week for almost 3 months over Summer but unfortunately rent is a motherfuckkkerrr

  • @pockthehairy ... the standing costs are a pain in the backside for sure!!! :( I'm paying off two mortgages and have the running costs of a household plus three kids and three dogs to feed. Not much left after that - which is why next to working I also have to save like a MF. No holidays, no fancy cars, no nights out in the Disko (like I would anyway LOL). Just saving for the next guitar and / or amp ;)

    C

  • @CliveJevons Haha Jaysuz I guess you've got a lot more responsibility financially than I could ever know. You still make me highhhly jealous with the amount of equipment. 8 Strings and Diezel amp in particular. I haven't had a look yet but I'm sure you've got an Axe FX laying around somewhere as well haha

  • @pockthehairy ... those are my pride and joy :)))

Haven't got an Axe FX yet ... been considering getting one though. But they seem to be few and far between and Germany at the moment :( The other things I'm considering for my next purchase (the saving for which is ongoing at the moment) are 1) another Hufschmid 2) another 4x12 Diezel cab (to make the most of the S in my VH4S ;)) or 3) an Axe FX (maybe save a bit longer and go Ultra). Undecided as yet. But the saving will take a while LOL

    C

  • @CliveJevons Anything Diezel always catches my eye. I think it was the Herbert I tried before; quite a small head but the tone was fatter than anything I've ever heard. Horrible price though haha. I was really set on buying the Axe FX, I got enough money for it but it'll leave me with nothing. I was looking at the new POD HD500. You got any opinion on that as you seem to have a good comparison of gear?

  • @pockthehairy Haven't tried any of the Line6 gear for guitars, but my brother swears by their bass equipment - so I'm guessing it should be OK. I love the concept of the whole amp model + fx + midi controller in one package, hence got myself a Zoom g7.1ut, and am really happy with what it offers. If the POD is anything like that, then it should be full of WIN ;)

I'm really intrigued by the AxeFX though, as lots of musicians I really respect have had nothing but good things to say about it!

    C

  • @CliveJevons Yeah it seems to be the only digital device which actually sounds like a real amp which was my main attraction to it. But apparently the new Pods have similar sounds. I did find a video on youtube which compares the two and the Pod does come quite close. For a lot less than half the price it seems worth it.

  • @pockthehairy ... sounds like something I'll have to have a closer look at myself, then!! :) If you do end up getting one, I'd be much obliged if you'd let me know what you think of it :D

    Cheers,

    C

  • let me buy your blackmachine!

  • @baldeeee hehe - make me an offer I can't refuse ;))) \m/

    Cheers,

    C

  • @CliveJevons surely that's an oxymoron! ha! who in their right mind would sell their blackmachine : )

  • @baldeeee hehe - you saw right though me!! ;) I was only teasing you, sorry ;) (mind you - a seven figure sum might get me thinking ROFL).

  • Cheers

  • hey does Bludgeoned have a CD out?

  • @JPMisery Unfortunately not. Our drummer absconded to Berlin before we could get it out :( You can check out some of the tracks we recorded prior to that at bludgeoned with a dot and a net, though :) \m/ \m/

    Cheers,

    C

  • what is your opinion on the lundgren M8 pickups? im considering swapping my emg 808 for one.

  • @DanThornton01 I didn't like them in my Blackmachine. That's not to say they won't work well in other guitars ... they were certainly very well made pickups. Nothing beats Hufschmid custom pups IMHO, though ;) (Got a set of those in my Blackmachine now - very very happy with the sound now!)

    Cheers,

    C

  • you sir are a god among men.

  • Background song is?

  • @minzulla 'Die For Me' by Bludgeoned (with a dot and a net for the web site).

  • @CliveJevons

where did you buy your blackmachine 8 string because im looking to buy one

  • @NotoriusWhitey from Doug himself - blackmachine with a dot and a net.

  • great comparison man!, can you please tell me what string gauge are you using in the 7th and 8th strings on both guitars?

  • @BrutalG0re thnx man :) I'm using a .052 and .072 on all my 8 string for the low B and F strings.

  • @CliveJevons thank you dude, im asking because im doing some modifications in one of my guitars (its a dean ML), new paintjob, im gnna change the bridge pickup (i still dont know wich one should i put there maybe an emg 81) and put some really thick strings on it for A and G# tunings, can you recomend me a good pickup for this?

  • @BrutalG0re I personally love the DiMarzio Evolution and the SD Dimebucker pickups. I've heard great things about their D-Activator pups also. If you want to go active, you might also want to consider the SD Blackouts. But, as with the D-Activators, I only know them by reputation, as I'm not a huge fan of active pups - that's only a matter of taste though ;)

I've got a Epi ZW LP with EMG HZ pups tuned really really low - they handle that quite well also ...

    Cheers,

    C

  • @BrutalG0re The EMG 81 will not handle those lows. Look in to Bare Knuckle pickups.

  • @LessthanJake14 yeah i asked some people about this and they say dimarzio d-activators can, and some others recomend the dimarzio evolution like CliveJevons did, maybe i will buy the d activator or the evolution soon, the problem with the bare knuckle is that are more expensive and hard to get than dimarzios

  • @BrutalG0re Oh, if you live in the USA, forget about Bare Knuckle.

Go for the D-Activators, or maybe the X2N if you like furious tone.

  • @LessthanJake14 hahah im not from USA, im from mexico but in this fucking shit if you see something cheap it's 100% sure is just crap and EVERYTHING about guitar gear is extremely overpriced and get good guitars, pickups, amps, pedals etc. is a pain in the ass, everything i got costed much more than the original price but i have to deal with that. cheers \m/

  • @BrutalG0re You think YOU have it bad? Really? The USA gets off with dirt-cheap deals when compared to the UK. A guitar of, say, $500 in the USA probably costs £420 which is equivalent to about $760.

  • When can we hear the music in the video??

    Can't wait!

  • @ESP4thaWin that's a tough question LOL I've been trying to get someone to do cover art for the EP, but its just not happened. I'm considering just releasing the music for free download over at bludgeoned with a dot and a net.

  • for me it looks like the blackmachine has no soul

  • rg2228 is the most overpriced guitar of all time

  • @deadmetal5000 i may have to disagree... i have seen fenders and gibsons for over 5 or 6 grand... i understand the value of some gibsons to be that high... but really... do you need to pay enough to buy a car for a guitar that looks and nearly sounds like a shit ton of others with a 5 grand price tag on it??? i undertand what you mean though about the ibanez.

  • @metaldemonseanknels it was an exaggeration lol i just mean that you can get a much much much nicer guitar for under a grand. 8 strings too. rondomusic. com

  • you clearly perfer the blackmachine. you have no vids of the ibanez from what i saw

  • @deathcore1239 Yup. Although I must admit that I haven't gotten round to doing many vids since that one. The recent ones have all featured the Hufschmid 8 I got a year back. The Ibby is definitely more of an on-stage backup for those two at the moment ...

    Cheers,

    C

  • what song is being played at 5:34\??? its a very heavy and nice song\m/

  • @tibi1687 its called 'Trapped', and is one from our band 'Bludgeoned' on the EP 'To Death' :) \m/ \m/

    Cheers,

    C

  • @1985guy1985 those are two of our (Bludgeoned) originals from our, as yet unreleased, EP 'To Death'. The first one is called 'Die For Me', and the second 'Trapped'. \m/ \m/

    Cheers,

    C

  • What amp you using? I've got a hughes and Kettner Attax (solid state) with a seperate tube processor, which is basically a shoe box with 2 6LC tubes in, so they are external tubes that go through the line in output, and turn the solid state into a tube amp. So basically I've got a Hughes And Kettner Attax with 2 6LC Tubes, how will an 8 string perform through it?

  • @frazer1949 Hey man \m/

Live I play through a Diezel VH4S (with an Einstein as backup). At home I'm using a Zoom G7.1ut multieffect with amp modelling and a pre-amp tube for adding warmth. Works great through both of those setups.

Haven't had a chance to try the HnK Attax out myself. If it has a nice, tight bass response, then that's half the battle won! You could try simulating an 8 string by using a downtuning effect, either as a pedal or via a computer ...

    Cheers,

    C

  • I was after the ibanez, but the basswood body put me off completely. They brought a new ibanez 8 string out. But its literally impossible to reach the 24th fret. Fuck buying ibanez 8 string. save up and buy a black machine.

  • @TheFpb2 Thnx man :) \m/

    Cheers,

    C

  • how much did the blackmachine cost you good sir

  • @onofregarcia88 about 3k Euro back in the day :)

    Cheers,

    C

  • @CliveJevons tnx man

  • @CliveJevons DAM hehehe 3000.0 Euro = 170674.061933 Philippine Peso

  • @onofregarcia88 WOAH! *That* number is a *lot* scarier!! LOL

  • @CliveJevons thats how much it is in mu currency haha..dam man that a lot ROFL

  • Who is that band singing in the background?

    Great demo by the way!

  • @DeniStoneX Thnx :)

The band's called 'Bludgeoned'. I've got some old live vids of us playing on my channel, too :)

    \m/ \m/

    Cheers,

    C

  • if i ever find someone with a blackmachine im stealing it

  • i never even heard of the blackmachine 8 until now.

  • @panteraman44 LOL - yeah, I've let the German pronunciation infect me haha

  • @ReActSound Yup :) IMHO, they definitely work better in the BM (I think you already saw the vid ;)).

  • Is this a custom model comparison to a production model? The pros and cons will speak for themselves that way, don't ya think?

  • @ageyisgod Not necessarily - depends on whether its a *good* custom model (which it is) LOL

Seriously, though - you're right in that a custom model will pretty much always be better than a production - however, the question is whether its also as good as or better value for money ;) (Which in this case it definitely is IMHO).

    Cheers,

    C

  • @ageyisgod Also, I was trying to compare the BM to the Ibanez, as many people will have access to the Ibanez, so that they can get a reference point, and then this video is an attempt to help them understand what the BM is like, as they are very much less likely to have access to one in order to be able to try it themselves, if you get what I mean.

  • anyone know how much that Blackmachine costs??/

I'm looking at both the 7 string and the 8 string.

  • @bigdavid351 Have a dig through the comments on this and some of my other vids - you should find what you're looking for :)

    Cheers,

    C

  • @bigdavid351 they're not cheap for a b2 which is a bare bones it's like $2600 and they only go up from there i think you're looking at $4000 at least for a 7 or 8

  • the head stock on the blackmachine looks diabolic

  • I love your accent!

  • Hey Clive what's going on brother.. So the new Haussel pick ups didn't do it for ya.. Why..? Talk about man. what was it? Tone, how much drive, nice cleans, bad distortion..?? You're da MAN to ask.. thanks brother and keep rockn man.. Peace..!

  • Just not for Metal ... love the tone in general, but they don't have enough attack for Metal, that's all. Really gorgeously warm, rich tone with great harmonic response - just a tad to vintage for what I was hoping for ;)

  • i wish Ibanez could use better woods for the RG' s cause alot of ppl just dont like Basswood and the sound is too light. also have you considered swapping the Emg's for Blackouts. cause i think the tone would be alot better but what do you think.?

  • I'd certainly be interested in trying the Blackouts to see just how much difference it would make. Ultimately, though, I think a pair of Hufschmid custom Kent Armstrong pickups is the way to go :) \m/ \m/

And I fully agree on Ibanez and woods ... I get why they do it though, and in a way am glad that someone how is mass producing guitars in that way isn't using up the stocks of good and/or exotic woods like there's no tomorrow LOL

    Cheers,

    C

  • @CliveJevons

Btw thanks for putting up this vid cause now i know Blackmachine , and they seem like pretty amazing guitars. sinse i have a Problem with Esp cause the necks are too thin , i dont like mahogany , and i hate Emg's , And Ibanez cause i dont like Basswood (amazing craftsmanship , but i just dont Like Basswood), But Blackmachine is almost like a custom cause you get to choose your pickups and hardware Metals and they just look like amazing quality instruments, so i might check one out

  • @CliveJevons

btw give me your opinnion cause you seem to know what your talking about :)

  • Hey man :)

Yeah - the Blackmachine's are amazing instruments!! If you can get your hands on one, definitely go for it \m/

You'll also want to check out Patrick Hufschmid - he also builds amazing custom 8 string guitars - although he does use Mahogany (but some of the more exotic types, and also other woods, so I'd def. recommend checking it out)!!.

    Cheers,

    C

  • @CliveJevons

Well im fine with mahogany , just without Emg's Lol

And Blackmachine uses Swamp Ash (or Ash i dont remember) Which is a rly good wood , but not many other companys use it unfortunately

    And thanks :)

  • ... I've been toying with the idea of swapping out the EMGs for something else myself. I have a pair of M8s lying around which were in the Blackmachine (I've now got Häussels in there) - but they didn't do it for me :( ... I'd quite like to get a pair of Patrick Hufschmid's custom pups in there - he's just started selling them seperately, but only 6 and 7s so far. The 8s will follow, I'm told ;)

... off to check out you're page right now ;)

    Cheers,

    C

  • god dammit !!! i appreciate these videos but people really need to stop going through all the specs. We can look at those on the website a lot faster than you can explain them ! Just get to the tone and playing !!!

  • how much do blackmachines generally cost and how do you get a hold of one?

  • AFAIK the 8s are now >3k Euro, and you'll have to get hold of Doug personally to be able to order one - and once you've ordered, I believe its currently a >3yrs wait, due to the huge backlog of orders he has :(

    C

  • the 0.72's i use arnt tapered... so they wont fit?

  • ... the string doesn't fit through the hole, to put it another way ;)

Its not a critical flaw, but one hell of an annoyance when changing strings :( Esp. seeing as the machine heads on both the Blackmachine and the BlackDroid have no problem accommodating the same .072s.

    Cheers,

    C

  • its all good all good....

  • what ever man...it all depends on what kind of music you play and how you play... doesn't matter what guitar you have...or how expensive your equipment is....cheers...offcours its awesome to have a kick ass guitar that sounds like thunder in the sky...but ya know what i mean...

  • Absolutely! All I'm saying is, given the choice between the Ibanez and the BM if money's not an option, then I'd *personally* take the BM any day ;) But guitars are a very personal thing - and just because *I* like the BM better doesn't mean you have to :D

And exactly like you say - in the end, it all comes down to playing music and having fun (I'm paraphrasing you - hope you don't mind ;)).

    Cheers,

    C

  • ... and everyone is entitled to their opinion :D

I find the Ibanez eminently playable also. Just not a big fan of active pups, myself. Also, IMHO the BM's build quality is way above and beyond that of the Ibbys ... but that's just my opinion hehehe ;) \m/

    Cheers,

    C

  • which would you say was more worth it? cause I've heard the blackmachine's are not only very expencive but they're also VERY hard to get, whereas the 2228 is reasonably priced and easy to get as you can order it straight from ibanez

  • If you can get a Blackmachine, get it :D But the problem is - as you mention yourself - they're nigh on impossible to get at the moment, as Doug has such a huge backlog, its going to be YEARS before he takes on any more orders AFAIK. (Keep your eyes on his site none the less, in case this changes). The Ibanez will be far easier to get.

BUT - check out Patrick Hufschmid's 8s. Just got one and I love it! (+ cheaper than a BM ;)).

  • sounds sweet, I watched a video of you trying it out, what would I be looking at for one of those? (the Hufschmid)

  • 8 string Hufschmids are around 2600 Euros, depending on the exchange rates when you purchase ;)

    Cheers,

    C

  • awesome ^_^ and is this dude like fully trusted? I don't have to worry about losing my money or shit like that?

  • Absolutely trust-worthy. In fact, it was the best experience I've had buying a guitar, ever. Period. He keeps you completely up-to-date with the build process by sending you pics and vids, and he works incredibly fast :)

Its also worth chatting to him about guitars - he's a veritable pool of knowledge, so you're bound to be able to pick up a bunch of tips :D \m/

    Cheers,

    C

  • awesome, do you think you could make a video running through the specs of your guitar by Patrick? cause I'd like to see exactly how good his work is, I've already watched the video of you playing it and I love the sound

  • I'm definitely doing that :)

    Cheers,

    C

  • i would take an ibanez....its sound amazing and very playable....

  • I like that lesbian guitar with the wiked ass head.

  • How does the 2228 compares to your K-7 in terms of build quality and overall finish?

I really liked the neck on my friend's 2228 alot better than my K-7's, going to do a satin finish on the neck.

  • I'd say the two of them are on par as far as build quality is concerned. The K-7 has slightly better wood IMHO. But I'd have to agree with you that the RG2228's neck feels better than the K-7's (which is why I had mine altered LOL). But that, of course, is a taste thing - so there's no strict right and wrong ;)

    Cheers,

    C

  • What's the name of the first song in the background?

  • Its called 'Die For Me'.

  • i put an .80 as my 8th string on my ibanez and got fed up as well with the tuning pegs hahaha

  • :)

Did you swap them out? If so, which ones did you go with?

    C

  • haven't done anything yet don't really know what i should go with basically just did the same thing as you and just cut off the bit of the string that i didn't need.

  • I'd quite like to put Sperzel in there myself, but a) I haven't found anywhere I can buy 8 yet (only ever in packs of 6 - still looking for the right vendor)

    b) not sure whether they'll fit without having to alter the size of the holes.

But once I've sorted a) I'll sure find out about b) lol

    Cheers,

    C

  • hello very intrested in yhe blackmachine guitars and was wondering how much you paid fot yours if you dont mind. I know the cost varies on certain custom models but i just need a ballpark of price.

  • I paid about 3000 Euros for mine back then - but AFAIK Doug's upped the prices since then (understandably ;)).

    Cheers,

    C

  • I have an agile intrepid pro with a custom set of 808's in the neck and bridge (only came as the bridge as standard), and i played it against the Ibanez Rg2228, it annihilated it, and it was only £850 including the mods so id recommend getting one of those and selling your Ibanez. There just better value for guitar, and youd bake your money back selling it so you have twice the guitar for half the money. Makes sense to me:D

  • Hehe - getting something even better - a custom Hufschmid :D ... I'll have to see if I'll still hang onto the Ibby after getting that lol - maybe just as a backup-backup kind of thing. Or maybe donate it to the 2nd guitarist in my new band so that we can get some looooooow shreddage going on hehe \m/

  • how thick is the body of the blackmachine?

  • Very thin :) Haven't got it next to me right now, but if you're interested I'll take a ruler to it later?

  • It would be a plasure, thanks! :D

  • Right - its about 3.7cm deep. The RG2228 (just for comparison) is about 4.4cm deep.

  • Where did you find that BM?

  • Got it directly from Doug.

  • is the 0' 72 a bass string dude? Im getting an Ibanez rg 2228 monday! But i heard the standard set sux.. and i will get new one right away. I cant find any 8 string sets

  • Nah - the 0.072 is a guitar string. I get the ones by D'Addario - they even have thicker ones (I think up to 0.082?) ... you should be able to order them from any decent music store (but they'll probably have to order them extra ...).

Yeah - the 2228 comes with a 0.062, which is way to thin IMHO. But try it out first - everyone has different tastes ;)

  • Just curious... have you tried the EMG's on the RG at 18V?

  • Not yet - but its on my ToDo list - I read up on it a while back, and it looks like a really interesting solution to the 'compression problem' :) \m/

  • What string do you use for your 8s?

  • I use a D'addario - a 'standard' .009 set for the normal 6 strings, then an 0.52 and an 0.72.

  • Do you order the 52 and 72 separately or get them in other packs?

  • I currently play with a 6 string, and interested in upping my string count. Would I be better off starting with a 7 string and upgrading to an 8 once i'm use to a 7 sting. Or should I take the risk of jumping right on an 8 string possibly having the advantage of working around the 7 string? I eventually want to own an 8 string guitar but I don't want to learn it with frustration... or being too uncomfortable. This being said at a time when I have never even held a 7 string. Thanks for the video.

  • Out of necessity I went with a 7 string first, then an 8 (I'd never seen an 8 string guitar when I bought my first 7 string as only obscure Jazz players were using them at that time ;)). Looking back on both experiences, though, I'd say you'd be fine going straight to eight - either which way it'll take a month or two to get really comfortable with the extra strings (although you'll be playing fine in a week or so) - if eight is your goal - get that \m/ ;)

  • Thanks for your response. Looks like i'm going to get a 7-string for now being that it is hard to come by one of those thick necked beasts. Any objections to Ibanez for a first 7-string? They seem to be a popular choice. I'm comfortable playing with my 2 Jackson's (both are Rhoads) and a Washburn. I know nothing about Ibanez except that they are 'from what I hear' the best for 7-strings. My local music shop did not have any for me to test however they did have a Schecter. Thanks for your input.

  • I've got two Ibanez 7s (a K-7 and an RG 1527), and am very happy with both. I've tested a few Schecters in music stores before, and found them to be agreeable too ... I don't think you'll go far wrong with either.

  • not a big difference...besides your palm placement but after riffing for a few hours you shouldnt have a problem. dnt get an 8 if you dont got a good amp to jam out of cuz itll sound like shiiiiiit. id say buy a seven and go custom on an 8 n while your waiting for your build play the seven haha....but make sure you know what your doing on a 6 first. cuz itll go to waste bottom line.
