One of the worst suspensions ever in terms of how wrong they got it. I know he wasn't playing the game honorably, but it didn't deserve four fucking games. I'd have been fine with 1 game. 4 games would be the right amount of time if the guy was just flat out sucker punched. He wasn't. It was borderline at most. I love how people agree with the suspension based on that it was Carcillo and that it was the Flyers.
Take those away, and you'll see it was a fight that just had a very quick ending. Even the commentators said that Bradley dropped his gloves to fight and made the intention, and that Carcillo was just quick on the draw.
It should have been two for cross-checking on Carcillo, five for fighting for both. Done. Instead, Carcillo got a suspension for being Carcillo.

Why he got the suspension was simple: because he's Dan Carcillo.
If this had somehow been the darling of the NHL, Crosby, there would have been no suspension.
Carcillo has a reputation in the NHL, deserved or not. So when he does something that *might* be an issue, he's guilty just because it's him.
That's why he got the suspension. Almost all other players in the NHL would have gotten, at most, the game misconduct. The "bad boys" get the book thrown at them.
