What do you mean by "couldn't even handle in-game audio"??
ALL games had 'audio' which is sound fx and/or music...with just ONE sound channel you get 1 channel of "in-game" audio. I dont understand what you mean.
If anything it was the limited MEMORY that was shared by the graphics AND
Sound chip, but even so with Paula it could load the audio and loop till the next part effieciently.
Are you being serious?? The SNES had awful sound and most of it was synthesized. On paper it's better, but in realitty the audio was always a collection of pips bleeps and white noise. Half the audio controller was straght from the C64 and the complexity of actually controlling the samples in the first place meant the music was basic and never fully utilised the hardware. Listen to this version of CF then go and listen to the original Amiga version. No synthsizers, just 8bit samples

@melvoin True. Still, the Amiga was quite an amazing computer, and it might only have 4 channels, but at least I made music with it, its a shame the SNES SPC700 was never open to experimentation... =P
I saw a friend play this on the PC a long time ago, stuck on the stage "Jeep Jump". I never found out the name of the game, and it bugged me for years until I found the name of the game on TVTropes and looked up screenshots.
i have this on the atari jag good game the snes version is an ok port but the music is better on the jag but the snes music own the mega drive version LOL
I had the SNES version. I got CF as soon as it came out in 1994 (i think?!). I clocked it! It WAS very hard. Mind you I was 12 and probably at the peak of my game playing skills!! Games made you work bloody hard back then. The final levels took place in the enemies underground base and it was lethal!
when u press fire button "b"hold it and press move button "A" then u throw grenades....and when u press start u can switch grenades, rocket launcher and split ur soldiers !!what u mean whit rpg ??
this game is a still a fucking great awesome game a played as a kid on pc version....^^!!But somewhone knews on SNES version how many missions exists and u cant save after or beetween the missions ??thx for answer
Excellent game, I downloaded the SNES emulator version to play it again and I'm ready to confess on here that I've been using the 'Save State' option to save my progres and keep my troops alive. Jools & Jops are f'kn 4 star generals by now. Super Smashing 'Nam tastic!
is there any one out there whos done this game to the end? iv'e been a hardcore nintendo gamer for over a decade, but this one has my number, i just can't beat it.
Haha I've uploaded a vid of it too, I really hate it when Jools or Jops die as well :( I've kept them til near the end sometimes. It's so irritating when one of them dies.
My dad and brother had this on the Amiga when I was small, and would joyfully watch them for hours on end, especially when it took them weeks to get past Mission 13 :P
Uggg, I hated the Final Fantasy games, couldn't believe it when the craze was renewed on the PS1.
I've got addicted to cannon fodder again, just up to Mission 7 - the third phase is really frustrating. Lol can't wait for Mission 10 + where the enemies have tanks and turrets, if I think this is hard, what's that gona be like.
Just dug the old SNES out for a game - It does actually save how many men you lost (must be a different code for each man dead) but not their ranks or how many of the enemy you've killed.
Also It doesn't have the cool "War's never been so much fun..." song at the beginning LOL
Game play and Graphic wise, more or less the same as the Amiga though (the Amiga's graphics possibly, slightly sharper).
My main problem with the SNES version is the load/save system - it's just an enter password for each mission set up, and doesn't actually save anything at all (and the SNES could do this with other games)so you can't get your game back exactly as you left it.
Never had MP so couldn't try the mouse, but yeah, I expect that would be better than the C-pad
Loved this game - sadly I only have the Snes version myself now, as my Amiga is long knackered. Surprisingly though, it has all the levels - usually with Snes conversions they would half the game. It is harder to control with the C-pad though.
Took me two years to finish the Amiga version, and I never did quite manage to do CF2.

@melvoin Yes but the Amiga was a much older machine than the SNES so it would be an unfair comparison if they were set up against each other.

it sounds like all the enemies are shouting "WAR!" when they get killed.

You might wanna check my video "Cannon Fodder Savegame Edit (DOS)", it explains how to skip missions and how to change your amount of recruits left.

I beat the Amiga version, in part due to the guides in Amiga Power magazine.
Not one of your team will ever survive beyond mission 8.2 without savestates.

Lol or maybe cos the SNES can't do any sound/music with voices ;)
But yeah, your right, Nintendo were picky - completely removing the Nazi element from Wolfenstein for instance, which made the whole plot stupid.
