I am very happy for Google and for us Android users. The sheer number and "TYPES" of patents that Google got from Motorola could actually contain mobile computing technology that Apple and Microsoft will have to start paying royalties for. If Google takes the high road they will simply point these out to their competition , while remaining focused on keeping Android alive and kickin. Didn't Motorola make the PowerPC's for all Mac computers prior to Apple going the Intel route ?

Google saved them all by buying this. (HTC, Motorola, Samsung etc) Microsoft was trying to buy Motorola for the patents & if Google didn't buy them, MSFT would've shut down Android. They'd squeeze Android and make it so expensive, manufactures would stop supporting it. Apple and MSFT have already worked together with the Nortel patents. They want to shut Android down completely. This is why Apple and MSFT are evil. They want you to have no choice but Apple and Windows.

@HANDSOMELOME Dang man. I don't like Apple so much either since they release little updates yearly that're considered groundbreaking and earth shattering. They took 3 yrs to give video recording ability, 4 for "official" wallpaper, we spend so much resources trying to block the jailbreaks, and if it wasn't for Android and it's manufactures, you would've never seen a screen bigger than 3.5". That being said. Calm down with the caps my friend. It's all good. The consumer wins.

What they need to do,is basically take there time. Stop throwing out phones every 3 months and take your time, to make one that can actually compete. Something thats easy and user friendly the entire way. Instead picking a fight with apple..and calling all the kids(consumers) around to see them get there tail tapped on the playground (market) take your time and create something that focus' on the public.

Well I own an Iphone4 and while it certainly is a nice phone, it's not anywhere near as good as the hype has made it seem, if they must copy Apple, they should focus on copying their marketing ! I also own and ipad2 and Acer Iconia... I'm very excited about where Android is heading (much more than IOS) and this purchase just proves how serious they are.... lets hope they are able to keep HTC/Samsung etc on board, they esp need those 2 companies for market share ! PS: my next ph is Android !

Of course the iPhone outperforms most dual core Androids. iPhone is just a portal for apps. If Androids were simply squares on a screen, w/o widgets, open source options, customization, multiple home screens, etc, they might perform better. Flash back to 2008, the only reason Android really popped off because everyone either wanted an iPhone, but was on a different carrier then at&t or hated the iPhone, but wanted a close enough experience to it. Look at old blogs, what did droid users want? "pinch-to-zoom", apps and a touch screen slab. Samsung, Moto and HTC was using God awful rest-touch screens and shitty WM or their sad so called OS. Google brought everything that apple has to these co.

If Google copied iOS, then Apple copied HP iPaq cuz it has a touch screen. There isn't a single Android device as quality as iPhone? That's not my experience. Google copied Apple's widgets? What widgets? Apples didn't even used to have flashes. Apple is simply a postal for apps, squares on a screen. It's the tract home of high-end phones.

they both have 1 steering, 4 wheels, 1 almost similar engine, ...etc.

but we never confuse those cars despite all of the similarities + we never accuse one of the manufacturers by copying from the other BECAUSE they r using the SAME underlying physics but with a different outer shell :D

I thought you'd be a little more enthusiastic about this, haha. The patents alone are probably worth the 12.5 mil., especially since some reports are saying that Microsoft wanted Mot also. I would bet that Google uses Mot to at least develop the "concept" phones it wants, especially for the Nexus brand, and use that as a BIG stick to get want it wants from the other OEM's. :)

I'm gonna argue here... they didn't copy. Yes Android is heavily influenced by iOS, but to go as far as saying it "copied" is rather slanderous. A grid of icons was very popular with Nokia's Symbian and Java phones. All you had t do was hit menu. The LG Prada was also a grid of icons. Will you say Apple copied them?
