  • "White people want what you got ?" that comment is needed because ?

How do people move forward with that rubbish talk ?!

Get the statement right though. Who's straightening their hair ?

It's pathetic ! Embrace what you have and enjoy being brought together in something instead of making comments to separate people.

    We all have hair !

  • I'm from England and I'm black, and no offense to Americans but they make their hair seem like if it's different to everybody else's, it's ugly, they let it determine what person they are, it controls their self-esteem. This is so terrible, I didn't know this shallow side of people, until I watch all these videos on YouTube.

  • The real issue with "nappy" hair is Black Americans believing it is only theirs. I find that truly arrogant, and they should get over themselves.

  • That word, "nappy" is a racist term. If we black folks want to make kinky hair seem good, QUIT USING THE TERM. "NAPPY"!

  • Link to How to Grow Coily Hair Long on my channel.

  • I find that most of the hurt TODAY comes from the black community along with skintone. especially among the kids. nappy was taught by the black families. although i think the 70s afro was harder to keep up than hair thats relaxed...thank GOD for Miss Jessies and Kinky-Curly

  • @Ammrre Nappy is a derogatory slang term used to describe Afro hair. The very tightly coiled type of Afro hair like a grade 4 hair type. I dunno why but the issues surrounding hair with black women fascinate me even though I'm White haha:P

  • Im so elated about the natural hair movement!! Im also a proud member : )

  • i love my hair !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Can I just ask what is nappy hair? I dont understand this at all. I think nappys may meen different things, cuss a nappy is something children use when there young.

  • God created us all in our own beautiful way. Anyone can do what they want with their hair as long as you aren't trying to be someone else.

  • when i c a black woman w/ a long blonde wig on i dont think she's trying to "look white" i just think she's wanting a different look/style. i agree that just because a white woman may wear a traditionally black hairstyle u c most black woman wear she's not trying to "look black" i like different styles.i can't wear my hair long like a lot of white women.i have to keep it short so i tend to wear a lot of "black styles" im proud to b white and am not wanting to b anything im not

  • Personally I think black Americans make more of an issure out of their hair than whites. I think black Americans need to stop using these lables....so that our natural hair will be accepted as natural. But we are still perming, adding weaves, saying natural, good hair, nappy....stop these terms let black hair just be hair. Black people are deemeaning them selves with these terms.

  • I don't think those "whites" wear the hair styles because they want to be black. I think they wear it that way because of the "HAIR STYLE".

  • @WaterFor3st I agree we need to stop labeling hairtstyles as white or black no one has ownership over a hairstyle its just what you feel you look good in smh, we need to move pass the whole color thing everyone is equal

  • Whites aren't trying to 'look black' by wearing a traditionally black hairstyle. LOTS of us love the look of a black persons, well moisturised, unstyled OR groomed hair- and by groomed, I mean braided, knotted, twisted, plaited, bantus, whatevs- it looks healthy, touchable, ethnic and INTERESTING! Just cos we would like to have those styles the odd time because they're different and attractive doesnt mean that we want to swap ethnicity. That speaker should've been more choice with her words.

  • @hollyboo21 I agree.

  • Do you know where i would be able to find this?

  • I'm not prejudice but I don't like people that call themselves franco20055

  • @gibememoni

1-Straight hair we can easily with or without chemicals

2-Eyes from the lightest brown to the darkest brown, blue, green and everything in between we've got them

3- Pale skin? Really now even Caucasians w pale skin tan because they don't want it, so really please come betta! But yes we come in Alllll shades from the lightest to the darkest.

    I'm just saying :D

  • SAY IT LOUD YOUR NAPPY AND PROUD LOL im bored :)

  • wow this shows not much have change the white people stay behind there computer and cowardly sending out hate ,why do they contantly go to black site and make comment ,why so obsessed with the so called niggers ??????? because you wish you were us ,nice lips, hips, features and tan skin keep dreaming we know the real deal.

  • @cocaroots

Not all white people! I am white and those racist images literally gave me a sick feeling in my stomach. I am disgusted with racism and it offends me that you lumped all white people together (which is racism, by the way), saying we are all racist.

  • @cocaroots Stop talking so much bullshit.

  • Looks like niggers are just mad because they know white features look better ( straight hair, blue or green eyes, pale skin )

  • @gibememoni

You should be ashamed of yourself.

  • @gibememoni

yea u wish. white ppl need to feel envied in order to feel good about themselves...its sad really smh

  • nappy hair is awesome, i would be proud!!

  • Im Dominican and my hair is naturally silky and straight. I dont need perm, relaxer, weave, and none of that shit. Being half black dominican and white dominican, I can most likely pass for Afican America. I hate when people dont believe me when I say my hair is natural, real and I dont use any chemicals in it. Afican American women should just love their natural hair. As much as they relax and perm their hair, its not theirs. Puting these chemicals would destroy their real hair and then they

  • @AlwaysSoRealChick why do you care what other ppl do with their hair? its as much as mine as yours.

  • @sbkite LOL wow ignorence people these day. If you don't give a fuck then don;t comment dumbass.

We have more and mroe dumbass people these days.

  • i think nappy hair looks really nice the only thing i dont like about it is how you have to put a lot of time into caring for it

  • I Wish I Didnt Perm My hair! :(

  • Beautiful black hair. I wish the koreans and other races leave it alone its our not theirs. Just trying to make a doller

  • I am still glad that I don't have 'black' hair. What a pain in the ass.

  • @laura32976 ummm.... did you really need to come to this video just to say that

  • every message is not going to reach everyone or everyone the same way...with that being said.. What Chris Rock did is reach other individuals who other wise might have not looked in this direction... and to be honest the top rated comment should have been about this video and not someone elses film.. it doesnt make this film look any better

  • I do not have a problem with our hair being described as being like wool bcs Christ and his father's hair was described in the Bible as like WOOL.

  • Chris didn't steal the idea. A lot of people have made documentaries about this subject.

  • Comment removed

  • Chris Rock stole the the Idea from this documentaryy!

  • Every human living on planet earth was descended from an African ancestor.

  • wait i don't understand..most of the people talking about how black hair is so artistic were wearing weaves or braids

  • @AlexSheppard13 I can't speak for those in the video, BUT.....there are plenty (lots actually) of black women that have natural hair but still wear weaves, wigs, or braids. It's called protective styling. What this does is protects the ends of the hair and allows for better length retention. It also gives a little break from constantly manipulating the hair from daily styling which increases the chances of breakage. Just because you don't see an afro of some sort doesn't mean it's not natural.

  • Me, My husband, and everyone else would love to see this movie....So please someone let me know where I can get the DVD or go see the screening. I live in south FL by the way. I also want to add that I think its wonderful how so many people want to watch such a powerful documentary but we can't find it anywhere or any screenings for it. A movie like this shouldn't be hidden but put out there for all eyes (black women) to see !!! (And I don't mean bootleg...lol)

  • JESUS HAVE A HAIR LIKE WOOL.

  • I'm mad the movie is not on Netflix

  • How can I get a copy of the DVD

  • When is this coming out? I'm just learning of this entire law suit thing. I definitely would have preferred this movie coming out in theaters than Rock's which wasn't what I expected or wanted to say at all. Thank goodness I saw the dvd and didn't have to pay a dime.

  • I love this. i saw part of this one tv last year and didnt see it again until now!!! is this for sale anywhere?

  • i aint racist but i dont like nappy hair.

  • @Franco20055

no one cares what you like and dont like.

the point is that there nothing inherently bad about kinky hair. its just another type of hair, not an error that needs correcting like many have been brainwashed to think.

everyone has peferences. some like it curly, straight etc. thats why there are ~7 billion people in the world

  • beautiful soft wooly hair. i mean which real black person doesn't appreciate that?c'mon!!I love my hair.. im soooo eager for it to get very long though. OUR HAIR IS OUR CROWN A PROPER HAT OVER OUR HEAD!!im a queen :)

  • in london england nappies are diapers

  • Can someone please tell me where i can see this documentary? I tried googling the DVD - nothing.

  • I am amaze to see how beautiful and natural my races are I am proud to be part of such courageous and beautiful human being. Our ancestors loves us they fight for us and gave us what we have now, we are their future, we are their hopes so don’t let the white people brings you down we must not destroy and let them destroy what is left of our ancestors which is us.

  • This is us this is our culture this is what we are. We are beautiful, the color of our skin are exceptional our hair .I had never seen a hair as unique as a black woman hair, our lips are amazing and tasteful, our bodies, we are true femininity.

  • @deadmanshand2010 suck it your self like u did before!!!!

  • blaxks you are israelite NOT slaves stop trusting the master the white cave beast called white people .

  • every time black girls fight weave becoming..lol

  • This looks like a good documentary but i cant see it anywhwre nwar me. i live in virginia in the usa. I know at least a couple hundred ppl at my universiry tht would love to see thia. This needa to come to thw states ppl need to know thia information on the real

  • I dont care if it nappy. As long as its real. WOmen in LA dont have real hair anymore.. Where did it go???

  • Where can I see this film? and when is the next screening that is in the east? Seriously though, people want to see this documentary, I don't understand why they are trying to keep it all secretive. Let others who want to see it, see it by putting it on pay-per view or give people to opportunity to buy it....

  • finally some folk who agree with me about how weak "good hair" was. huzzzzah!!

  • You should be happy that you have hair.

  • Please order Sassy Swag Silk Hair Wraps!

  • @Liekkek your such a bad troll. it says your a man on your profile. people need lives...and employment

    seems like an interesting documentary

  • @joyfuljojo I know right. At least we got hair

  • @liekkek,wow it is so sad how ignorant people these days

  • I watched Good hair tonight. It was insulting, demenaing in some way to balck women and black men. I just wish someone with some sense would approach this issue. I will try with this documentary.

  • @utwobing Look at Aaron Ranen's documentary too on black hair

  • NOW Booking for 2011 Tour. Seattle, Toronto & UK, Netherlands on the schedule for the next tour

  • What a shame that I wasted time watching that stupid Chris Rok wanna be on DVD

My Nappy Roots looks interesting and not insulting to my intellegence

I wish this had wider release - please let me know if it is on DVD

  • I hate when people say 'nappy.' That is the biggest insult to me, because a 'nappy' is *diaper*. And what's a diaper? Something dirty and smelly and to be thrown away. We have very *curly* hair. And that's that.

  • i remember one part in chris rock's movie where there was like 3 or 4 girls who were used to getting relaxers just criticizing this other girl for going natural and they were just so ridiculous with what they said.. just ridiculous

  • The Bible says Jesus hair was like wool. And God made man in his own image.

    Love my Hair !!

  • THIS is what I've been waiting for!!!!

  • Chris Rock's "Good Hair" was ridiculous. It mocked black women. Not ALL black women pay for a weave over their rent. Not ALL of them refuse to allow significant others touch their hair. Not ALL of them relax their 3 year old's hair! It's as if he chose the most ridiculous of women. The men in the barber scene were atrocious too! The only interesting thing about the movie was the scene where the chemist showed what sodium hydroxide does to the hair. Everything else was a joke. THIS looks amazing.

  • Why didnt this get as much press as Good hair? It looks waay more interesting!

  • you cant "act black" im black i like my hair straight and i listing to rock all day. i really dont like sports. and they make fun of me but its ok

  • perms are so the fukin 90'z

  • if there are those of you that think black hair cant grow long and it all in the genes, then you obviously might not have been looking at the right youtube videos. the truth is right under your nose:ex: longhairdontcare2011, kimmaytube, rusticbeauty, sera2544, etc.

p.s.- if it werent for youtube i would have never known that my black hair could grow so long. i thank god everyday

  • @oprah7 wait you need to watch other videos to know that YOUR hair can grow that long? Have you ever tried growing it out?

  • Comment removed

  • someone send me a link to this movie

  • @RacialEquality555 i wanna watch it too but cant find it anywhere online ughhhhhh

  • This may be the wrong place to ask but I've noticed African males, and of course not just Americans, have very straight or neat hair lines?

Does that take effort or is that natural the same as a widows peak?

  • @92benno92 A lot of black men get "linings" which involves shaving the baby hair to create a new hairline. They do this because it gives off a "neat" and "fresh" look, also it makes our hairline look thicker when compared to our natural hairline. I prefer the natural hairline tho so I stopped going to barbers and learned how to do styles from youtube and other websites.

  • I would love to see this movie and find out if it was the exact same movie with deeper research done to give a broad view of the opinions surrounding nappy or good hair, but being as I cannot find it anywhere I'm tempted to think that it was just different views of the same issue to give a male as well as a female point of view.

  • Dreads are cooler than most hair styles so I don't know what your talking about

  • April 2010 ... SOLD OUT London this weekend. Standing room only and people were sill turned away. The Q & A was long, but great. Thanks for the warm welcome UK

  • @regikim I'm so happy for you! Good job!

  • is this a movie? in theatres or on DVD???

where can I see this/ get a copy??

    WHY HASNT THIS BEEN PUBLICIZED!!?

i hate the media. this should be a frontliner. all black people need to see this, whether your hair is natural or straight!

  • Cool thanks

  • FINALLY this is in London I have my tickets and I can't wait to see it...for those that don't know where it is it's showing @ 3pm Sunday April 11th @ Tricycle theatre google it :)

  • @IgnoranceIsNotCute I went to see this too in London. it was great!

  • why didn't they promote this film to theaters than Good Hair? Chris Rock wouldn't even go as deep as this documentary.

  • @hemsley12345 90% is a reach. I would say a large amount of black men have braids and locks, with a few wearing afro's and twists (like me). And there are plenty of natural women, it might be hard to see because some like to wear their hair straight by using heat, but they are still natural.

  • @hemsley12345 Nappy hair is great. Kinky, curly or coily. You need to educate yourself. Look at all the Black female gurus on youtube my dear it's only a click away.Don't be such an ignorant person.

  • chris rock stole your shine....and his shit was lame as fuck

I WANNA SEE THIS ONE....where can i get a hold of it???

  • i saw good hair and i really enjoyed it but this one seems more well put together and it talks about the history of black.. i really want to c this movie

  • if u have a perm i will talk about u

  • @haloflicker

what if you have a press LMAo but natural don't have a perm

  • wool lol

  • Wonders aloud..."If this has been out since 2006, WHY CAN"T I buy it at a video store, netflix it or Rapidshare it?"

I think that the lawsuit would have had more teeth if this was actually in consumer's hands. I've seen "Good Hair", but I'd like to see this one as well as to compare/contrast and learn from it.

  • When can I download the documentary?

  • and 0:26 her hair is particularly gorgeous

  • the racist pictures in this documentary make me cringe at the thought of such ignorence back in the day. i am ashamed that such travestys as minipulating poeple into thinking one person is superior to another, disgusting! we are all one!! but great documentary nonetheless, there is only ONE RACE PEOPLE, the human race!!!!

  • allot of black ppl self hate which is really sad.not only black ppl but also indian ppl and oriental.they bleach their skin, wear weaves just to reach da standrad set by the white man.its sad dat allot of ethnic ppl still believe in white supremacy.slavery and the colonizations really messed up with our heads.its time to change.

  • trini is dat meant 2 be a racial refrence?shame on u for bin a racist low life.allot

of white men actually copy black men style

not all black ppl look alike eitha.u need to educate yourself before u make such outragous comments.

  • trini i actually see many indians with curly/wavy hair.not all indians have straight hair.if by indians u mean the indian sub continent.not the native americans of the u.s

  • I like the clip, is there going to be another showing?

  • Where can you se this documentary if you dont live in the US?

  • I'm Irish and I have really fine red hair and I love afro hair!!! :D It's so cool and think and wooly! You can do so many things with it! If I tried to do those, my hair would probably fall out!

  • Where can I see this full documentary at?

  • Chris Rock made a mockumentary

  • Women that use relaxer and bleach and influence there children in that way are a disgrace and agents of the devil so forgive them farther for they know not what they do you gave me my lambs whool and I have a Big hat full. You also made my ansestors first in your perfect image so why would I change myself and Bow down too idols. many of these disgaceful Sambos will suffer for the simple reason that they teach self hatred and wonder why our children rage. Shame on the ungodly behaviour

  • f was sooooo eager to see this movie and when i saw it i was embarassed and dissappointed...he made couple comments that was degrading and one was.."they use a relaxer cuz they wanna be white" that was his response when a professor asked why females get a perm

  • Is this documentary ever going to be played on PBS. I would love to see it on regular television.

  • Comment removed

  • Chris Rock should have taken some notes from real film makers, like this sister, before taking on such an ambitious endeavor.

  • 1:08... wat hte hell??? lol

  • Looking at the clips they have a similar theme, but Chris's is not as serious...Chris's is a little more candid.

  • Chris Rock you COPY CAT COPY CAT this dudr stole the whole movie

  • Shame On You Chris Rock. . .

  • that doesnt make any sense what u said...there are many movies and documentaries with the same concepts but that doesnt mean one copies from the other...thats jus stupid

  • I agree, many films have the same concepts or ideas, just that its different. For Example: Barbershop and Beauty Shop, similar movie just that its the Female version of it.

  • i was reading some of the comments & everyone stepping on egg shells & didnt want to say it,thank you for having the courage to say what was done the nigga stole it

  • HOW CAN I SEE THIS MOVIE???????

  • I think C.rock borrowed the idea and changed the tone...Nappy roots has a more serious take on the issue referring back to the root of the problem (slavery), while Good Hair is a more humorous...i mean pple borrow ideas all the time and put their personal touches on them....tyler perry does it all the time lol

  • how do a nigga borrow an idea, this is the one of the problems with negros we always try to defend rich niggas when they do wrong(evil), dam it!!!! just say the he was wrong, he could helped by using his name to get it filmed, shared 50/50 credit & gave a helping hand to up lift another negro, we need love in the black community & if he had interest in loving his ppl he would of showed this to that woman

  • Alot of this has to do with the way blk men treat blk women and the ugly shit we say about them. Blk women didn't lose their minds by themselves

  • why the hell everything has to be blamed on the blk man when will blk women tak responsiblity for wht they do, blk women jack there hair because of one thing wanting to be accepted by the white man(america) so just blame yourselves for that one

  • The two documentaries look completely different when looking at the trailers. This documentary looks like it's concentrating on having pride in natural hair and the history of whites insulting our hair texture while Chris Rock's looks like it's exposing the shame African Americans have about nappy hair and the extents we'll go to just to get rid of it.

  • Chris Rock did not steal this idea. This movie is discussing the origin of african american hair, going way back to slavery and the plantation days. Chris Rock is talking about the origin of WEAVE and african americans not trying to be nappy, unless it is time for a retouch.

  • this movie looks a lot more informative and tasteful than chris rock's movie imo.

  • this film still wont teach blacks how to behave in public!

  • I would pay to see This movie NOT chris, chris seem like he sold us out.

  • so to be proud to be a proud black woman I have to wear my hair nappy or in dreads? fuck that mess...

  • you obviously are missing the point.

  • i agree prettynicca! lol I like the message of Chris' movie better (internal beauty is more important that outer) but I do believe he was "inspired" by this movie. aka he ripped it off

  • i think the message is that blk women want to be accepted, dont consider themselves beautiful with out looking like white women

  • technically they want to look Indian, not white. Indian hair is the most sought after in the world, and no black woman wants their hair thin/nearly bald like a white persons.

I think its wrong just calling out one race, when every race tries to change their appearance. white people tan & dye their hair blonde all the time but what you get from both movies is that only black women alter themselves and feel bad about themselves. I could find other ways to spend my time than watch either of these

  • jus cause E indain hair is most sought after dont mean they want to look like them, not long ago yak hair was popular so did blk women want to look like a yak "no",calling out that race is cause they are the ruling power they set the standards for beauty, thats Y blk women bleach there skin & destroy there hair to be accepted along wit alot of other things we as color people do to be accepted, not hard to understand,i dont no chris R seems funny enough to watch

  • lol @ the yak thing..i guess not

i guess i just don't agree with that because i don't personally believe they set the standards for beauty but that doesn't mean they really don't. although its very f*cked up its true

  • indian hair is straight like white people's. where do you see bald white women.

  • you only see white men with baldness. and you can't really say anything about that because black men tend be bald more of the time. not because they are balding but because they want to get rid of those pubes on their head. so if a black man is balding or not it makes not difference because they tend to shave their hair down.

  • Your words speak volumes about how correct both of these films are on the negative mind effects being nappy have on your demented selfhating self.

  • Wow!!!! I don't know what 2 say.

  • f*ck outta here. chris movie at least interesting. this sh*t look yock!

  • YES... Chris Rock's story behind his reason for his film has changed at least three times and I think he COPIED. Shame on him!

  • fuk dis movie it look boring as hell i not fixin 2 waste me cheddar on it i rather see chris's nah lol

  • and also i think its all about variety when it comes to hair,i never once in my life was made to believe that "nappy" wasnt a good thing, but sometimes i feel like braids one day and an afro the next day or straight one day or a lace front wig the next day,i just like different styles and there is nothing wrong with that,I LOVE MY HAIR,to quote tupac,"

FU*K THE WORLD IF THEY CAN'T ADJUST

  • I saw chris's movie over the weekend and it was interesting but to be honest only a hand full of people were in the theaters so don't think that he got paid millions because he didn't,I would love to see her point of view as well

  • THIS IS WAAAAAAYYY BETTTER THAN CHRIS ROCKS MOVIE!!!!!! This director obviously has a lot o finformation and to teach and show and does it well through all perspectives. She should still release this. I want to see it! And Chris should pay her!

  • This movie seems more informative. It seems like it gets to the point behind SOME women's choices for their hairstyles (natural or fake). I do agree that Chris Rock's story behind his reason for his film has changed but.... it changed three times. First: He said his daughter asked why she didn't have good hair. Second: He over heard his daughter raving about her white friends hair. Third: he was impressed by a bronner bros show 17 yrs ago and wanted to do a movie. Chris make up your mind!

  • if he did use some of her material he could at least credit her for it!
