im so frustrated..i just cant understand the knit charts. i've learned to read written out patterns really well (i'm a nooby btw) but knit charts just confuse me.
@pheonixphire I know it can be frustrating. What helped me is I was used to reading charts for counted cross-stitch. Start with a very simple pattern for lace. Say something that is just a 10 or 12 stitch repeated pattern and make a scarf. Keep it simple and small and by the end of the scarf a light will come on and you'll get it. Hang in there!
I've seen a lot of knit vids and yours is by far one of the best. I love the combination of instruction and personal comfort and pride you take in your work and in giving it away . Thank you for your encouragement!
@bubblebuffy Agreed, that is how it would be written out, but when I first started I had a hard time with knowing the number was how many times you did the statch so I thought newbies might appreciate the instruction. I shoudl have mentioned that K9 woudl be the appropriate way. Thanks.
beautiful! but isnt that a purl stitch that you are knitting? because your needle is going into the front? I am refreshing my memory , havent knitted in years. just wundering
I remember when i first saw a pattern and watched my nan knit i was just in awe at how she could read it. "sl1 k1 pass slstover" I used to wonder what it meant lol. But once knowing what it meant it seemed so easy.
I think these are god to get those who have never knitted to try.
You inspired me girlie, I started to think about crocheting and I decided to try to make a shawl, so I whipped one up the other night, I used the daughter to size it this morning and she liked it, so you know where it is now.
that is coming along beautifully. I loved that lace pattern you showed near the end. Only charts I've ever done were for making things like scottie dogs, christmas trees, bones, lol. I'd love to see you do a video sometime where you change yarn in a pattern. I sometimes have a hard time changing colors (for example if knitting a blue sweater with a black dog, changing from the blue to the black in the pattern) does that make sense? I so enjoy your knitting vlogs.
I'm more of a crochet man, but I find your knitting videos interesting. You should send Curious Creek some photographs of your work. They only have two viewer pics on their website.
I think it's awesome you know about Curious Creek. I propbably couldn't put any pictures of my stuff on their site though because I've never knit any of their patterns ;-) I have bought their yarn before...but then I've bought everyone's yarn!
ROFLMAO! You had me going there! I even watched the vid over again to see where it was! The yarn that the designer used to knit the shawl was from them. And I was so excetied I had a crafting buddy!! :-(
Hmmm..now, ya know I don't like spiders..but..if a spider were to do a "how to make a web", don't ya think it might look very similar to your knitting instruction? That is where my head went watching your fingers do the knitting..perhaps you could teach spiders how to upgrade to lace/color webs? :)
Perfect camera angle, very easy to see. I found the explanation of the symbols interesting, I think I'd be better with the chart, also. Except I don't plan to be knitting anytime soon. I crochet and will show off some of my pieces sometime. The yarn is pretty and GREEN (I couldn't believe I said pink last time, but it was funny) lol
Oh my darling Valerie! You shouldn't have said anything because I thought you said the "pink" as a very funny joke. ;-) You are the BEST you make me laugh and smile and that is rare these stressful days! I love you to pieces!
Thaanks for sharing. What size needles were you using i this vid?

I noticed that you knit like I do. I go through the back of the loops rather than the front. I wish you could show how you do a SSK.

It wouldn't say k1 k1 k1 k1 k1 k1 k1 k1 k1, it would say k9...

Cool! I was wondering if you could make a video about how to cast off, or bind off. :)
Cuz I've been having a little bit of trouble casting off..and i was wondering if you could please make a video about that. ^_^

I will try and show you some cast offs, but if you need help right away there are some good vids online at knittinghelp(dot)com

That was like me with crochet when my grandma tried to teach me. Seems every craft has it's own language!

That's a good idea, Susan. I can show you a couple ways to change yarns. I use differnt methods depending on the type of yarn and the project.

I want her to knit a couple of lace spiderweb triangles we can mount between braces and beams for halloween...
