  • Wow your an amazing player! would be soo amazing if you could teach us vibrato :)

  • lmfao

  • Can't wait to try this at school on Monday

  • OMG IT'S CHEWBACCA!

  • i thought this was something to do with metal -_-

  • what kind of sax is that?

  • cheeeers dude... tooo feckin coooool... gonna take this out on my clarinet... any tips for liquorice stick?

  • @lsdvine Do it! Clarinetists deserve the growl just as much as the rest of us. The concepts are exactly the same: Using your lips; flutter tonguing (like rolling your Rs at tongue tip); and growling (rolling Rs at back of tongue), and singing through the mouthpiece while playing. Either way, there's really no limit to the nastiness we reed players are capable of. Just keep experimenting.

  • that was a kool tip!

  • @rayray50005000 Thanks for watching.

  • Man I wish I could play the blues like that.

  • Trying this so hard and all I keep during is going hoarse. Any other little tidbit of info to help?

  • Thanks

My teacher told me to hum while playing and that didnt work so ill try this

  • @Scar5999 Let me know if it helps! Thanks for watching

  • @Scar5999 humming works better on tenor... and you have to "OOH" the right note with your voice to get the maximum growl. For an even bigger growling effect,

1.literally growl, going "khhhh", as if you were getting conjection out of the throat. Your throat may hurt if you do too much.

2.go with flutter tonguing... which isn't quite "growling", and something you can't do if you can't roll the spanish R. I can't do it lol

  • @Scar5999 My band teacher told me to hum aswell and I didn't get results either. Maybe it just isn't an effective method?

  • awesome :D

  • @BlackOp458 Thanks for checking it out, Cheers

  • I roll My tongue While Blowing And I Still Get The Same Effect

  • Perfect! There's always more ways. Glad you found one that works for you.

  • @kcandfen Alot of people say that you can basically just overblow. Does that work? Like, is it essentially overblowing?

  • @SenorrBoom I think my girlfriend said that to me once.

  • @SenorrBoom Are you sure its not a fludder tounge??

  • @BlackOp458 Yes I Think i Might Be confusing the two methods , but if done with a certain way of humming it simulates growling

  • Great video!! You get a high five for it... *clap* :-D

It seems that there are two techniques for a growl, yours one with the lips or making noises with your throat .

But what happens if you put these two growl techniques together? :-)

    can´t wait to try ;-)

    Kepp playin´, your growl rocks!

  • Glad you dig it. We have a few other saxophone videos that you might enjoy. Check em out.

High 5 back at you! Cheers

  • WOW really nice! it's just really simple and basic. haha i'm currently in year 8 and i'm going through the exact same thing as you did ;) but just a question arent growling about making noises with your throat and then implementing that into normal playing? good video btw :D really helped me out

  • I have never used my throat to create effects on saxophone, but that gives me some good ideas. Thanks for watching. Cheers, M

  • I am so glad it worked for you! Keep playin'!

  • In just a matter of seconds after watching this video, I was able to growl like a professional! I did what you demonstrated but with less brrrrrrrr.. If you know what I mean. =)

  • Some sax tricks....lol

    Sorry I've a dirty mind =P

But for reals, I wanna learn the sax now =)

  • Ha! Well, hopefully you find some of the other saxophone lessons helpful on the channel. Cheers!

  • Awesome man, if i could i would rate this 5 stars........ because your technique on growling is different than the other teachers i had teaching me how to growl. This is awesome and fun!!! Good Luck in the future dude. Long live the saxophones!!!!
