@SteeleTate I took my turtle at work, as my work place is already a tourist park, one of a frnd robbed my baby turtle, i was crying my boss bought a RES turtle bigger than the one i had, my baby turtle health was good n i thought it is blind but it was not, it was my mistake to bring it a work. i'll have to look for my baby turtle. im very sad, i should never bring it. but i like my new big RES too.
Hey Steeltate in stead of getting the cooter (couldn't find one) I got a Mississippi map any care tips and do you think he'll be fine with my red eared slider?
Hey I'm a big fan of your vids I have a 3 month old baby R.E.S and I need some help first of all one question did you buy that tank in a kit if so I have the same one and I started out by trying to feed him outside his tank in Tupperware with some shallow water and he would not eat so I fed him in his tank and I handle him daily and he is very shy would feeding him outside the tank help? P.S what type of turtle is Jack thanks
@flightlevelerjax ~ I did get mine out of a kit. It helps a lot! I had the same problem with Clyde.:( You should probably get him a friend. Jack is a Hieroglyphic River Cooter! Thanks!
hey....... My turtle has is not eating on both water or land... i keep food in front of him but still just walks away... plzzz i want to know, he has not eaten for 2 days i think plzz tell me
@MegaMoaiz ~ If he is an aquatic turtle always feed it in water! You should try feeding him out of his habitat, and put him in a tupperware like i use in a couple of my videos. Try others foods like krill, romaine, or spinach. Thanks!
I have red ear slider about 2 inches and I feed him reptoMin baby but he doesn't eat I had him for one month and all he does is bask and sleep do u know wats wrong with him
@awesomeSoccergirl457 its because hes getting used to the tank.......also there just babys they dont eat alot. they feed them before they ship them to you and they get a little scared from that to. You have to let it were of. but it will eat eventually
Whoa whoa whoa, um.. they even had shell rot in this video too. Dude, you need to do something asap and stop holding off and being careless. The newest video you made the Map has the worst shell rot I've ever seen.. I can't believe you let it get that severe.
i need help, my painted turtle is a baby but is hibernating, he doesnt eat or go in the water, he stays on his rock, should i give him a light or not and does he need water to bask,he is with a baby RES and plz help
@superdwaynepaul put it in the water and go away for a few mins, if it isn't gone yet, try using live food like worms untill he is big enough to swallow reptomin pellets
or mix it with some meat(like stick it on or in the meat)
@freakBucketz try live food, maybe he doesn't know the food u give him is food, until it moves, that helped for my turtles :) now they're some hungry basterds! have fun!great pets
hey how do i teach my turtle to eat outside their tank in their little bowl? i have 2 great fitlers but because their tank is new i dont have any gravel or rocks yet so the food looks all nasty when its in the water or when it falls to the bottom. but they refuse to eat outside of it!
your turtles may eat those thin plans you have in there turtles will eat anything and they could get sick from it try to use thick plastic plants they cant eat them

do i have to keep it in the big tank? because i have two of them and i have smaller tank than that :D should i buy bigger one? i just bought them!! and i don't really know about turtle
@wildlife455 ~ That is so funny and pretty cool too. What is the chance of 2 people both having Eastern Painted Turtles named "Jasper"? So how long have you had your Jasper and do you have other turtles?
@alvaro7570 ~ Post a video of your turtle showing his sides, top and bottom and I will try to tell you what breed of turtle you have. Was it a gift and is that why you do not know? Have you compared him to other turtles in videos or pictures, to form some type of opinion of what type of turtle you might own?
@orange8723 ~ Yes, you must use a proper UVA/UVB and heat lamp! Turtles regulate their temperature by using their environment and basking for warmth. Pet turtles must have a basking platform and proper lighting available in their tank. This allows your turtle to completely dry themselves daily and is needed not only for warmth, but also for proper bone and shell development. A turtle must maintain an internal body temperature between 63 to 73 °F.
@viLjiNz ~ Take your turtles and some of the water from your tank and place them into something much smaller. Put in some food pellets (2 different types may be good, plus count the number of pellets you put in) and some romaine lettuce and leave the room for 15 minutes. When you come back count to see if they have eaten anything and look at the lettuce for obvious signs that they have been eating. If they are baby turtles, you need to be using baby turtle food of course.
@ciukcia98 ~ Both foods are great and even other types of food, plus romaine lettuce, turkey meat, meal worms etc is good to consider too. Feeding your turtles a variety of different foods, on different days, is the most ideal approach.
Thanks for watching and your question, let me know if you you need any additional assistance and please subscribe! ;~)
@ciukcia98 ~ This may come as a surprise to many people but turtles love to eat vegetation. They can be fed salad greens, herbs such as parsley and basil, cabbage, green beans, broccoli, and carrots. A turtle will even eat fruit and may enjoy eating berries and even bananas. Even though turtles appear to have a slow metabolism, growing baby turtles need to be fed quite frequently and should be feed once or twice a day. Of course turtles are carnivorous and will eat little pieces of fish and meat
@SteeleTate and also as i know carrots increase they're coloration. you as far i as i know you should feed them not more than every other day, becouse they may get to many vitamins at a time, and that would not be good for turtles health.
@ciukcia98 ~ No matter what, food pellets are ideal and designed to feed and nourish turtles properly. However, feeding turtles a variety of foods is a good choice, but that really means more then 1 type of pellets. Romanie lettuce can be provided to pet turtles often, while special items like fruits and vegetables should be just that, "special treats" and not considered a feeding staple or the main course.
@ClarkHeyEdit ~ I would not put an expensive fish in the same tank as your turtles. It will work for a while, but at some point your fish will become turtle food. Of course the smaller the turtle, the longer the fish will last. I have goldfish in my turtle tank because they are hearty and easy to care for, plus add lots of color, action and enhance the enviornment. But since they only cost $.18 I don't care that they are on the future dinner menu.
@TheoryPictur3s ~ I'm thinking NOT, but thanks for asking. I guess I should be flattered even though you are twice my age, ewwwwww! Plus I should mention that my dad is 6'3", played rugby and is very protective of me and my 3 sisters! lol ;~)
did u say ur turtles name was clyde? kuz my turtles name iz clyde!!!! mi sis. turtles name is Mr.grumpy gills....y if he no hav gills? idk kuz hiz face luks grumpy?.....and if u hav small turtle could u put em in a tank full of water? and evry time I record clyde he swims away....not to mention mi sis dropped him while i was cleaning his lil cage
Don't forget you should offer them as much as they can in 15 minutes. I'm just trying to help. But I would try to offer a few more. Maybe 5 reptomin and 5 zoomed. If they don't eat it in the 15 then take it out. I wouldnt worry about making them fat. It takes more than 5 times what I said to make them fat, Again just trying to help you out not yelling or correcting you.
Another thing, I'm getting a filter soon and I'm thinking about acquiring a pair of regular goldfish. What changes should I make to welcome them into the tank? Anything specific? Thanks.
@DewleafWolf - Goldfish are easy and their food is good for turtles. Get some cheap feeder goldfish and just set the whole bag into your tank for 30 minutes so the water temp adjusts slowly. After 30 minutes, open the bag and turn it on its side so they can swim out. Feed them a pinch of food once a day and you're set. You could also add a bottom feeder like a cory catfish or snail, which also help clean the tank and expand your enviornment. The turtles may eat the fish someday so cheap is good.
How big does a Heiroglyphic River Cooter get?? And should I me being a begginer with turtles, get a Mississippi Map or a Heiroglyphic River cooter turtle??
@Ktfunsizednarly -- The Hieroglyphic River Cooter turtles can be expected to range from 5-13 inches in length when they reach maturity. Like many aquatic turtles, the females are typically bigger than the males.
Both the River Cooter and Mississippi Map turtles are good choices for a beginner and both have a very unique appearience.
I plan to buy a bigger tank with heat uv lamp for the turtle, but my son also like to have some fishes inside too. My two turtles is very small, can I put some bigger fishes inside the tank with my two little turtles? I want to put fishes and turtles together in one big tank, is it ok, I don't want the turtles to eat them, it is not food for them!
@Mileyfans2010 - You can put fish in the tank, but it's only natural for your turtles to eat or bite them as they get larger. If you start with fish right away while your turtles are small/young there is a chance they will get used to the fish and never harm them, but I doubt it long term. It's nice to have fish the the tank, so go buy some larger goldfish which are hearty and cheap. Their bright color is a nice contrast and the goldfish food is good for, plus adds variety to your turtle's diet.
@Mileyfans2010 -- That is great news and I'm glad my information was able to help you. Thanks for watching my videos and sending your questions. Please subscribe to my channel and let's stay in touch.
Thank you so much for your information, I will try it today. I see that you put two little piece of food and one pellets. What is that two little piece of food that you put in? I bought a ReptoMin for small Aquatic turtles, is that the right food? Do I need a heated lamp too? How much of water that I should put into the tank?
@Mileyfans2010 - Reptomin Baby and Zoo Med's Hatchling Aquatic Food are both good choices for baby turtles, and romaine lettuce. Feeding your turtles a variety, changing each day, is smart and best for their health. You MUST have a heating lamp and a UVA/B bulb so that your turtles can bask. Pet turtles must have a basking platform available in their tank. This allows your turtle to completely dry themselves daily and is needed not only for warmth, but also for proper bone and shell development.
@Mileyfans2010 -- Take your turtles and some of the water from your tank and place them into something much smaller.
@Ktfunsizednarly -- I would try buying a turtle at a locally own pet store myself and not a chain store, because if they do not sell aquatic turtles, they may be able to refer you to a local breeder. You can also attend any reptile show that would be held in your area, where breeders will be for sure. Just search for "reptile show" with your city or state in google. As far as the price, you should be able to buy a map turtle for around $25.
Also one other question.. Do you have to feed mississippi map turtles meat? are there pellets with protein in them because I didn't see you feed them meat in the video???
@Ktfunsizednarly - My turtles are just babies so I have not given them any meat. I use a variety of floating pellet foods and romaine lettuce, changing what I feed them day to day. They also eat some of the goldfish food, which seems to be very beneficial for their coloring. Of course the goldfish are there for the taking and I assume they will become turtle food some day. Although, they may become comfortable with fish in the tank and never eat them, unless it's just an instinct no matter what.
@Ktfunsizednarly - As shown in my video, I feed my turtles outside of the tank giving them about 10 to 15 minutes to eat, and feed the fish while the turtles are out. If I feed the fish while the turtles are in the tank they do eat some of the fish food, but that is not a problem and is actually good for the turtles. I purchase 90% of everything I need from a locally owned pet store and only go to a chain store for a few things, plus I purchased my turtles from breeders. Thanks for watching!
HAha thanks for the advice, i try to feed them outside, but like. when i take em out and put them, in the different container, they dont eat... like they eat when ever they want...
and cant keep them in there for ever.... Not only tht but i rarely have time to take them out like that.. so i just feed them in the tank.. :( makes the water dirty... im planning on getting a mississippi map turtle i want one soo bad.
@N0VAlyfe69 -- That will change over time and your turtles will start to want you. If you watch my videos, you'll notice that when my Eastern Painted Turtle sees me, he comes to the front of the aquarium and almost begs for me. My Mississippi Map Turtle does the same thing. I strongly suggest that you feed your turtles outside of your tank, like I do. Not only will it keep the tank cleaner, but your turtles will quickly begin to want you and what you to take them out of their aquarium for food.
Awesome, MM's like heavy currents because they mainly live in rivers. Mine seems to like Tetrafauna Repto Treat which is Dried baby shrimp. You can get it at any pet store. I highly recommend that. They should do fine together. Thanks!

you shouldn't keep turtles with fishes in one bowl except you want your turtle to eat the fish, they eat fishes ;/
but...omg it's cuteeee

wildlife455 9 months ago
@wildlife455 ~ That is so funny and pretty cool too. What is the chance of 2 people both having Eastern Painted Turtles named "Jasper"? So how long have you had your Jasper and do you have other turtles?

@SteeleTate I know haha about 7 months, and yea I hvae 37 turtles total haha

alvaro7570 10 months ago
@alvaro7570 ~ Post a video of your turtle showing his sides, top and bottom and I will try to tell you what breed of turtle you have. Was it a gift and is that why you do not know? Have you compared him to other turtles in videos or pictures, to form some type of opinion of what type of turtle you might own?

@SteeleTate i know what tipe it is i think it is a western painted turtle

hey do u use the lamp or no plz answear me im going to buy them
orange8723 10 months ago
@orange8723 ~ Yes, you must use a proper UVA/UVB and heat lamp! Turtles regulate their temperature by using their environment and basking for warmth. Pet turtles must have a basking platform and proper lighting available in their tank. This allows your turtle to completely dry themselves daily and is needed not only for warmth, but also for proper bone and shell development. A turtle must maintain an internal body temperature between 63 to 73 °F.

Someone help me, I had my turtle but she/he aint eat. What will I do? I dunno what kind of turtle is it (aquatic turtle etc)
viLjiNz 10 months ago
@viLjiNz ~ Take your turtles and some of the water from your tank and place them into something much smaller. Put in some food pellets (2 different types may be good, plus count the number of pellets you put in) and some romaine lettuce and leave the room for 15 minutes. When you come back count to see if they have eaten anything and look at the lettuce for obvious signs that they have been eating. If they are baby turtles, you need to be using baby turtle food of course.

which is better: this food that you are feeding them, or shrimps?
iu have both, my turtles eat everything, but which is more healthy for them?
ciukcia98 11 months ago
@ciukcia98 ~ Both foods are great and even other types of food, plus romaine lettuce, turkey meat, meal worms etc is good to consider too. Feeding your turtles a variety of different foods, on different days, is the most ideal approach.

one more question: can i feed them basil?
ciukcia98 11 months ago
@ciukcia98 ~ This may come as a surprise to many people but turtles love to eat vegetation. They can be fed salad greens, herbs such as parsley and basil, cabbage, green beans, broccoli, and carrots. A turtle will even eat fruit and may enjoy eating berries and even bananas. Even though turtles appear to have a slow metabolism, growing baby turtles need to be fed quite frequently and should be feed once or twice a day. Of course turtles are carnivorous and will eat little pieces of fish and meat
SteeleTate 11 months ago
@SteeleTate and also as i know carrots increase they're coloration. you as far i as i know you should feed them not more than every other day, becouse they may get to many vitamins at a time, and that would not be good for turtles health.
ciukcia98 11 months ago
@ciukcia98 ~ No matter what, food pellets are ideal and designed to feed and nourish turtles properly. However, feeding turtles a variety of foods is a good choice, but that really means more then 1 type of pellets. Romanie lettuce can be provided to pet turtles often, while special items like fruits and vegetables should be just that, "special treats" and not considered a feeding staple or the main course.

do you think that the turtle can share the tank with a clown fish?
ClarkHeyEdit 11 months ago
@ClarkHeyEdit ~ I would not put an expensive fish in the same tank as your turtles. It will work for a while, but at some point your fish will become turtle food. Of course the smaller the turtle, the longer the fish will last. I have goldfish in my turtle tank because they are hearty and easy to care for, plus add lots of color, action and enhance the enviornment. But since they only cost $.18 I don't care that they are on the future dinner menu.

duckyluvslollipops 11 months ago
Don't forget you should offer them as much as they can in 15 minutes. I'm just trying to help. But I would try to offer a few more. Maybe 5 reptomin and 5 zoomed. If they don't eat it in the 15 then take it out. I wouldnt worry about making them fat. It takes more than 5 times what I said to make them fat, Again just trying to help you out not yelling or correcting you.

Another thing, I'm getting a filter soon and I'm thinking about acquiring a pair of regular goldfish. What changes should I make to welcome them into the tank? Anything specific? Thanks.
DewleafWolf 1 year ago
@DewleafWolf - Goldfish are easy and their food is good for turtles. Get some cheap feeder goldfish and just set the whole bag into your tank for 30 minutes so the water temp adjusts slowly. After 30 minutes, open the bag and turn it on its side so they can swim out. Feed them a pinch of food once a day and you're set. You could also add a bottom feeder like a cory catfish or snail, which also help clean the tank and expand your enviornment. The turtles may eat the fish someday so cheap is good.

Very nice! Still love your tank. This is just how I feed mine. :)

How big does a Heiroglyphic River Cooter get?? And should I me being a begginer with turtles, get a Mississippi Map or a Heiroglyphic River cooter turtle??
Ktfunsizednarly 1 year ago
@Ktfunsizednarly -- The Hieroglyphic River Cooter turtles can be expected to range from 5-13 inches in length when they reach maturity. Like many aquatic turtles, the females are typically bigger than the males.
Both the River Cooter and Mississippi Map turtles are good choices for a beginner and both have a very unique appearience.
Thanks for watching!

Thank you!
Mileyfans2010 1 year ago
@Mileyfans2010 - You can put fish in the tank, but it's only natural for your turtles to eat or bite them as they get larger. If you start with fish right away while your turtles are small/young there is a chance they will get used to the fish and never harm them, but I doubt it long term. It's nice to have fish the the tank, so go buy some larger goldfish which are hearty and cheap. Their bright color is a nice contrast and the goldfish food is good for, plus adds variety to your turtle's diet.

Thank you so much, your method of how to feed the turtles are working. My two turtles are finally eating today! I am very thankful and appreciated!
I am very happy now!

Thank you so much for your information, I will try it today. I see that you put two little piece of food and one pellets. What is that two little piece of food that you put in? I bought a ReptoMin for small Aquatic turtles, is that the right food? Do I need a heated lamp too? How much of water that I should put into the tank?
Thank you!
Mileyfans2010 1 year ago
@Mileyfans2010 - Reptomin Baby and Zoo Med's Hatchling Aquatic Food are both good choices for baby turtles, and romaine lettuce. Feeding your turtles a variety, changing each day, is smart and best for their health. You MUST have a heating lamp and a UVA/B bulb so that your turtles can bask. Pet turtles must have a basking platform available in their tank. This allows your turtle to completely dry themselves daily and is needed not only for warmth, but also for proper bone and shell development.

Why my turtles still did not want to eat? It has been a week now, they still don't want to eat. Any suggestion?

@Mileyfans2010 -- Take your turtles and some of the water from your tank and place them into something much smaller. Put in some food pellets (2 different types may be good, plus count the number of pellets you put in) and some romaine lettuce and leave the room for 15 minutes. I also have another question. Are there mississippi map turts at petsmart or any other Kind of pet store? And How much would they be??
Ktfunsizednarly 1 year ago
@Ktfunsizednarly -- I would try buying a turtle at a locally own pet store myself and not a chain store, because if they do not sell aquatic turtles, they may be able to refer you to a local breeder. You can also attend any reptile show that would be held in your area, where breeders will be for sure. Just search for "reptile show" with your city or state in google. As far as the price, you should be able to buy a map turtle for around $25.
SteeleTate 1 year ago
Also one other question.. Do you have to feed mississippi map turtles meat? are there pellets with protein in them because I didn't see you feed them meat in the video???
ThanKs alot!!!!!
Ktfunsizednarly 1 year ago
@Ktfunsizednarly - My turtles are just babies so I have not given them any meat. I use a variety of floating pellet foods and romaine lettuce, changing what I feed them day to day. They also eat some of the goldfish food, which seems to be very beneficial for their coloring. Of course the goldfish are there for the taking and I assume they will become turtle food some day. Although, they may become comfortable with fish in the tank and never eat them, unless it's just an instinct no matter what.
SteeleTate 1 year ago
When you are feeding your fish wouldnt your turts eat the fish food. and where did you get your turt petco, petsmart.. breeder etc
Ktfunsizednarly 1 year ago
@Ktfunsizednarly - As shown in my video, I feed my turtles outside of the tank giving them about 10 to 15 minutes to eat, and feed the fish while the turtles are out. If I feed the fish while the turtles are in the tank they do eat some of the fish food, but that is not a problem and is actually good for the turtles. I purchase 90% of everything I need from a locally owned pet store and only go to a chain store for a few things, plus I purchased my turtles from breeders. Thanks for watching!
SteeleTate 1 year ago
HAha thanks for the advice, i try to feed them outside, but like. when i take em out and put them, in the different container, they dont eat... like they eat when ever they want...
and cant keep them in there for ever.... Not only tht but i rarely have time to take them out like that.. so i just feed them in the tank.. :( makes the water dirty... im planning on getting a mississippi map turtle i want one soo bad.

@N0VAlyfe69 -- Mississippi Map turtles are beautiful and have an awesome shell.
SteeleTate 1 year ago
my turtles are terrified of me! :(
N0VAlyfe69 1 year ago
@N0VAlyfe69 -- That will change over time and your turtles will start to want you. If you watch my videos, you'll notice that when my Eastern Painted Turtle sees me, he comes to the front of the aquarium and almost begs for me. My Mississippi Map Turtle does the same thing. I strongly suggest that you feed your turtles outside of your tank, like I do. Not only will it keep the tank cleaner, but your turtles will quickly begin to want you and what you to take them out of their aquarium for food.
