I think that the lack of two-parent households is the single largest source of problems among african americans. 50 years ago, most african american children lived with two loving parents. Crime and drug use were lower. Unfortunately, what we have are WAAAAY too much of are african american children being raised by BET while their fathers are in prison, gangbanging, or are dead.
When you do adopt this son he will be a very lucky child and hopefully you would start a generation of sons growing into real men. If only celebrities would adopt black kids in this country instead of flying off to Africa to adopt. We have needs right here in the US. I guess Africans are preferrable to African Americans for them.
The story about the kid who read the rap lyrics to his mom is a good one. I'll have to remember that for the future, when I'm talking to these young brothas out here.
Mayhaps so, but that was not the point of the video. The point being made is that when two parents work together in engaging a child, they can make a profound difference in the path a child takes in life. But to your point, the consciousness kids may garner from rap (or any ideology) is a responsibility of guiding that parents have abdicated. So I agree with you on that issue.
I need to correct what I said. I meant that pro-abortionists need to know that there are people out there who do adopt children. They like to say that anti-abortionists don't care about children.
I don't believe in abortion, yet I would never stand in the way of another to do so unless they were in my household. Adoption or marriage would be the only option. Jesus, according to scripture never stood in the way of anyone doing wrong. The only act of violence he committed was when he threw the money changers out of HIS FATHER'S HOUSE. Seek first to understand so that others may understand you. TMOT - 2009.
Congratulations on going out of your way to adopt a son; that shows the anti-abortionists that there are in fact people out there who adopt children. And I'm glad there are people speaking out against rap music. You probably know that there's a movie out about Notorious B.I.G., and I can't believe the infatuation Hollywood has with people like that. I say there should be a boycott of movies like that.
I remember when I was told by my wife that we had a little one on the way. I panicked. I was terrified. Despite this never once did I consider running away. My fears were not about the child and what that child would do to my life. My fears were about my own abilities as a man and how able a father I would prove to be. Every day that little four years old come running up to me to be held and played with and loved. I would not change a thing. I see my success everyday in his eyes and his smile.
Talk about being strong and being weak. Being courageous and being afraid. High expectations of ppl and your effort to live up to them and fear of failure. Very human, very real.Tell how being a husband and father play a role in it all. God Bless!
You just had to say that now didn't you! LOL! Now I'm just going to have to do a video on my experience with this and yes my "little bear" will be making a cameo appearence. Tmotofga I hope you don't mind if I make that a video response to this. I can't think of a more fitting response. ~KT
What I like about this video is actually a different subject matter! The fact that the Daddy IMMEDIATELY CALLED THE SON OUT!! He didn't say,"Well, he has talent; let's go make money". He questioned it, he MADE the son confront what he did without going ape. He caused him to SEE AND UNDERSTAND the error of his ways. Too, too many people are so cowardly or guilt ridden that they wouldn't have said anything or would have just jumped in and beat his ass!
That's an interesting turn around in that boy's life. So, I'm guessing that he slowly turned his life around since that day of the lyrics. Would of never guessed something so simple can be that effective.
You would be surprised how much our kids want to be like us. Imagine them having a Positive Father and Mother that actually cares for them and their future.
My parents divorced when I was about 6. But my father was there for me 24/7/365. If I wanted to go somewhere I had to ask my mom, AND my dad. I turned out okay. And my dad is still around. But some people are not so lucky... - just though I'd share a little personal story.
That is good. I don't mean to say that success is only possible with both parents. But when both are not there, it takes a very strong MOTHER and all the help she can get from the village. Peace and Love from me to you, TMOT.

Old school rap had a political and social message. This mess out here today is just tripe and gives rap a bad name.

powerful story.
hooray for husbands and fathers!
YOU should write a book entitled:
Husbands and fathers: men: We're only human.
Talk about being strong and being weak. Being courageous and being afraid. High expectations of ppl and your effort to live up to them and fear of failure. Very human, very real.Tell how being a husband and father play a role in it all. God Bless!

Bless you. It doesn't take a village.
It takes a mom and a dad. Common sense and reality spoken. Take care. Uplifting video and spot on Sir.
