This makes me think of a time when electronic music was new and each new album was a wild journey into uncharted territory. When I listen to this kind of thing in that frame of mind, it's just....wonderful.
Does anyone know how to get in touch with Steve? I have a recording of a piece of ambient music, from a long time ago, that sounds like his style, but since I recorded it off the radio (Hearts of Space program on my local public access radio station), I don't have the name of the piece or the artist. If I was able to contact him, I could play the piece to him and find out if it was his, or if he knew whos it was.
I guess I wasn't clear in my last post. . . sorry. The piece of music isn't from "Dreatime Returns". I'm not sure where it is from, or what it's call, . . . or even if Steve Roach composed it. Just sounds like his style. If I was able to play it for him, he may know the origin.
Hey, all. This is my new account. I have made a video of the song [that I need information on], and have posted it on YouTube, . . . and if the owner of this video will allow, I will post a video response. Thanks! :-)
Well i should add that i have enjoyed the comments here, one or two have touched me enough to come back and make this comment. Sorry for your loss bharfarar, in time i guess we shall all return home and like you said there will be no more tears then.
Steves music is great becuase it enables us to feel what we want when we here it. We most all share a kind distance from life that lets us take in his worlds. I will always like this music. Greater than any nostalgic memories.
even with most sophisticated recording studios available it doesn't come close to replicating yesterday's ambience sounds - nowadays most digital might mimic analog based music but it doesn't get any closer to vintage recording of the past.
Very sad comments. I can see the pull this music must have had. I found myself listening to "Requiem for Dying Mothers" by Stars of the Lid just after my own mom died. Music becomes a very direct experience when it relates that closely to something in your own life, doesn't it?
Steve Roach is the best! But those of you who don't know Stars of the Lid, give them a listen too. Very nice stuff.
I listened to Steve Roach's Something In Tears on the way to see my mother when she was dying. I had had Quiet Music for a long time, and Steve's reflections on feelings, emotion, time and place have always been crucial to my life. This piece helped me sense the inferences of life, and was to make special the last moments I saw my mother. When I see her again, I believe I will hear the music of ecstacy that Steve's music pointed to, and then there shall be no more tears.
I stumbled upon this song while going through my favorites and came across your comment, and I must say your comment melted my heart. It was pretty what you wrote. I'd thought I just say that May God bless you.
people respond to his songs in many ways.the beginning of life, the journey of life, and the end of life.your comment is very beautiful and powerful.life is full of the good and the bad.his music takes me places i wish i could go to.places that i remember.i know that when it is my time, ill be there.i cry when i realize that i cannot go to these moments in time and place.
@bharfarar It's strange how this music seems to bring comfort to so many. God Bless you for your depth and know that what you have written here has deeply touched another person. May She Rest In Eternal Peace, my good man.

Maybe you can put it on youtube and someone will recognise it.

That is a great idea, actually. . . . . . now, if I can only figure out how to get it onto my computer from a tape player.
I'll think on this a bit. :-)

Requiem For Dying Mothers is very good.
I can also recommend another piece by Steve Roach, 'Quiet Friend,' found on the 'Structures From Silence' album.

I cried every time I listened to this when my thoughts were turned to seeing my dad being taken from us by Alzheimer's.
