In early 1985, I listened to the freshly released album "A Secret Wish" of Propaganda. It was really amazing experience. A new stream of German Synthpop emerged then.
So thank you, The Twins, Propaganda, Alphaville and others. Thanks for all the the music". God Bless You.
It is just brilliant. How great the performers respected the original sounds of "Dr Mabuse" - it's almost like in 1984. Nowadays, electronic artists - when playing their own old songs - usually devastate old arrangements by using new, crappy, "modern" sounds.
Make sure you all come to the scala in london on wed 2nd march - sounds like it will be great as line-up includes Claudia, Suzanne, Glenn Gregory, Paul Humphreys, Andy Bell + others. Apparently she will be playing some NEW material too.
Propaganda was made to have a full orchestria playing behind them. Their sounds was always so full and rich naturally without being produced to get it that way.
Saw them live @ Leicester Poly in Dec 1985 - we forced our way to the front, my mates werer drooling over Claudia, but I had my eyes fixed on the automaton-drumming of Susanna. Her bum has certainly stood the test of time (3.35).
one of my 2 favorite songs, besides shout from tears for fears, when I was a child. sitting in front of the tape-recorder and trying to record it, when it was broadcasted in the radio. recently read an article about a compilation, propaganda publishes 2010, it reminded me of those old memories. Had a look at youtube: and nowadays appreciate this song even more.
Has this been released on dvd? Back in the day Propaganda was on German tv all the time,so i caught this track a lot. Susanne and Claudia might just be the hottest girls in music, right after Sinead O´Connor of cause:-)
Yep, that's a great live version of the track, and yes, that is Alan White of Yes on acoustic drums. Trevor Horn idolised Yes (Buggles even joined Yes after their smash hit Video Killed The Radio Star, with Trevor replacing Jon Anderson and Geoff Downes replacing Rick Wakeman) and Yes members sessioned for Trevor on all sorts of his later work (even Steve Howe played on Frankie Goes To Hollywood's Welcome To The Pleasuredome).
This whole concert is fantastic and even though I'm not a fan of a
A song that's always be lurking in my musical memory bank, but it had been pushed into a long-forgotten corner, now, it's been swirling round my head since I discovered this 3 days ago. Absolutely outstanding and it is very uncanny that Claudia and Susanne look quite alike nowadays.......
when the sequencer kicked in i just got chills running up from my thighs.
I remember being so impressed with this track when it came out...as a musician myself it was almost intimidating, this mixture of disco, orchestral, high german gothic art, and electronica...."Mabuse" was one of the great musical achievements of the 80's...and Trevor way ahead sonically and compositionally of his peers
i have listened to this for a couple of weeks and I can't get itn out of my head.. beautiful, haunting, powerful, subtle, it has everything ... this is art in musical form...
It was good to see this happen, specially since there was tons of drama/differences between Claudia and the rest of the band (which had to do with Claudia boning Trevor Horne; aka ZTT Records king/producer, and going solo with ACT).
@gillianseed Claudia was actually boning Paul Morley, not Trevor Horn (as far as I know). Paul and Claudia even got married so they must have really enjoyed the boning :)
if i win the euro millions this weekend, im having an 80s fest concert in dublin 100,000 thou croke park , 150 euros a ticket, on the bill, double, propagada, simple minds, depeche mode, police, etc, etc i reckon a mill a band will get what i wont, whose up for it
Half of them probs don't know who propaganda is thts why the crowd is a bit lifeless. the concert is a celebration of trevor horn and this isn't really one of trevor horns most mainstream works
Genius. Remember hearing this on John Peel show many years ago and thinking my god that is brilliant. Bought it next day after school. I heard Suzanne became a jeweller in Hastings - don't know if it's true??? Love this song.
this is brilliant, wish i had known about it at the time... are they still playing together? Claudia Brucken is one of the best female vocalists on the planet... and at least she is dancing (a bit!)

Spectacular, one of the best videos on YouTube. Finally, the DVD of the entire concert is available in America. it would have really been something if they had done the entire "A Secret Wish" album at this concert.
