Pride celebrations around the world commemorate who we are, where we've come from, and instills a sense of community among a group of people who have been, and continue to be, discriminated against in all aspects of their life. Not at all, understood perfectly. Just not sure why they wouldn't? Certainly, they were at Stonewall. Kicking them out of the movement when they face so many similar problems seems weird. Never heard the same thing asked about family members (for example PFLAG, etc).

What about the ones who, um, *are* lesbian or gay? And, they were pretty well linked in the past. Also, it's a useful alliance because of what is often similar discrimination. There are plenty of distinct issues, but issues of basic equality apply to us all -- and the public does conflate sexuality and gender issues a LOT. Furthermore the idea that's it's simply trans people involved with "gay issues" seems a bit off the mark? Not sure what you're getting at, really?

He looks a lot like a guy, even if he had his dick removed or whatever, it's easy to tell he was born a guy, so I refer to him as "he". Amanda Lepore, who lives in my neighborhood, I refer to her as "she", because she looks like a real woman. If we didn't know the story of her life, we'd think she was born a woman.

That doesn't change anything. Both your neighbor and this person have gone through the same processes, and regardless of physical appearance, deserve the same respect. Clearly the only respect you have is for yourself, and possibly a few people YOU feel you're capable of judging 'worthy'. If you think that she is ugly, you are entitled to that opinion, but you have no right to judge her through that. Her gender is absolute, and it cannot be determined by appearance, that's just the facts.
