There have been people exhibiting themselves on freakshows who look like SKELLETONS because of mutations... It's fully possible that she's like this by nature. I don't care about Models or stuff like that at all, I think most of them look too generic or downright ugly, and I don't like the message that modeling sends to ppl, but this girl is different (just consider her backstory - I was a victim of mobbing myself (Not because of my looks, tough. Im admittedly ugly, but... normal ugly)
This girl just has something fascinatingly alien about her. She's, in a way, attracting and repulsing at the same time, almost borderline inhuman - this may sound very negative, but this makes it imposible to look away from her and gives her a sort of beauty that goes beyond sexual attractiveness. She creates fascination.
To address the slew of negativity here. Skinny, fat, short, tall, Ann is a human being. I can guarantee anyone that there are better uses of your time than to insist that the woman is anorexic, a whore, scary, whatever, who cares? Her life does not impact yours.
It's tall but not exceptional, not ik Holland anyway. Loads of very tall people, men and women. My neighbour, she is 1.85 and not the tallest woman in my circle of friend. I am short though at 1.52 ;)
She's a beautiful girl, but it looks as though she suffers from Marfan's Syndrome, a genetic disorder that causes tallness, elongation of the limbs, and an awkward gait. If you watch Episode 1 they show a brief clip of her brother, he has the exact same features.
my friend is about 100 pds shes 18 and she 5'6-5'7 she eats like a man and a starved dog and those people who want to be 600pds all put together -___- lol that lucky whore ...anyways i guess she has something wrong with her thyroid gland or something like that ..and it just runs in the family all the girls are skinny and then after the first born kid BOOM! its pay back time ...some ppl are just naturally skinny ..and telling ppl theyre wrong for being skinny is contradicting in a way
But her figure, her body looks really bad. I think woman should have more weight than here. Even if she cant get some weight that easily, there are enough medical ways to gain some healthier weight!

I'm not claiming to be a Doctor but I did several years of premed and nutrition in college. But I'm not on here to defend my view point as a person. One of my main points was that by choosing a person with an abnormally low bmi, even if she is healthy, it sends the message to other models and women in general that this is the body to emulate.
@amaikuma I respect your opinion, but had to post some relevant information: According to the American Psychiatric Association, people who suffer from anorexia usually have an underlying personality disorder. They're ultimate goal is control of their enviourment, not thinness itself. Also, 66% of American's are overweight (34% are catagorized as obese) and under 3% have an eating disorder. If the media/fashion industry truely influence us that much wouldn't these numbers be different?
@jkblockins Inaddition to what you wrote binge eating over eating not bulemia is the #1 eating disorder. I guess it all come from the interpretation of the data. In all eating disorders there is an element of self soothing, control is a main aspect in the abstaining from food, but dealing with emotions and trying to deal with anxiety is a main component of binge eating.
@jkblockins Our society celebrates one end of the unhealthy spectrum as in unnaturally low BMIs we shun those larger than the healthy BMI heart disease and other problems plague the underweight as well as the over weight. I wont begging to say that Americas fat problem has just one cause but self destructive eating is tied to self esteem and not fitting the image of what women should look like surely must negatively contribute to that.
The beautiful thing about Ann, is that she has a certain uniqueness that I love. Especially her smile, its what lights up her face! OMG would people STOP!!!!! There are actually people that have trouble gaining weight. I know several people, my sister included that is very thin and has tried to gain weight and can't. My best friend is like this as well and she says it is just as hurtful to her to be call to thin and anorexic as it is when someone who has an extra 20 lbs on is called fat. @mahalcat - if some one has problems gaining weight in spite of eating a lot, that could be a sign of Hyperthyroidism - an over-active thyroid. I'd recommend a blood test. My brother has it and some of the other symptoms started causing him trouble.

OMG would people STOP!!!!! There are actually people that have trouble gaining weight. I know several people, my sister included that is very thin and has tried to gain weight and can't. My best friend is like this as well and she says it is just as hurtful to her to be call to thin and anorexic as it is when someone who has an extra 20 lbs on is called fat. Human being come in all shapes and sizes why can this not be celebrated.

@mahalcat - if some one has problems gaining weight in spite of eating a lot, that could be a sign of Hyperthyroidism - an over-active thyroid. I'd recommend a blood test. My brother has it and some of the other symptoms started causing him trouble.

just because someone is thin you shouldn't automatically assume that they're unhealthy ok? I've dealt with people calling me anorexic before and it hurt. In reality I just had a fast metabolism. I actually probably ate more than most of my friends and I wouldn't gain a pound o.O. So please just stfu. You don't know her, you don't know that she's anorexic or whatever so you shouldn't assume that.

Disgusting. When it looks like our culture is finally moving forward away from glorifying the images of women suffering slow and painful deaths I see this. Maybe its a response to Christina Hendrix and other celebrities that are starting to make a more healthy media. Maybe this is a back lash for the recent movement to end near death looking anorexic models, that followed several model deaths.

This girl does not stave herself to be this thin, she probably has a high metabolism. My sister is like this she eats like a horse and can't gain weight, she is very thin but it is not her fault.

To me she is beautiful for being thin slender body just like Queen Latifah is beautiful is for being curvy and voluptuous. @amaikuma Sorry to disappoint you, but I can speak for me (+experience) and from medical point of view that there are people on this planet who can eat as much as they want but they do not get more weight. I know american burger eating computer nerds do not know this but we models do and meds do. She is thin ok, but it is for the people to decide not for some jerks who think they know alot about health and BMI from long body and heavy boned humans.

@kanischkaa my friend has this condition, she's really skinny and doesn't gain weight no matter how much she eats, but she still looks healthy... Ann Ward however doesnt. the other models compared to her could be considered "fat" ... why do models have to be thin anyway? isnt it ok to be of normal weight? why do super skinny people have to be promoted like this, so young girls want to look the same?

I think ann's body is natural. maturity of body changes start @ 20 according to the study i read when i was a teenager too.. but the body changes the way we take care of it and what we eat as well. thanks blixex for agreeing too. I'm happy for Ann. God bless.

The next top model was suppose to "promote a healthier model appearance" ...ann your pretty but too skinny i can't even look at your body just makes me want to eat food. people can criticize me all they want or thumb me down but i happen to see this article today and boy was i disgusted. @kenjoje but not that thin!!! Her BMI is 13. One criterion for a diagnosis of anorexia is a BMI of 17,5, which is much more than hers.

@goebigoebi first things first, you should know that this calculations are pointless because same height/weight ratio doesn't look the same on everyone because some people have heavier bones than others. other thing, I will repeat, if she eats normaly she isn't anorexic - definition of it is eating disorder, she is just someone who is extremely thin, I don't say that she shouldn't have more pounds/kg but as someone said, they throw out of competition some anorexic people
