Well I have to say that usually I'm very picky about what passes for TRUE CREATIVE DR WHO. But this is probably the most impressive take on the Title sequence I have seen. And Being a BBC Phonic shop & Derbyshire nut; I approve of the measures taken to smooth out D's Original master piece. I'm aware of Rob's talent as being one of the most credible on YT, but this really is the work of a man whos fuel is passion & inspiration. You have my unrelentless approval Rob!
At LAST! Someone who hasn't used Murray's shity 'Disection of Delia's Classic' orchestral & sententious dross. And the middle 8 is present! Great work! You should teach those pricks at the BBC now, hows it's done.
It's referred to as "howlaround" in the UK. It's a form of video feedback. If you point a video camera at a TV screen, you get weird shapes, especially if you start with an image.
Thats absolutely right! If you point a camera at its own moniter, then you get all sorts of crazy patterns. I think the whole original opening sequence was triggered by a single beam of light, and the result was the strange images that we all know today! That and the theme tune- Absolutely groundbreaking stuff for back then!
Please correct me if I am wrong, but this looks like it uses the unused Jon Pertwee title sequence. I've got clips of that so I hope to put them on. It's absolutely fantastic though
that is brill! the howlaround sequence is tricky to do, but if you turn down the colour, contrast and brightness slightly you get great abstracting effects
I think the 1960's intro's were the best and really ahead of their time, both visually and audioly, pity time has caught up with the new ones now

If this had appeared instead of the original titles in '63, the entire population of Britain would have shat themselves.

Shouldn't it be in 4:3 aspect ratio to be authentic? And of course it should be in black and white.
PStaveley1 1 year ago
Actually....that's pretty clever mixing. Too bad the howlaround couldn't form the good Doctor's face. That would be bonus.

I'd love to see if you could work an image of Hartnell into a revamp of his credits as we never did get for his era. :)

I've always wondered how they made those weird shapes in the 60's titles.

i think i heard that it involved pointing a camera at a monitor it was attached to and making some kind of feedback loop. something like that

Not bad. The howlarounds could be a bit faster and the music editing is a rough, but it looks decent enough for an unfinished gig.

It is actually an unused version of the William Hartnell Titles. I've seen it on 'An Unearthly Child' DVD bonus features
daleks4ever 4 years ago
Yep, but its been mixed with color filters and CGI Layers

seeing those filters used on the Patrick Troughton or Jon Pertwee titles would be interesting.

No, don't put William Hartnell's face on it. It will be spoil. It's a good video without the Doctor's Face.
