  • OMG, sigh, just found this in my vinyls. What a pleasant surprise to revisit. sigh ;)

  • UP THE BLADES!

  • I wish I had grown up in the 80s, they looked like such fun times.

  • Oddly, this song was ripped off the Griswalds, a little known psychobilly band from England... Bastards!

  • Lets all just hope some young british artists of every aspect of art take over every aspect of the entertainment industry again. Those were the most interesting times. :P

  • Thumbs up if you're here because of David Tennant! *fangirl squeal*

  • "Happy Hour was a complete rip-off of I Want The One I Can't Have and they've nicked others too" ~ Johnny Marr

  • @vlo12 They have the same guitar sound, that's about it. Plus this song doesn't have that awful misthanthropic c unit 'singing' over it!

  • phil jupitas reading the paper

  • No other band makes me laugh like they do. Not on purpose anyways

  • I didn't realize Moby was in the group before doing his own thing. The Smiths, The Cure, Morrissey & The Housemartins = GREAT MUSIC !!!

  • @djbnice1

that's norman cook [ who is fatboy slim and not moby] also check the group freak power

  • dont care what age u r or what u like

  • I'm 12 and what is this?

  • Anybody else from Hull remember hearing this in Cheese on a saturday afternoon....or in White Horse and maybe even in Gingerman or Rome and juliets (the only music i remember them putting on in Romeos was Luther van Dross)

  • is that Phil Jupitus at 0:28?

  • @mriys ERM...yes its Phil

  • Kant be enough said about the HouseMartins.

  • BELTER! Haven't heard this since in the back of Mum's car in about 1993. I was five then.

  • my mum brought me here. She has great taste in music!

  • THIS IS A CLASSIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • the doctor brought me here...

  • This is just so damned cool!!!!!!

  • Fuck me. i take it back. Something good has come out of Hull.

  • @m0j086 Three good things have come from Hull..

    1 - The Housemartins

    2 - Syphallis

3 - The Black Death (Hull was the port of entry for syphallis from the new world and the black death aswell)

There's John Alderton and maureen Lipman aswell, but i dont like to admit to that.

  • Was just watching 'This Is England '86'. LOVE IT, so much BETTER than the actual film 'This Is England'. This came on tonight, how I ADORE 'Happy Hour'. Good memories of this totally BRITISH heaven piece of poptastic!

  • that song was the second i heard. the first is Build.after that i start to hear them.

    good band.

  • i used to hang around with these lads in hull years ago :).

  • those were the days... I'm gona take a ride on my Escort XR3i

  • I was out on the town last night, asked the DJ to put this song on (It was an 80's theme night) he looked at me and said "Who? What?". I swiftly left.

  • @euanrocks sad sign of the times

  • @worldcoup The thing is the Dj was in his late 30's and I'm 18 for christ sake! Couldn't believe it!

  • So much better than the rubbish we get nowadays, bring back this proper british music!! Coming from a 21 year old

  • @543amb

Totally agree! I remember (exactly to this day) the first time I saw the video to this, I was 12 and just gone to my mates and the chart show (CH4) had been on for 10 mins when this came on. Instantly thought "What a fuckin good song" you know a good song when ya foot starts tappin :P

  • @543amb tbh i agree aswell and im 20 lol

  • @543amb You realise there's still a lot of good british music coming out? And that there was bad (really, really bad) music coming out in the 80's too as well as the good stuff? The reason that all music from the past seems to be good is because the shit stuff didn't survive the test of time. Also what has you being 21 got to do with anything?

  • @543amb COGLIONE

  • @543amb There's plenty of great British bands "nowadays", and what the fuck has your age got to do with anything?!? Do you want a fucking medal for being 21?

  • Women Grow On Tree#s ,, God Am On The Wrong Planet!

  • Am My Own Boss! I Have A Happy Every Night-- With Myself. lol

  • Yeah, I heard about that too Stan used to write them letters. I think he was in love with Melanie!

  • They were fans of Trixie's Big Red Motorbike, apparently.

  • how is it posible that a man that played in such a great band, turned out making the crap that hes making now! i prefered you as norman cook from the housemartins!

  • @peredebeeste i'm not too familiar with his most recent stuff, but you don't like stuff like 'praise you' and 'weapon of choice'?

  • @firestartertwistedfi not my cup of tea! i'm not into that electronic and mixed stuff!

  • Brilliant moves!

  • Brilliant.

  • Grab the audio from this track at thetunify doht cohm.

  • It's such an upbeat sounding song, but if you listen to the lyrics, they are anything but upbeat. Love this song, though.

  • seek and you shell find.

  • can never get tired of this supurb video

  • This song (and video) is on Lips :o)

  • aw young fatboy slim:)

  • This song is great musically, lyrically and the video is just simple brilliance. The dance moves - legendary. Playing this nice and loud on a decent Hi Fi or quality headphones (like most music) gains another dimension.

  • 0:29. Is that Phil Jupitus???!

  • @TheFootyFirst It is indeed. Typical he'd have a copy of the Mirror with the headline "THATCHER SHATTERED" :o) He passes by the shot at 1:02!

  • This is how I learned to dance..

    Such a good tune.

  • Fatboy slim(Norman Cook) \o/

  • Lmao I had to look...unbelievable lol :P

  • One of the most cleverly subversive tunes ever. "Don't believe it/'cause it's never been happy to me." God bless you, Housemartins, we need more of your ilk.

  • @triceratops111 never really happened to me, fool

  • LOL The first guy that 0:28 is like Mr Bean.

  • such a happy song makes u instantly in a good mode

  • This video has the fewest number of dislikes I've seen on a video with this many views. Fucking brilliant stuff - I love it. The Housemartins were a great band.

  • Comment removed

  • That brings good memories! Thanks .

  • What a Good Place to Be!

  • i kind of feel like the vid is a poke at the smiths, just saying... love the housemartins.

  • awesome atmosphere..

  • Ahh the days where mid day drinking was encouraged by classic british pubs..................LOVE THIS video, makes me want to leap back into the 80s and do it all again!

  • 1:18 do they catch wayne rooney? :S

  • @TheWoWDragone Haha, looks like him.

  • Is it Norman Cook ?

  • @steviejameson yes mate thats him

  • my uncle gave me this album when I was 12 or so and knew nothing about music beyond what was on the radio. Still love this song decades later. Sadly I can relate to it now... for awhile, but I ran into my old boss drunk at an event last night this song could have sound-tracked the whole evening.

  • A Japanese bar (there is the system which is similar to Happy Hour in izakaya).)

For example, (izakaya) opening time is 5:00 p.m..) Even if it takes several cups beer mugs for $ 17 for two hours until 7:00 p.m., it is OK.

    日本のバー(izakaya)にも Happy Hour と同様なシステムがあります。

    例えば(izakaya)オープン時間が午後5時です。午後7時までの2時間 $17でビールジョッキ何杯、飲んでもOKです。

  • cute&very funny ^^

    i love this video!

  • Nice critique of Thatcher and her divisive polices they are buck for fuck's sake

  • 0:29 isnt that the fat bloke form never mind the buzzcocks?

  • @TONYCOV881 it is

  • @TONYCOV881 - Phil Jupitus, I think...

  • Well this got over 300,000 views, so I'm guessing people still remember the Housemartins, Doctor.

  • @Terrakinetic this aimed at me???

  • @TheDoctorR86

lol. No. I saw the link for The Housemartins next to a Doctor Who, video where he asked if "people still remembered the Housemartins?"

  • fat boy slim at his best!!!

  • one of the best 80s band

isnt it ironic i remember people bemoaning the music of the 80s but now its considered pretty good especially considering how shit todays music is

that 50 cents a cunt isnt he?

  • Love the Beatlish final chord too :-)

  • David Tennant loved the Housemartins apparently

  • This is the kind of song that makes me want to listen to something like it. But there isn't anything like it, that's what makes it so wonderful. So I just have to listen to it on repeat until I get sick of it and move on to something else...

  • i just found out fatboy slim was in this band, and yeah that looks like phil jupitus at .29

  • @giddygiddy85 He was their Press Officer at the time.

  • THIS IS ENGLAND '86

  • i am a MASSIVE smiths fan but i still refute the idea that the housemartins are a copy. i can see the obvious similarities like the steel-string guitar sound or the unusual voice of the lead singers, even the geeky dancing to an extent, but that doesnt mean they're a copy.

you wouldnt say spandau ballet is a copy of human league just coz theyre both new romantics and both have synth in their tunes.

this still is and always will be one of the great feel good tunes of all time

  • wish i could dance like the housemartins

  • smiths rip off

  • well.. are you dancin? *throws down handbag* LOL!

  • Is that Phil Jupitus at 0.29?
