  • the only thing that i hate about some post-metal/rock bands is this f-ing growling. No offense to those who really like it but i hate it. I like growls in metal but not this type. Anyway, this band's instrumental part is magnificent. I love it. I guess you start to respect and acknowledge music a different way after a few years of musical studies.

  • i have the album artwork tattooed on my outer wrist

  • to say that Fall of Efrafa, Cult of Luna, Isis, Pelican, and Neurosis are all branches of the same tree is not a stupid comment.

  • dumbass retards this is before gayass unoriginal lady gaga! shes stupid attenntion getter that music sux

  • Comment removed

  • Jesus I love this song.

  • One of the best bands out there

  • For the first time I think the word "epic" is almost justified.

  • omg, I fuckng love this.

  • Fall Of Efrafa is exactly like this

  • @NuMetalGrunge i was lucky enough to see their last US tour with Protestant at LoD in Columbus, OH. They blew my mind and it was awesome. Black Dove played that night too. It was amazing.

  • @NuMetalGrunge I was lucky enough to see their last US tour with Protestant at LoD in Columbus, OH. They blew my mind and it was awesome.

  • @NuMetalGrunge lol @ that. seeing your name makes me believ that you didnt mean it seriously, because you dont have any clue about this kind of music.

if im worng, proove me wrong. but saying FoE is like CoL just shows off pure dumbness.

  • @LifevsMusic i dont listen to numetal!! check my favorites. and yeah they sound similar to me. i think they sound very similar, this song at least, their vocals are almost identical, and the guitar tones they have are quite the same. excuse my english if any was wrong

  • @NuMetalGrunge its not important if you listen to nu metal or not. i can tell that you have no clue without knowing which music you like.

the vocals are not the same.

CoL uses much more falsechord distortion.

FoE sounds more like vocal chord distortion.

    thats a huge difference...

and whats also important, CoL has more reverb in the whole music.

and... well. the guitar tones? are you kiddin?

the guitar tones of FoE are also simliar to Regurgitate.

and btw. do you hear any d-beat in CoL?

  • @LifevsMusic I was just stating my opinion. Sorry about whatever happened in your life that made you feel like you have to prove yourself to everybody, even if its over the internet. I suggest therapy. This will be my last post in this useless argument with a useless, no-life youtuber. Bye :)

  • @NuMetalGrunge so 'FoE and CoL are exactly the same.' is a subjective state... well, then...

    i dont prove myself.

and i dont see, why you think, that i proove myself.

you suggest thearapy? you are either think that youre funny, but youre attempt of using sarcasm is an enormous fail, or you are really serious, which would mean, that you are either a bad psychatrist, or a sadly unintelligent guy.

  • @LifevsMusic Pretty pathetic, dude.

  • brilliant!

  • damn loved it after I heard the first ten seconds

  • awesomeness

  • lmao, they're copying lady gaga? Are you on any type of medication? If so, then stop taking it, if not then go see your doctor about getting some.

  • everyone who sounds like this copied Neurosis and/or Breach. This sounds way more like Neurosis than ISIS

  • curious

  • @r0inconnu lol, curiousis. :D

  • fudido demais

  • Sound a lot like ISIS. Some layered sounds and the primal screaming.....good to see more bands playing this sound.

  • For sure one of the greatest videos ever. Just kinda sucks, cause this album isn't great. The Beyond is definitely their best.

  • reminds me of Isis, which is a very good thing

  • @KristianWGeorge Yes i think so too , alot like Isis , at least this song.

  • Wow this band is really talented.

  • it isn't something like post metal ?

  • screamo, new metal?, what the hell its wrong with that kind of comments, you should investigate about sluge, stoner, and doom metal or listening to bands like saturnus, katatonia, opeth and then understand the sound of this band .

  • dude i fucking love these vocals. wtf are you guys talking about? lunaitcs. XD

  • new metal

  • @kapitanXsova new metal????/ wtf???? retarded

  • @kapitanXsova get fucking educated you moron.

  • why are everyone calling them lady gaga clones lol? just because something's artsy doesn't mean it has anything to do with lady gaga you fucking assholes. jesus fucking christ.

  • @Deadmeatproductions

Haha, if lazy blabla sounded like this, i would have her album in my collection, but it is not for her music sucks (even though i like her being arty farty) in contrary to this brilliant evocation of emotion.

  • aw thats too bad i like the instrumental but i cant stand screamo :( no real vocal talent. such a shame.

  • it's not screamo

  • @BlackStar13xxx Yeah I really don't like the song either, it's too usual with nice metal bands with lack of good vocals. But I guess it's kinda hard to make vocals fit to this kind of music and still sound good.

  • @vaedjan OMFG this is the most retarded comment I've heard. WTF?

  • @BlackStar13xxx u should read about sludge and post-metal

  • @BlackStar13xxx This sounds incredible, and it is definitely not screamo.

  • @BlackStar13xxx what????? damn how I hate kids commenting in vids without knowing wtf they are talking about. Screamo????? holy crap!!!!

  • While I can't decipher the vocal track, the emotion presented in this song is EXACTLY what I feel right now. Pure anger, pure hate. Pure fucking emotion.

  • CULT OF LUNA IS AMAZING, maybe opeth too

  • wow! first time hearing Cult of Luna, i love isis, baroness, this is just epic. nother great find, took too long

  • Are you all fucking retarded? How are they copying lady gaga? this came out in 200fucking7. morons.

  • epic masterpiece

  • Check out Breach if you dig this band.

  • Tune.

  • lady gaga clones

  • @Ryanjelly22 you better stop smoking that shit, your brain its melting down

  • classic.

  • @efcbluepirate

the song is six years old.. unlikely?

  • check out underground band celestial machine on myspace

  • shroom to luna 4ever

  • Beautiful, sad, tortured music, and eerie video clip. I got goosebumps.

  • Since I have seen this video I can not stop asking myself how I could live my live for so long without knowing and listening to this band!

  • Isis sounds nothing like Cult of Luna

  • @arsenal8127 You mean Cult of Luna sounds nothing like Isis.

  • This sounds like terminator soundtrack heavy fucking metal hahaha YES!

  • so awesome. like a weird nightmare.

  • my absolut favorite...for the last few month..i heard it first one year ago...salvation is...suicide music....that s what i want to hear just when i m leaving....

  • They freaking rock, the music ain't sold out and it's got brains, why are you people all bitching like fuck for?

  • Awesome band. Just had to buy another copy of eternal kingdom to get the fire is born dvd. wish it had a proper uk release.

  • mmmm i dunno...

  • Pffft. More like Simple Plan. Cult of SoundslikeSimplePlan.

  • you are also a moron.

  • @stitchbay

    Lulz at sarcasm.

  • a copy of blink 182? .... you are a moron.

  • @MsDanielpowell someone actually said it's a copy of blink? AHAHAHAAHAHAHAahahahahahahhah !!! :D :D :D Amazing :)

  • @MsDanielpowell lol can't you smell the troll?

  • oh my bad, if you were being sarcastic..

  • MMMMROWNNN.

  • awesome :D

  • its the plethora of the indistinct variety in the diminence. such procaterionism only makes matters highly unregardable that plural singular and other such ditinctiveness smulters the only opportunity of churning distermintaion

  • what?

  • rofl, i was being an elitist like many people here

  • thankyou so much for inventing music theory you guys, i don't know where i'd be without your closed minds and idiotic banter. plebians.

  • the theory was there before the music, people just didn't realise that what they were writing was very formulated.

  • You guys are so lame, just get on with it. Listen to it or dont. Both great bands. People need to stop this bullshit about music and just appreciate it there!

  • Comment removed

  • This song is so damn great, I can't stop listen to it.

  • post metal

  • Cult of Luna are the best.

  • au man das rockt wie die Hölle...

my dear...incredible...this one feels like fine red wine...

  • great song

  • I wonder why all progressive metal band are producing videos that are really strange and really hard to understand the point of...

...no matter why, it's still the best genre in the world, period!

  • it is all relative. If you dont find any meaning in it move along. But to those that do, take from and learn a little more of your existance. Know what i mean?

    NO? good move along lol

  • Of course it is all relative.

Unless I am god, which I'm not, my opinion is highly subjective, right? Now that we have established that I'm not god and that my opinion is NOT the objective truth, it is highly likable that someone other than me might understand, or believe themselves to understand, this video.

All I'm saying is that I tend not to understand progressive metal videos and I simply wondered why ;D

  • i like u. ur cool pwnd

  • @itix1

    Tool thinks the same....

Oh sorry, my bad, I think the same bout Tool's videos.. freaking weird.

  • It's not progressive metal, fail.

  • Sure it is. Post-metal/sludge is a subgenre to progressive metal

  • No, it isn't at all. Post(-metal, -rock, -core) is a musical movement. Sludge is a genre. Cult of Luna are Post-Metal/Sludge, ok, but thery're not a subgenre to prog metal.

  • @Voices90

That's like saying that Post-Rock ain't the new "prog rock"..

This is prog, even if it's genre doesn't have the "prog" word on it

  • Prog rock is still alive, and it's another thing. This is post-metal/sludge, nothing else.

  • man this is ambiental prog metal.. nothing else

  • Lol. You just don't know what you're talking about. Ambiental prog metal? Ahahahaha. Where did you read this, on Wikipedia? Lol, "ambiental" made me rofl really hard.

  • well even if wikipedia had me informed about this, that's what POST METAL stands for partner.. do some research maybe before trying to invent any definitions; cause you don't seem to know much either

  • Why do you need to define Post Metal as something else that's most known? It is a genre, stop. Progressive metal is another genre, as Black metal is, as Death metal is, and so on. I know perfectly what i'm talking about, and trust me, talking about music Wikipedia is the worst thing in the world. Many people make mistakes defining musical genres, but the problem is that these people feel free to write their definitions on Wikipedia, and often moderators make mistakes too correcting users.

  • Oh, another thing. Why prog rock? post metal has growl/low-scream vocals, prog rock has not. post metal has very heavy low-tune riffs, prog rock has not. post metal/sludge is very slow and dark, prog rock is not. post metal has very heavy post-rock influence, prog rock has not. Just because both genres have very long songs? Man, this is not enough. Is there something else in common between them? Please, tell me.

  • @Voices90

just take a look at Opeth, or at most progressive death metal bands, they share many bonds with post metal... and it's still prog.

but hey, anyway who cares... you don't have to see this the way I do.. for me, this is prog music, in the same way that new metal, is still metal.. just my opinion

  • Opeth don't share anything with post metal but growl. Just focus on each instrument, and you'll se that common points are just a few. Anyway I think that you're a little bit confused about genres, cause you said that CoL are post-rock, then ambiental prog metal and now post metal. You just can't mix these genres as if they were the same thing. And "ambiental prog metal" is neither a genre. And if you really want to rely upon wikipedia... Neither there "post metal" is defined as subgenre to prog.

  • @Voices90

ok, so i just tried to cool it down but you don't seem to like that option.

So first of all, I never said they were post rock, nor ambiental prog, i said they were post metal, and then said post metal is like ambiental prog metal, by this I was never stating that genre even existed.

It was just an hypothetical comparison; like stating that prog rock is rock's "classical" because it has a more evolutive structure... this doens't state CLASSICAL music exists when it comes to rock.

  • @Voices90

Then... Opeth does share way more than growls with post metal, like the low-tuned riffs, and the ambiental parts (which are part of Opeth's essence).

Then... that "you're only relying upon wikipedia" thing, is all in your imagination, since I never said that. I know well wikipedia ain't got it right, and you seemed to know that too,

till you started creating an argument which is based on wikipedia's definition of post metal

  • Ok, I'm just wasting my time, anyway, last post: 1) you cannot make a comparison between a genre and something that doesn't exist. 2) death metal also has low-tune riffs and growl. Doom metal too. Are they post metal? No. 3) The wikipedia thing... I just said that neither wikipedia agrees with you, and in this case wiki's definition is pretty much correct. So cut it out, you're wrong, you don't know what you're talking about, you got your pride wounded and you're just grasping at straws. Bye.

  • why the fuck can't you make such a comparison? it's not that hard to picture, ambiental metal? i mean you really gotta try harder partner, it's not impossible to imagine, after all that fucking "name of the gender" is just a tag, absolute bullshit, which is something that CLEARLY does not define post rock. what is there in common between 65daysofstatic and Don Caballero? anyway they are still labelled as Post Rock and Math Rock.. so just try harder.

  • besides, I'm the one who's pride is wounded?? "Are they post metal? no". man, that IS a wounded pride.

Then we should never apply the term post-metal to this, cause after all, it isn't metal... well that's the shit you're saying.

Now "i'm just wasting my time, so bye"

  • Honestly, there is little similarity between this song and Opeth. You just don't know exactly what elements make Opeth progressive, and then you mix it up with their death metal elements. Guitar riffs are very different in how they are constructed and put together into the song, drumming patterns, singing too. Youtube doesn't allow me to write a full length post about it, all I can urge you to do is to listen to both bands very carefully and you will hear the difference loud and clear.

  • I also kind of disagree on your idea of what ambience is. A breakdown is not necessarily ambient just because it may appear as atmospheric. Then a lot of music would be classified as ambient. What makes ambience ambience is the very idea to create these sort of feelings deliberately, the feeling being in the center, not the music itself. I would argue that neither Opeth nor CuL have that as a goal with their music, hence dubbing it as ambient isn't entirely correct imo.

  • the "atmospheric", or ambiental parts, as I'd rather call them, are even different.

You can't say blackwater park has no ambiental stuff on it, and I mean the album, not the song :P.

What I'm trying to say is that both bands have reached similar... goals? (if it can even be called like that), by doing totally different things.

and what the band decides to create, deliberately, won't be what defines their label..

I mean, Steven Wilson from Porcupine Tree says they are no prog.. wtf

  • last one, I know I said they share many elements with CuL, but basically it depends on the angle of your approach. When you reach it superficially, they do have lots of common, like the low tuned riffs and the growls.

Obviously if you scratch deeper it differs greatly; I'm aware of that.

But somehow they seem to me to be in the "same mood", if you get what I mean.

It's obvious they r different, but among all different things, these two share many superficial aspects..

  • I know there is little similarity between this song and Opeth, basically, the things I stated earlier are ones of the few they've got in common.

I totally know what makes Opeth a progressive band, the first time i got into them, was thanks to prog music.

Stating that low tuned riffs and growls are things in common is way to abstract; most of the metal I've ever listened, has low tuned riffs; this doesn't make all metal bands the same.

Opeth and Cult Of Luna have little in common

  • way TOO abstract*, sorry.

  • Cult of Luna are way more related to Neurosis, Isis, and bands of that ilk than they are Opeth.

  • @michealdark

I know that, those bands are totally more related, since their genre is the same...

My point with Opeth was to make a comparison with a band that has little in common, at least if you scratch way down to the center of it, but that anyway has some common things.

  • Oops. Sorry, I just read the first page of comments, so didn't get the whole conversation. My bad.

  • opeth is FUCKING AMAZING

  • @sk8fr3ak14 opeth are my favourite band of all time, so fuck yes!!! xD

  • @sk8fr3ak14 I can't argue with that. I think the 3 greatest metal bands ever hail from sweden; (in no particular order) opeth, cult of luna, meshuggah

  • opeth is my 3rd favorite band, meshuggah is great, and im just getting into cult.. they're pretty good to. swedish metal bands are some of the most creative and talented mutherfuckers out there

  • it won't be long before they take over your life... they're probably my favourite band of the 3. saw them live in paris and they blew me away, and then some

  • He's right that's ambiental metal...

How would you call the break at 1:12?

ambiental prog metal, i agree, just like Isis

  • "ambiental metal" fits with CoL's music, but it's not a genre. you just can't say that something is "ambiental", because "ambient music" is completely another thing. and prog metal is another thing too. it has odd time measures, virtuosities (I hope i wrote it right) and prog songs are so long because they are often split in many movements, just like classical music. post metal songs are long because post metal is a slow and ripetitive genre (notably if there are sludge influences).

  • If you had to do a typical myspace 3 genre placement. it would be sludge, down-tempo, expirimental.

thats your best way of hitting any typical genre names like *metal* or *altern* while having a more descriptive and accurate sense of description.

Honestly it doesnt really fucking matter. The band is good. All the bands Ive read that you all cheer are great so theres no competition among us. were all level and smiles. those who disagree need to cut their hair and realize metal sweaters are gay.

  • You understand them, when in a certain state of consciousness ;)

  • the screaming with the delay with indie sound sounds amazing, like a hardcore version of minus the bear

  • this band is really good

  • very nice

  • Beatiful

  • What numbnut has been giving every comment a thumbs down?

  • this song isn't post metal but there other stuff is. one of my favorite bands ever. love these guys, in fact i've been listening to them non stop for a couple months now

  • loooooooooooooool

  • are you fucking me? get off the internet please.

  • uuuuu....

  • Decent stuff, but i cant find it anywhere to buy or download... any suggestions? other than buying onlie...

  • It's easy to find a download. Just Google "Cult of Luna - (album name) site:mediafire(dot)com"

Or, you can do it with MegaUpload instead of MediaFire.

  • Look harder.

  • without words....neorosis, isis and ....cult of luna....pelican....

  • Very passionate music. I love the clean sections so much.

  • simply the greatest song. I cannot stop listening to it, great vocals, amazing instrumental, and full of doom and gloom. Awesome.

  • and don't forget Mouth oh the architect and Overmars!

  • best music video I've seen in a while!

  • Are u stupid or something? I dont really know, but he doesn't sounds like gaylord matt heafy, he has a great, deep and hard voice.

  • Wow, alot of comments here are giving Cult of Luna some deserved love ... nice to see that. Don't forget to support The Ocean, Pelican, Red Sparowes, Rosetta(personal favorite) Russian Circles, Giant Squid, Kayo Dot, Envy ... those are the heavy sided bands ... check out as many as you can and continue to support art in extreme music!

  • Pff, dont forget Isis xD

  • Totally agree with you! Metal has also his "indie" side....

I would recommend some other bands: Hull,Balboa,Dark Castle,5ive,Big Bussines, Torche,Zoroaster, Black Cobra,Callisto ,The Fuckin Wrath, Trap Them, Planes Mistaken For Stars,Cursed,Unearthly Trance, Burst ,Black Mountain ....

  • fucking love it! up there with Pelican,Isis and Rosetta for sure :D

  • im going to europe in the spring i was trying to find out if they are doing doing any shows and if they are when and were if anyone knows please post

  • I'm so fucking proud to be from Sweden all of a sudden : P

  • dude! I want to visit your country !!! I think I could see a lot of bans performing in bars or something! and of course I'd like to see Opeth live in Sweeden!

  • Nothing good ever comes out of Czech Republic.

    I sad.

  • What? There's been plenty of good stuff to come out of the Czech Republic. You just have to do research, something that a lot of people don't do. I don't know how people could NOT do some research about their music and find new stuff.

Master's Hammer is a great band from the Czech Republic. Also one of the earliest black metal bands.

  • if people are much into this, they should check out on Fall Of Efrafa, Envy, Oroku and Ekkaia.

There is a little and pleasant handfuld of bands mixing extreme genres with ambience and post-rock,

  • Thank God Cult of Luna started playing music.

Wait, there is no God. My b, guys.

  • Thank God for atheism. ;]

  • Post metal mixes calmer sounds with guttural vocals, it's not considered to be experimental rock but there is some science going on.

    Anyway, best band evarr!

  • That is not what post metal is.

  • Oh, sorry, enlight me mr.

  • I would say this is experimental yeah, the much calmer guitar sounds with screaming over it, you don't hear that much.

  • when did this come out? is it so experimental?

  • this is art...

  • your face is art

  • yeah... i know :P

  • Swedish bands are always amazing
