I have tried this sharpener now and my view is that yes you get your kitchen knives quite sharp but as always if you want hair shaving sharp you must learn how to sharpen by hand. So for kitchenknives is pretty ok but for your Spydercos etc...no thanks.
@fredde90210 It really depends on the blade shape and design, if its thin, then it may get it all, if it has a ricasso, thumb studs, a thicker grind, ect, then you may end up with a 1/4-1/3" unsharpened area, and on a small knife, lol, that could be a lot.
Sure can, it may be a little bit though, will try to get it in with the next sharpening ones I do. I have a couple of rods to review that I bought, so I will do it with that video.
Good review. while the bevel looked good and constant the actual edge looked pretty rough. I'm sure the manual ceramic helped that. Like ya said, best for beat up knifes.
The edge is actually pretty bur free, the ceramic helps more though you are right. And after a lot more use the diamonds get broke in and do that less.
On my entrek Survivor, it got to about 1/2" from the start of the handle. So it would be the same on others as well. But I am going to see if I can modify it to accept larger blades, and that should allow it to go all the way to the ricasso or choil of blades.
Oh I commented too soon, ceramic wheels huh, thats probably why this is nicer than what I ahve used before, also quick question, Im assuming the wheels are set on a single angle, if so what is it?
I have to sya I have yet to find an eletric sharpener that I really liked, maybes its been my choice of brands, but in the past eletric sharpeners just ate my blades...
Looks like a great product for those who use a lot of poor quality blades. That makes scence to me because they wont really care when the blades used up and it takes like no time to sharpen which you might have to do a lot.Great for a restaurant?-Joshua
Great for home, not just for inexpensive knives, it works great for the harder to sharpen steels like D2 and S30V. You just have to be careful with how many times you run it through the electric side, its easy to overdo it.
And once its broken in a little, it doesnt take as much steel.
Diamond in general takes a lot of steel compared to stones.
i bought the cheaper model from this company and it is garbage, all it did was totally screw up my knife

hi, I was just wondering how to sharpen serrated edges. do u just use a regular preset sharpener or stones or what?
xxdandan123 1 year ago
I use a diamond sharpening rod that is small and made for sharpening serrations.
QuietBearr 1 year ago
How would you sharpen serrated with this? just drag it through???
Shdw97 2 years ago
On the ceramic and the carbide V's. Not on the electric wheel.

Since you have done a bunch of sharpening videos I was wondering what is your personal favorite method of sharpening?
echodawg 2 years ago
Depends on the knife, usually stones, but for kitchen knives I am really liking this Diamond Edge Pro.
QuietBearr 2 years ago
Oh yea, and for blades with recurves, I use rods
QuietBearr 2 years ago
Can you do a vid on how to sharpen recurves? I was just about to buy one and wondering if sharpening was any different.
Shdw97 2 years ago
Sure can, it may be a little bit though, will try to get it in with the next sharpening ones I do. I have a couple of rods to review that I bought, so I will do it with that video.

i wanna see if you can mod it, does it hold the edge long? was thinking of getting it as a gift to my parents for christmas.
Shdw97 2 years ago
Yea I wana see too, we will see in the future.
Holds edge as long as I have tested it, edge holding is more dependent on the steel than the sharpener

Ok, you sold me. This thing is awesome.

How small of a blade can you sharpen?

I dont know, a ocuple inches?

how close can the sharpening wheels get from the bolters on folding knives before the guard prohibits it from taking the edge all the way down?

Sounds to me like you dont know how to use carbide sharpeners right.
You dont have to press down hard, just glide it over it.
And that is what it is on there for, to correct damage like nicks and dings. Not to sharpen.
QuietBearr 2 years ago
whats wrong with carbide? It is a well respected way of repairing damaged blades.
