I absolutely LOVE this opera, it is one of my most favorites. Completely amazing. I just wish though that aside from re-releasing it on DVD, that they would make a CD recording of this live performance! Oh how I would love to have it!! And being that it was in celebration of the Met's 100th Anniversary, I'm surprised that not more was done in this celebration, like releasing a CD collection of the opera. I'm glad it is at least available on the Met's site and on here because of you. :)

Actually there is also an old CD version of it (don't remember the format) and it's watchable on the Met's site for a fee.

Actually, they just did...as part of the DVD box set celebrating James Levine's 40th anniversary with the Met. It's available on the Met website, I believe.

This is so difficult to find in any form! I attended the Opera Theatre Saint Louis Festival and saw this last year. Truly wonderful opera.

this really IS one of the great masterpieces of american music.

the term "masterpiece" is far too easily bandied about on Youtube. it is nice to come across a video that truly merits the name.

I was lucky enough to see the premiere of this opera. it's an amazing experience

It is, isn't it? I'm surprised it's not produced more often - most likely due to the large cast and elaborate stage effects required. I was disappointed that the Met's planned revival with Angela Gheorghiu and Kristin Chenoweth was cancelled.
