It's acutally a "landspout". Hard to tell the difference but the cloud it's formed from is not a storm just a chruning cumulus cloud, almost more rare to see real landspouts than real tornadoes.

Its up on the Navajo Reservation in August, and that can be tourist packed roads with people from everywhere but Chinle. Those people can barely drive a car anyway and put them on unfamiliar roads. I think I'd stay right where I was. Half the people driving were probably too busy trying to get their GPS to show the map of an area no one has data for, and the other half had their head buried in a paper map. Then you have the 10% who are local and are too laid back to get excited. Navajos r cool

This tornado is what is known as a landspout. They are usually weak tornadoes and move very slowly and don't do a lot of damage in most cases.

it is still unclear that pollution causes tornadoes but tornadoes certainly can cause pollution. but tonadoes form when cold polar air meets warm tropical air. these rotating thunderstorms are also known as supercells. the result is a great instability caused by the rising warm air.
