I have to say, i like it very much to listen to bagpipers and i hope that i can come 1 day to the Military Tattoo in Edinburugh cos i love that music very very much ! And when i have the time i'm going every year to the Last Post in Ypres (Belgium) there they play also good music to not forget the fallen Soldiers of World War I and II
Soldiers fallen in these Wars and in Others on Earth R.I.P. we think at you every day
@CornSnakeFanatic Yes, Its called a "walk away," with a band playing at the grave site one piper slowly walks off to a distance while the band playes on at un-covered-down ranks. That means they leave the spot that lone piper left, open. The "walk away" symbolizes the soul walking away to heaven, while we play on, on earth.
i think it sounds just wonderful, i dont care about what notes he missed or any of that, its just a beautiful song to be played, and even more beautiful at a funeral...absolutely the most emotional song to ever hear at a funeral
Well I listened to it more than once. I dont care for arrogance and narrow minded people. This is not a piper competition. Someone died. Cant you show some respect and open your mind? This piper was probably given 24 hours notice and hadnt played in months. Did he miss notes? yes but its at a funeral. Did you offer to play? Do you understand Scottish Culture? I didnt think so.
I don't mean to sound narrow minded but, they are correct. We Scotts don't mince words, and Piobraidh (Slow aires and Lament) music has a lot of meaning for us. We believe that the soul stands next to the body, until the body is laid to rest, those final aires are what the soul hears as he/she is walking off in to the beyond. Normally you'll hear the pipers practicing and tuning for a 1/2 to an hour befor hand, so when they play the Piobraidh, they are spot on!
I'll tell you a good website to go to for pretty much any question/answere for bagpipes that any piper could possibly have. It won't let me post an email address here but if you go to google and type andrew bagpipe and go to your first link, it should bring you to an excellent website by a guy named Andrew Lenz. Hope this is helpful and again, my apologies for the first comment as it was not my intent to be offensive:)
Oh mam, I didn't mean it offensively, I meant it in a constructive way:) Funerals can be very nerve racking! Especially when it's someone that you knew and loved. Some things to remember when playing at a funeral: arrive 60-90 minutes early and SLOWLY allow your pipes to adjust to the outside temperature(open pipe case one or two inches every 15 minutes and they will adjust without potential damaging), then tune them up before everybody else arrives.
Well, it was January and cold and it was a friend's funeral so it was a bit emotional. I don't think his deceased friend cared that he was crowing or off beat or wavering. Maybe it was the video taker's camera and the train in the background too. I suppose this was supposed to be a constructive comment but I am the pipersWIFE and I can be very protective of the piper! Youtube is just for fun for us, not a grading system. He is a for personal fun piper, not competition.
not to be mean or anything but you cant expect everyone to not criticize the video. People are going to voice their opinions about what they want. Oh btw I think it was an great performance
