i have done all of the above..turned on ps3 and the media sharing..but the program cannot find my ps3..i had problems similar with my old samsung share once i changed my router to the one i have..it's a modem/router all in one..any thoughts?

also i forgot to mention,when it is copying the movies,it shows how much is downloaded as it downloads,but im confused,everytime i do it,like the newest 7 gig movie for example,why is it showing 70 something gigs b4 the movie is done in the copy progress bar? i know it does the original media file and the transcoded but that doesnt equal 70 gigs and i dont think when its all done it actually takes 70 gigs so why is it saying that?

i have a question about ps3 media.when i try and play movies from my pc, especially large ones,its very choppy so instead i copy them to the ps3 so it doesnt happen.the problem is,it takes almost 16 hours for a 7 gig movie to do it,is that normal?im using a wireless connection to the ps3 so i understand a little slow but 16 hours? is there something i can do to boost both the streaming or the copying of the media?i have a 20 mgbs internet speed

i got a PS3 for xmas and i intalled that soft right away so i can have access to my movies in the living, however, i noticed that when i'm watching 1080p's sometimes it gets very choppy, i'm currently using the wireless connection and i'm wondering if its because of that. i will be drilling the floor 2morrow but i just wanted to know beforehand if anyone else had the same problem before and if it was resolved by using hardwire connection.

That's exactly what this is, you hook both up to your network and use this as the server. You HAVE to have a media server (such as this or wmp etc) or it will not work. However this is the best software I have seen for transcoding most formats, including .mkvs

No. sorry. The only way to do such thing is to have a certified Sony phone, laptop or PSP that uses what they call "Remote Play".

Seriously, *Excellent* tutorial, I was really intimidated by this PS3 media server thing until your video. My only question (and I apologize if it's been asked) is about embedded (as in subbed to be part of the video?) subtitles. Will they show? So far I've only watched movies on PS3 but since I'm a big anime fan, I'd love to be able to play them there too. Any advice? Also, perhaps I'm dumb but can't see your contact info?

@darklight74 This only streams media TO your ps3 and nothing else. What your wanting to do is called Remote Play, and is only available on Sony products, (ie VAIO, PSP, Ericsson).

@PrAnG2000 What if somebody is deaf, or doesn't have any pc speakers hooked up, or don't want to bother waking up others in the middle of the night for a simple tutorial that can easily be explained with words. What if the poster doesn't have a microphone, or cant speak English very well, or want to keep their identity hidden for some reason, I could go on. There are lots of reasons.

Your English is very good sir. If you don't have pc speakers, use cheap headphones and that won't wake anybody up. Or don't try and view it at night, do it in the day. As for the voice, there are plenty of progs that can disguise that.

The only one of your suggestions I go with is being deaf. The rest are pretty lame IMO. ;-)
