Peter Lorre? Hot? Whattttttttt? I think he was a little handsome, a lot more scary, but I would not describe him as hot. I will try to look at him o0bjectively to see what you see..
I have the "colorized" version of this movie, it is great.
Some people complain about colorized movies, what they don't realise is that the young people refuse to watch b/w movies, so that in time these movies will be lost forever
@dustygjc I agree that sometimes colorization might be necessary to get some kids interested. Still on the other hand, kids shouldn't be rewarded for being closed minded. ;)
Heavens to Murgatroid! THANKS for posting! Very interesting...though I've never been a big fan of colorization of black & white films. They colors never look real & to me always seem to have a "washed out" look. Of course, a person can always turn the color button off on their TV & watch it in the original black & white.
So, I understand from the logo in the upper corner that Turner Classic Movies owns this film...but they aren't selling it on their Website, in either color or black and white. eBay doesn't have it...where can I get it--anyone? I can't watch these squee-inducing, tantalizing clips of Peter Lorre and have someone tell me that's all I can get...
@DeadmansWoman: lol, just today, cause I have to move soon, I unearthed a LIFE mag of 1944, yeah THE Life mag, the one with the pics @ the Finlandia Baths, with Bogie etc.... and Peter in the nude (almost).... it's like my own personal porn mag lol.... I blush everytime I leaf through it lol.... he's soooo hot I can't believe the pix weren't censored back then lol... xD
WE've got the B&W, and it's nice to see this colorized. What gets me is that the films that were MEANT to be shot in color by their studios (THEM! and DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL) have never been colorized. BTW, each of these 2 films had their budgets cut just prior to shooting to save the studio cash. A shame, really. At the very least - there should be two versions... and I'd give anything to see THINGS TO COME colorized!!
It is nice to see what it would look like in color, but yet , that old Hollywood magic is lost. Black and white made the movie like a dream, and now, with color, it's been normalized.
Damn right... I have a collage mate who says that Peter Lorre had too much forehead... so he was ugly.. I shut him up... haha of course.. he was a boy who instead of watching quality films.. he goes to see movies like watchmen and some similar ones...
Are you serious!!!! Oh well he's a guy, I suppose he doesn't see what we girls see, LOL! Same here, when my friends first saw him they said he looked retarded because of his pastey white eyes! They also said Karloff's eyebrows looked like caterpillers and Lugosi had a big nose, I told them off too! Gawd I think they've been over exposed to 21st centruary movies too, so your not alone there! LOL
You are right.. boy don´t see what we girls see.. of course than boy didn´t know anything about Lorre.. but he just asked me about some screename I had on msn (something about Lorraine.. I don´t remember) and I told him that my screenname was about Peter Lorre .. that´s when he said he was ugly with too much forehead... stupid stupid stupid... lol
I suppose he can't see the awesomeness, I pity him soo much! He should be like coveting him or something, too bad all guys don't look something like him that'd be heaven, LOL! Lorraine I never thought of that, that's really keen, man I totally dibs that for any future children I ever have, LOL!

@2441883 I think he could be quite good looking. And I rarely thought he was all that scary, that was just the image he got stuck with.

Joan Lorring has one of the most beautiful noses of any Hollywood actress EVER.

I agree, the B&W gives a certain majesty to older movies, a mysteriousness.
As Ebert said, "B&W has a timelessness and a purity to it that color doesn't."

I <3 him Black and White, I <3 him in colour, there's just no hating this guy! Thanks Nordenwald--for being kind enough to share this rarity!

True, girls are sometimes more forgiving than boys when it comes to our perceptions of attractiveness. :)
