  • Can you put the tabs on mediafire please :B @ExtremeBogom

  • @gleucoma

Hey mate, thanks for informing me of the dead link. I've replaced it with a MU link.

  • @ExtremeBogom Thanks !!! :D

  • can you believe that there is this idiot that thinks jeff loomis plays harder material than shawn? im not knocking on loomis, he is amazing, but lane shits all over loomis in the technical department. R.I.P. Shawn Lane.

  • I'm sorry, was that an 8 fret reach at that speed? I'll work on that for about 30 years and get back to you on my progress.

  • r.i.p. lane!- your alright

  • I Watched!

  • he could teach relaxation classes and guitar lessons at the same time

  • Why does Lane's work always look easy?

  • @stoob1969 because the best always make the outrageous look like a walk in the park.

  • i think i might just give up guitar playing.....

  • Monster player, shitty echo effect used during demonstration.

  • Didn't know steroids helped guitar playing.....

  • @xxxOrionxx hmm i wonder.... finger strength? lolol

  • noise

  • diminished*

  • dude I can't even do the diminishes one, let alone the aug one...

  • Yngwie Malmsteen can suck it!

  • I hate guitarist who makes "instructional videos" just to show how they're techincal or badass, whithout teaching anything.

  • @wilrock910

    They hate you.

  • @wilrock910 To be fair, the uploader cut out the instruction portion and only posted the demonstration.

  • When you listen to this you can slightly more comprehend what it was that shaped Bucketheads playing in to that crazy stuff he does ;)

  • lol, "Or you can do it in a wider, augmented style," No Shawn......no I can't.

  • my guitar doesn't do that.

  • @superdanlewis

Dude, That was the funniest comment of all Youtube.

    Thanks for posting this

    =D

  • @raphaelpassaroto haha thank you very much my friend :) all the best

  • This is the mother of all "betcha can't play this"

  • Comment removed

  • @timtimtim1888 wait are you saying that the mother of betcha also can´t play anything?? D: Fuck Their Life

  • To play like that, you have to be really dedicated full time. I don't have enough time for that unfortunately.

  • HAHA I CANT EVEN PLAY THAT SLOWED DOWN XD LOL

  • Slash playin this lick like 12h13h14, (fingering 1,2,4)

  • Wooooooooooooooowwwwwwww......... Lucky wife.

  • SHAWN AND HIS SUPER IBANEZ GHOST RIDER...!!! PUMPED WITH STEROIDS...!!!! GREAT GUITAR...!!!!!!

BEST GUITAR PLAYER OF THE GALAXY...!!!

  • Computer game sound effects for the win.

  • I'd trade him back, in exchange to pop music

  • what guitar is that oaul reed smith?

  • Shawn Lane truly did outshred all guitarists! And he still does.

  • Honestly, does he expect ANYBODY to be able to play this? Anyone who can watch this video, understand it and have the chops to pull off these digit-liquefying licks is a CHAMP in my book.

  • @WoWintosh nice term ive never heard digit liquifying before a trippy term indeed

  • gonzalo caceres wn!!!

  • "the most terrifying guy of all-time" says paul gilbert

  • @terainwer

"The greatest guitarist ever" says Buckethead.

  • @Fluffypopcicle Where did you hear that? :P

  • @Brentypooz

There is a giant list of quotes from other professional guitarists about Shawn, that was one of them. Buckethead invented finger nubbing thanks to Shawn imitating Nancarrow. Buckethead idolized Shawn, there is no reason to think that is a fake quote.

  • @Fluffypopcicle no i don't think its fake, i just thought you had found a video of buckethead and shawn lane

  • He is still alive... playing in front of you.

  • a WITCH!

  • @BombsonBicycles

It's funny you type this. I was thinking that in the old days he'd be killed for sorcery.

I can't personally think of anyone that is within RPG launching distance of this guy technically.

He's just a cut above, in my estimation.

  • wow buckethead plays that last augmented like all the time! im pretty sure he got it form shwan lane too.

  • @bluewetball

Yes, he is using righthand tapping when he plays it though

  • Scary monstor

  • Fuck it, I quit.

  • ''That's a real workout,''

  • terrifying!!!!

  • if you watch carefully he barely picks

  • holy shit! what the hell just happened? time to scrape my jaw off the floor and sell my guitar..........

  • @PhilTheMetalhead

    LMFAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

HaHaHaHa!! No shit huh! That was insane!!

You better sell it Phil!! Haha you just gave me a gut buster!!! hahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!!!

  • I watched this in high quality and with the greater sound quality you can really hear how freakish clean he plays this shit. It isn't even funny because some of these licks are not only fast but also got real odd picking patterns and you get no clue how to do it whatsoever.... To play this lick at slow tempos is hard enough...

  • @hsoux33 Thats what REALLY fucked me up......LOL, i got the TAB to some of this stuff, and half way thru my fingers hurt,............and i was just learning the POSITIONS!!.......LOL, there freakishly hard finger AND picking patterns, your fingers have to be like machanical Pistons to be that accurate..............NEVER MIND reapeating that shit flawlessly everytime..............IMPOSSIBLE, this guy is the big dark secret of every pro guitarist out there, you never hear almost ANYONE mention him

  • @vetmusician But your fingers will eventually get used too these kind of stretching when you practice it slowly and relaxed. But first time i tried out these Lane things my hand hurt so badly, but it's getting better with time.

I will never be able to play any close to this mans ability, but at least I learnt something trying.

  • @vetmusician

That's not true at all. In the shred world you see his name float around quite a bit.

  • Are you a wizard?

  • are you a wizard? .________.

  • Shawn: Yeah.. you can just do this... no shawn.. no. you cant.

  • Did anyone else just shit their pants with fear?...

  • A WITCH!

  • Fuck, impossible... thanks for your legacy shawn...

  • For that guy who keeps putting out the "This guitar player VS that guitar player" You could just make a new series called "Shawn Lane stomps the crap out of this guitar player".

  • how do his fingers move so fast???

  • "Now that's a real workout." No chit , Shawn !! For real!?? :) LOL! Thanks for posting and where can I get this instructional DVD, please???

  • what example is it on the pdfs theres so many!!!

  • When is this from?

  • @Jcaldrone12

From 1993 if I'm not mistaken.

  • @0ptriX Thanks bro.

  • That guy was just ridiculously good. When he was playing that augmented lick at the end - damn I don't even have the range to play this. It doesn't even look as if his hands were huge. But his range obviously was insane.

  • @Asphyx123

Yeah his hands were quite small, but apparently he was extremely double-jointed.

  • damn he is good

  • Simply an amazing musician. No word can describe the level that this man is at.

  • Dweezil Zappa used this lick on one of his songs !

  • Love his dim and aug licks in that vid, they just got a nice fingering

  • love that tone, what kinda amp is he using?

  • @therag I read somewhere that he used a Fender Bluesmaster? But he often used 4 amps... Shawn liked quadraphonic effects, particularly with delay apparently ;)

  • hey even when he played it slow i didn't quite get that. does anyone know exactly what he's doing?

  • @charvinaldo

It's a pattern wherein you go up a bit, then down a bit more, then up a bit within a scale/pattern.

Kind of think of it like this: Go up 1 note, then down 2 notes, up 1 note, down 2 notes, up 1 note, down 2 notes etc.

You end up gradually going down/descending to the finish.

When he goes back up, this sequence is just reversed.

    Hope that helps?

  • @ExtremeBogom hmm kinda. so it sounds to me like you have your fingers in a diminnished shape, play the middle, the high note the root, and then play the middle, go down half a step, and play the root again. and then he's doing that each string going down, with different chord shapes, like dim, aug, or some chromatic stuff at the beginning. is that right?

  • @ExtremeBogom whats the name of this tape?

  • @CaptainGill1

    "Power Licks"

  • @ExtremeBogom can you explain me this with a tab please I really want to try and fail lol xD

  • @charvinaldo AHH DONT EVEN TRY, I GAVE IT A GOOD SHOT AND IM PRETTY GOOD AT PICKIN STUFF UP, AND I HAVE COME TO THE SIMPLE CONCLUSION, OOPS SORRY BOUT THE CAPS, only shawn lane can play shawn lane, seen folks do vai, to hendrix, to dimeola and so on...even guthrie govan,,but no one has really successfully covered shawn lane, i just dont think it can be done..would love to see it though:)

  • @scottfree6 basically true. Have you heard of Tosin Abasi though? of course just because you CAN cover someone doesn't mean that person isn't that good. Tosin Abasi's arrpegios are radically different from Shawn's, but really interesting, not to mention challenging! Pretty much any song by animals as leaders (Tosin's Band) is incredible, but for starters try On Impulse, Point to Point, and maybe Tempting Time or Wave of Babies for some freaking ridiculous arrpegios. Shawn#1, Tosin#2 4 hard arps

  • @charvinaldo

Nah, there are people with much harder arpeggios than Tosin. Marshall Harrison, Jeff Loomis, Jason Becker etc. his argpeggios are very challenging, but I wouldn't put them anywhere near that high. Shawn doesn't actually use arpeggios that much either from what I understand. They are just ludicrously fast and technical runs covering lots of area on the fretboard. Marshall Harrison has the most challenging arps from what I have seen. SWYBRID PICKING FTW!!!

  • @Fluffypopcicle I haven't heard of marshall harrison, i'll have to check him out. i kinda ran out of characters towards the end so i see it left a wrong message a little bit. No, shawn actaully rarely uses arrpegios. It kinda just comes up in one little spot here or there in a lot of songs. Honestly i like Tosin's arps way more than jeff's or jason's. I LIKE tosin's the most because they are so interesting, especcialy when you deconstruct them. i actually think his are the most complex by far

  • @charvinaldo

Tosin's are possibly the most musically complex because he bases them off of unusual and interesting 9th chords and just very interesting chords. Almost all of his his arpeggios are musically interesting and complicated in some way, but as far as how hard they are to play I find Miles of Machines and Serrana to be more difficult than anything Tosin has done. I like Tosin's the best right now though.

  • @Fluffypopcicle and yeah, tosin has super interesting chords. looove it. i haven't learned serrana, but i remember learning the intro to miles of machines a while back and i didn't find it THAT hard...idk maybe just different guitarists find different things hard. one thing is for sure though, this marshal dude is a guitar hass. i think due to limmited time right now i might actually focus just on interesting arps combingations of sweep, hybrid, alternate, etc. thanks for your insight! so stoked

  • @charvinaldo

You're welcome :) I haven't listened to a full song from Marshall's solo album, but from the snippets available at Amazon . com some songs look good and some songs look mediocre. He IS a total theory freak though lol. I have him to thank for teaching me what real legato is. I always thought it was just not using the pick, but that wouldn't make sense because legato originated as a piano term. You don't use pick to play the piano lol.

  • @charvinaldo

Oh, and swybrid picking is a combination of hyrbid picking and sweep picking. I believe it's something that Marshall invented. He uses it quite a bit. It takes a while to realize how much of a genius Marshall is because he has a less than desirable tone and his phrasing is VERY strange, but once you start enjoying him it's hard not to call him one of the greatest guitarists alive right now in terms of technical ability and understanding of theory.

  • @Fluffypopcicle whoa...just checked some of his stuff out...that was like...ok watching those videos was like a revelation to me. looks like suddenly i've got a ton of brilliant new stuff to be working on! He does have some incredible stuff. I haven't listened to marshall's actual music yet, but i am looking forward to it. i absolutely love tosin and i have a feeling that even if marshall's music is somehow pure aweful, i'll still have a ton to learn from him. i admit it, you are right about mar

  • @scottfree6 oh wow kool bro i'll check it:) and of course totally agreed that just cuz you can cover somebody doesnt mean they are not good or great for that matter..all those guys i mentioned are great. you know back in the days when i was in my teens(uh oh given away my age lol), yngwie was on the rise and like basically it was how fast can you do it and the less people that could match you the better you were lol!of course we know its what notes:) TY for the heads up&the tabs.ROCKON BROTHER!

  • Haha, 0:01 "has this effect of falling down the stairs or something"

  • @Morenumbers123456789 take a slap

  • Holy shit, that augmented intervel stretch is instence! I can only just pick up my speed with the 3 fingered diminished interval lick, but the augmented exercise is just too much 0_______0

  • Ive been investigating and I have tons of evidence that shawn lane was an alien was an alien

  • "Now that's a real workout."

    Fuck you, Shawn, FUCK YOU!

  • 5 dislikes . wtf

  • HolyFuckBollocks........

  • The last lick is a stretch from the 11th fret to the 19th...

    Played at 9,000 BPM...

    Shawn made it look easy...

    o_O

  • shiiiiiiiiiiiit wtf is this? this is exxxxxxxtraterrestiallllllll!!!!!!!!!

  • I have no idea how in the fuck he got his hands to stretch that far at such high speeds. Its insane, nothing else describes it.

  • It sounds really cool when he played it slow :P

  • I can easily see Yngwie watching one of these Shawn Lane videos, than going to a dark corner haha. (No disrespect to Yngwie, he is a great player but he can act pretty cocky about his playing!)

  • He's so god damn smooth on top of it.

  • "when you play it fast, it has this effect like falling down stairs or something"....Shawn fast for me is about 1/2 the speed you just played it

  • the example 17 remind me the solo of enemies of reality from nevermore

  • MY BRAIN!!! My beautiful brain!!!! AHHHHHH!!!!!!

  • why is this not on dvd? :(

  • "Now that's a real work out!"

  • what's with all this delay and echo? ugggggg! it makes the first Van Halen album sound frikin dry!!!!

  • @joeylodes You may as well ask what's with all this distortion. Who cares? It's the sound he likes. Some poeple have lots of effects some use only an acoustic guitar.

  • this is what inspired bucketheads finger nubbig.the sound of it at least.God bless!

  • that is just too Insane!!!

  • Lui è incredibile, nessun' altro puo farlo !!

  • satan would sell his soul to shawn lane

  • This shit freaks me out man, its insane!

  • well its a real work out..

    :P

by placing ur thumb right under d neck makes it much easier..

but still its a real workout

    :P

  • Did he sell his soul to satan?

  • I can do a stretch of 12-17-22 but it is damn hard and i cant do it for very long. But shawn is damn good. i will never catch up to him.

  • I can do a stretch of 12-17-19-24.

But stretches aren't everything, Shawn Lane isn't known for doing wide stretches, he's known for kicking ass !

  • @Emil315 i would like a video of that...

  • I'll give you a picture if you want.

Unfortunately, I have no video camera to record that with.

  • Yes but the point is to show you can move around with that stretch ;).

  • @ExtremeBogom I never claimed to be able to move around with it, but if I tilt my hand, I can do the stretch 12-17-19-22 and move around with it.

  • Work around with it, work it up. See if if you can't make somethin cool out of it. Maybe like an augmented plus a 7 or something. Idk. being able to use something like that is cool.

  • yeah right 12-24 how tall are you 2,20 ?

  • @hldemi I'm only 1.90, but I have really big hands, long fingers, and hyper-mobile limbs, which means I can bend my arms, legs, fingers, toes, skin etc. further than normal. That being said, I find it hard to move aroud with a stretch that big, but I can still move around with stretches almost as big.

  • @Emil315 Maybe but its still hard to believe . Where you can get from 5 ?

  • 12, but if I really stretch it, I get to 13.

  • What?? 11-15-19? O.o

  • If the world were to end unless someone today could reproduce that guitar work, I would get beers and have a bbq because we would all die.

  • @altjff15 hahah i love that comment

  • Insane!!! Never seen or heard anyone playing guitar like he did. He was a genius!!!

  • Did he have really big hands or a really short scale length? That augmented stretch is hard brah.

  • from what i heard, his fingers were double jointed

  • It's stretchy hands

  • "and thats a real workout..." lol

  • Shawn Lane never died,he still alive.

  • Right on brotha.

  • some time ago, 11-12-15 was hard enough for me. shawn lane for the win.

  • His left hand looks like a tarantula crawling on the fretboard, on speed, but with only 4 legs ha ha

  • and thats a real workout... lmfao!

    hes fuunny

  • Holy FUCK!

  • this is beyond human possible

  • Comment removed

  • sorry everyone i didnt read the arguments, just got pissed off to see a lane video being trashed like it was, then sunk to that low myself.

I aint trying to start shit, i want the bullshit on videos to stop.

    All good, my apologies.

  • @blayze101

    No worries...

  • Wow, his technique was incredible

  • Now now kids, no arguing at the dinner table.

  • Long live Shawn Lane!

  • @Guitfiddlejase he past away, you idiot...

  • First of all, when a preson says"Long Live" they referring to a death...I DO suppose that "Shawn Lane Lives!" might have been more fitting...but how would you know?

You can't even spell "Passed" correctly.

    Oh,yeah!

    idiot.

  • It sounds more like you are the "pig" who thinks that a person is'nt allowed to say ANYTHING IN ANY LANGUAGE without being called an idiot....I thought this comment feed was about Shawn Lane-not you and whatever the FUCK you think correct protocol is....

    idiot.
