I'm a Christian but I'm also a Science Buff. I've watched all the Science documentaries and all the great PBS stuff like "Cosmos" with Carl Sagan. I've never had a problem reconciling the Creation Story from Genesis with Scientific discoveries and theories about Evolution and the Big Bang (basically all the discoveries regarding our origins). I just figure that if God wanted to create using a "Big Bang" and Evolution, etc. Why limit Him. Some Fundamentalists make it hard on the rest of us.

Wasn't asking you to explain how the universe was created, I was asking "From where did God come". If you say he existed for ever, then it is much less of a leap of faith to just claim that the universe has existed forever. If you say that he spontaneously appeared, then to, you must extend this possibility to the universe. God is an extra step added to any explanation of the Universe- extra and arbitrary step.

The Church in Europe at that time was basically like a large postal service or influence network across many local, distinct cultures. Western Man will do anything, ANYTHING to cleanse himself of the stink of "moral bankruptcy". When Science is used to manipulate and deliberately destroy a man´s soul...that´s the last straw. I know full well what moves people to action. Part of the reason I don't like religion. Neutrality is not a virtue, but neither is it a cancer. It provides information that can make a world of difference in life. The biggest being medicine. It also promotes thinking, and questioning, something that is not encouraged by religion.

Then you understand why science´s influence on Western Man has waxed and waned over the centuries, right? If Science is to survive, its "neutrality" must change. Security and safety in the face of countless societal unpheavels will trump the need to understand atoms, quarks, cosmology, even medicine every time. So I think it is precisely that kind of arrogance that needs to change. Science and its unbridled "hubris" towards Christianity will be its demise. In other words Science needs to "back off".

If science does back off it means the slowly evangelizing of America. That would be a sad age, because America would then fall from a leader in science to the back of the pack, and with their love for war mongering might wage wars against less than evangelical nations. There is still hope; just look at the ID controversy. The scientist spoke up, and the ID proponents realized they could not stand up to the evidence supporting evolution, especially with an untestable, unobservable, unpredictable, and undetectable supernatural force (which needs its own explanation) as their only argument. Scientists noted a simple notion: you cannot do science already knowing the answer. ID lost. Science won.

Exactly. Sagan got his jabs in against religion, but he wsn't known as a famous atheist. Dawkins spends too much time disproving the foolish, rather than teaching truths.
