Haha I think its hilarious to see this video cause I personally know this band my brother in law was there old guitarist :) sucks hes not in this video though
@Danixarb Aaron Weiss's parents are both Sufi converts which is an off shoot of Islam. He says it's parables were inspirations for a lot of the songs in this album. Pretty interesting stuff.
Saw these guys last night opening for Alkaline Trio in Asheville, I didn't know who they were, but I will now, I love the guys voice and his stage presence is awesome.
@jelloearl Aaron is singing, his brother Mike is the guitarist, Ricky is playing the drums, and Greg is the bassist. If you wanna know anything else let me know homie. I'll fill you in. Welcome to the wonderful world of mewithoutYou!
Well, we'd better keep our goods away from our foxes of self-destroying-wishes [or our desires to sin] and our crows of bragging, or we might found ourselves without any cupcakes. :O
Luckily, we CAN live without 'em. :)
Your poems of wisdom, my good Aaron, what a paradise they bring! ♥
Uhm this album is based on Islamic sufi poetry from a Sri Lanka saint... They just wrote music for this. Sufi mom Jew dad Christian brothers who may be heading to Universalists.
@ShankeyMcstab no. You talkin' about Mevlana-Rumi- and The Fox, The Crow And The Cookie a story from his 'Mesnevi' book. and He was born in Afghanistan
@Sinzblade They're not "Christian", per-say, but they use plenty of allusion and spirituality in their lyrics. The lyrics in this song are actually derived from one of Aesop's Fables. It is a warning against flattery, as the Fox played on the Crow's ego in order to obtain what he wanted.
@Sinzblade They are a super Christian band, that's obvious, so don't listen to the others who say they're not. The band name is written "mewithYou" You is capitalized because it refers to God and many of his songs deal with sin therefore it's a phrase in which to interpret what its like to be human without God.
This song is very hard to decipher. I love this band because the lyrics are always so deep and thought provoking, such great people.
um, you're completely wrong. they are not super christian. Aaron and his brother michael are actually jewish o.o Due to the Christian imagery in some of Aaron Weiss' lyrics, they have been categorized as a Christian band, although in an interview, Aaron Weiss has stated he doesn't think they are a Christian band. Their lyrics reflect a personal relationship with God, and are not evangelistic. Other lyrical themes explored include suffering and self-doubt.
@whodaFCKdisbe So? I didn't say they were a worship band, they're Christian. And no, they're not Jewish in religion, they believe in the Biblical Christian practice. I don't think you're in any position to tell me I'm wrong when I do know this for a fact. Ever heard of La Dispute? Another christian band that isn't worship music. You're stereotyping a religion as a music genre. Bands like these talk about real human emotions and problems, just cause they're Christian doesn't mean they can't hurt.
@musicismyfavorite777 "The Weiss brothers are of Jewish descent and their songs use Jewish, Muslim and Christian imagery to explore spiritual themes. The Weiss brothers were raised in a Sufi Muslim household—their mother had converted from the Episcopal church, and their father from Judaism. Due to the Christian imagery in some of Aaron Weiss' lyrics, they have been categorized as a Christian band ..."
This continues but there's a character limit and I don't want to rant.
This song is so different from the things I usually listen to, yet I love it. His voice is so unique. I find it so intriguing how each time I listen to it I hear a new instrument or beat.
i generally listen to electronic music, but can most defiantly judge good music when i hear it, i usually hate stuff like this...but i can honestly say this is a great song. great actually doesn't describe it just enough.
Its not that theyre new music isint good I just wish they stuck to their roots in A->B life I would have never guessed that they would write something like this
I feel like a dick because this music is amazing. But I have an immediate biased against "Christian Rock," because I am so ready for the Christian sentiments to be jammed down my throat. This shouldn't be a problem, but it is. gaaaaah.
@hitch23213 For one... MewithoutYou is not a christian band.Aaron sings about what HE believes and HE sings about HIS experiences. This is one of the many reasons i love mewithoutYou so much. Aaron Weiss is such and inspirational person to me, the entire band is.Aaron can incorporate somthing about God into nearly every song, and they all (everysing one it seems) ends on a great note both lyrically and instrumentally. His great love and passion for God is the best in my opinion. All that can fit.
@Jmods360 if he sings about what he believes, and he believes in God, and sings about God in most of his songs, I fail to see how they aren't a religious band. I digress, I don't really like arguing. I just wanted some consolidation. And they are extremely good, and in the past two days I've listened to "Brother, Sister" multiple times. So I guess i'm kind of getting over it, but it is a hard pill to swallow. I don't like music and religion mixed.
@hitch23213 I see your point. can you not see mine? The lable "Christian Rock" is steriotypically associated with bands that focus on the current christians. I have never heard of an athiests (for example) that listens to anything related to Christianity, but there are plenty that listen to mewithoutYou. mewithoutYou can be interpreted in any way the listener wishes. mewithoutYou being a guy without a girl...shallow enough.Or it can go deeper, the "girl" being God. I am not trying to force......
@hitch23213 ... any of my beliefs on you (if thats how it came across, i tried super hard not to make it some sort of fight about whos beliefs are right) whats so wrong with religion and music mixed? Music is generally a way of expressing a strong emotion... Whats so wrong with someone singing about there number one love, God?
its like Taylor Swirft or Justin Beiber singing about their "love" (though just beiber & taylor swifts "loves" are pretty much fake) whats so different?
@hitch23213 I agree. But I also agree with Jmods. both of you have excellent points, I don't like the fact that they're a 'christian rock' band, because I don't condone religion and I'm honestly jealous of blind faith, I question everything, and so have no faith left. And yet, I agree that people should be allowed to sing about what they love. Both of you are excellent debators and convinced me in both of your arguments. :) thanks to you both for teaching me something today.
@minasmorath so I just start to listen to them, and personally i love the sound, but can you tell me like what kind of music they played? or any song? :)
i like their old style and new about the same. i think that it wouldnt really hurt their sound if they mixed a couple of these songs with their old ones. in my opinion it would actually give their albums more diversity and provide different dynamics for the listener
While the rest of the music on the radio has gone to Hell, bands like this continue to put work in and come out with catchy tunes, clever lyrics, and never sellout. One of the best songs I know of.
oh my gosh. for some reason, i couldn't remember the name of this song...or who sang it...or any lyrics. all i had to go off of was that there was a fox and a baker. it's a long a story, but it took me about 45 minutes to track this baby down. hahahaha and I freaking love mewithoutyou! i don't know what happened to my mental music map. LOVE THIS SONG/VIDEO.
OMG! I love this song, and this video, and I've been a HUGE fan. I have everything since "I Never Said That I Was Brave", and I appreciate everything they've done and every different style. I look at it this way : I am extremely musically versatile and they've just converted from one style that I love, to another style that I love just about as much. Works for me! They're musically talented and Aaron writes amazingly, that's all that matters.
Dear god, what happened to this band? Where is the aggresive and awesome mewithoutYou from "A to B: life" and Catch for us the foxes? slopnit
well be at ease little brother, this is the same teneur, goes the same place and i do hope comes from 'catch us the little foxes,' _for they destroy the vine.
It is a message to all about unclean birds strawbewii Friggin' Frogg a pun can be better than phariseic judgment, _using those words that should be obvious
well be at ease little brother, this is the same tenor goes the same place and i do hope comes from there 'catch us the little foxes,' _for they destroy the vine. It is a message to all about unclean birds and
"Every rook and jay and corvidae's
Been ravin' about me too"
Best. Pun. Ever. From God's Heart in Jesus Always
Makes me laugh that people all assume that MeWithoutYou are a Christian band, Aaron has said before in interviews that they are not a Christian band: ''although in interview, A. Weiss has stated he doesn't think they are a Christian band.[4] Their lyrics reflect a personal relationship with God, and are not evangelistic.''
@hotlittledago not a christian band, a spiritual band with more muslim roots as he was raised by his Sufi Muslim mom and his Jewish dad. Aaron claims no one religion as of right now as well saying there is no one way to god
No he doesn't. Way to pick and choose the quote, Fox News. After your part he goes on to say
"If you really want to just try to follow a path to God, I don't believe you need anything beyond [Jesus Christ], but it's just the idea that you're fixed on the only way and that everybody else is just completely misguided... that is a sort of obtuse attitude that can hurt your own spirit."
@Chris1218218 His brother said that, Mike. Also Muslims believe all you need is a faith in Jesus, as Mohammed says "I am Jesus" and especially sufi muslims revere him as being ultimately detached from all save God
haha i like how people have to classify music before that can decide if they like it or not. Like the guy below me, who said it's not dark enough and more like panic at the disco pop. silly silly man, appreciate music for what it is you stupidface
@Nukleurfire "Goodbye, I!" and "A Stick, a Carrot & String" all have a nice sugar coating and the lyrics are full of imagery. A nice departure from their old stuff, but that's not to say their old stuff was lacking in imagery.
it cannot be, the genius of mewithoutYou's previous albums, which were dark, brooding, and high-energy, has turned into a panic at the disco-esque folk-pop crust.
Love this song...it reminds me of ilomilo!

I guess I could expect this kind of song from English teachers... but wow... what a change from what I remember.

@hotlittledago not a christian band, a spiritual band with more muslim roots as he was raised by his Sufi Muslim mom and his Jewish dad. Aaron claims no one religion as of right now as well saying there is no one way to god

@ShankeyMcstab
Chris1218218 11 months ago
@Chris1218218 His brother said that, Mike. Also Muslims believe all you need is a faith in Jesus, as Mohammed says "I am Jesus" and especially sufi muslims revere him as being ultimately detached from all save God

It's not the mix from off the album, but I like it anyway.
mahound9 11 months ago
why is the mix so weird? all of the string & brass instruments are so loud...

haha i like how people have to classify music before that can decide if they like it or not. Like the guy below me, who said it's not dark enough and more like panic at the disco pop. silly silly man, appreciate music for what it is you stupidface
lnsouciance 1 year ago
has mewithoutyou done any other songs like this?
Nukleurfire 1 year ago
@Nukleurfire "Goodbye, I!" and "A Stick, a Carrot & String" all have a nice sugar coating and the lyrics are full of imagery. A nice departure from their old stuff, but that's not to say their old stuff was lacking in imagery.
SeanP87 1 year ago
it cannot be, the genius of mewithoutYou's previous albums, which were dark, brooding, and high-energy, has turned into a panic at the disco-esque folk-pop crust.
