  • if it was 50

would you say nam muoi or lam muoi ?

  • @lolemj nam muoi

  • @lolemj "năm mươi". only _5 ( 5 is at the last word) you say "lăm"

  • central vietnamese would say "hăm mốt" or "hăm lăm" =))

  • Comment removed

  • when you write, you used Hai mươi lăm

when you speak, you used hai lăm ( say quick ) or hai mươi lăm.

  • how about 21, 31?

    you don't mention these exception

    it's "hai mốt, ba mốt"

  • @xiaolungpao it isnt that it is hai muoi mot,ba moui mot(i know it doesnt is exactly but i dont know the characters srry . . . .)

  • @DigitalMonsterFan I know it's actually "Hai mươi mốt" and "Ba mươi mốt" but Vietnamese ppl don't say that clearly. they say "hai mốt" and "ba mốt" for shorten.

but I mean she didn't mention the exception for 21 and 31. others will misunderstand and say "hai mươi một" "ba mươi một"

like 25, it's pronounced "hai mươi lăm"

21 is pronounced "hai mươi mốt" not "hai mươi một"

  • Oh my goodness.........I want her to be my private teacher soooooooooo badddddddddddd!!!!!! If I could learn VNese with her, probably the only word i can remember in all year long is "cute" - "dễ thương"! Học với cô giáo này là suốt cả năm chỉ biết có mỗi từ "dễ thương" mà thôi =)))))))))))

  • zero = không

  • how do you say zero??

  • Can I schedule a one-on-one private lesson?

  • 15: "mười lăm" ; 25:"hai mươi lăm" but we rarely say that, we say 25: "hai nhăm", 35:" ba nhăm" :D

  • @Hayama0907 that's because of the Northern dialect.

  • @TheTrieutran Not really... It's just a fast way to say it :|

  • @Hayama0907 haha, I know Vietnamese quite well dude, I've never heard anybody from the South say that. If they wanna say it fast, they'll say :"hai lam, ba lam".

  • @TheTrieutran Well Im Vietnamese and I said it's just a fast way to say, i didnt say everyone say that way:| Can say "hai nhăm" or "hai lăm", it's the fast way to say it. What I said in the first place was:" we dont say "hai mươi lăm", not "mươi" just "hai lăm" or "hai nhăm". Northern or Southern the same, they always say it in the fast way

  • @Hayama0907

"hai nham or hai lam" is the Northern dialect.....people in the South don't say it that way..."hai muoi lam" is the way the people in the South say it.....sorry you are wrong....

  • @Hayama0907 Hai nhăm is wrong. hai lăm mới đúng !!

  • wow everyone in class looked at me for say 0ne to 99 cant breath

  • it's too complicated, em là người Việt còn thấy thế nữa là...

  • trắt(sắt, nặng, hỏi)lên giọng === bàng(quyền, ngã, không dấu)xuống giọng

  • @MrLaftis trắc not trắt, sắc not sắt, bằng not bàng, huyền not quyền.

Trắc ( sắc, nặng, hỏi, ngã ) bằng(huyền, không dấu(ngang))

  • On the number 5 nam can awesome mean years so thats why people say muoi lam meaning 15 while muoi nam means 10 years!

  • I might have to kidnap this Donna to be my yellow FOB princess!

  • @ xuan200: When we say 15, 25, etc we write 5 as "lăm" not "năm".

"Mười lăm" means 15 but "Mười năm" means "ten years" because " in this case năm" means "year".

  • Thank you very much - helped me a lot ( I try to achieve fluency in vietnamese ; )

  • donna is a muoi

  • lmao..i used to go to taekwondo with her! :O

  • OMG, why does she sound like she can't pronounce the word 'Vietnamese' properly?!? It's pissing me off. There is a 't' in there, it's not 'Vienamese'.

  • @jahammercrazy Lots of English and Americans drop their Ts.

I don't like it when a teacher does not speak her native language properly either, but it's not a big deal. Generally this woman speaks well and clearly and has pleasant demeanor so I am happy to watch the videos and be appreciative of the lessons.

  • Man, everytime I watch this, Donna would remind me of the great patriotic folk song singer, Khanh Ly! They're both so beautiful inside and out!!! Ai Van is another pixie I had a crush on.

  • You can use Google Translation to learn Vietnamese

  • @thiskiss1990 how would u learn 2 pronounce?

  • Hi there,

Great lesson and charming pronunciation! Congrat!

I would explain why we say "mười lăm = 15" instead of "mười năm = 15 years". Also we don't say "hai mươi một" but "hai mươi mốt = 21", etc. This is also an exception.

  • @bslangthang72

mười năm is 10 years not 15.

  • @binnz0r muoi nam is 15, not 10, 10 is muoi

  • @bslangthang72

I was just about to point that out. My 18y/o cousin still says "hai mươi một" and the elders crack up lol

  • @bslangthang72

mười năm=10 years, not 15 years.

  • @hongquan1000 muoi nam=15 not 10, ten is muoi

    Muoi(10)+nam(5)=15

  • @xuan200

"muoi nam" means 10 years and "muoi lam" means fifteen. check it again!

"nam" means 5 but we have to say "muoi lam" when we mean 15. "nam" also means "year"

  • @hongquan1000 ...... omfg, MOMMY!! DADDY!!! whats 15 in viet again!!?!!!?! (yes I am vietnamese)

  • @xuan200 mười lăm :| mười năm is ten years :| mười lăm is fifteen =; are U clear?

  • @MahLittleSanSan really? -_- i thought muoi was only 10 -_- I DONT KNOW! ........If I was born in Vietnam then sure.....

  • @xuan200 Why is it so hard to explain you =.,=?

    10 (mười) + 5 (năm) = 15 (mười + năm)

But the pronunciation was changed to make the word sound a little easier *I guess*

So we must speak it "mười lăm" instead of "mười năm"

Only "10 years" is "mười năm"

Hope it clear up all your confusion ^^!

  • @MahLittleSanSan ......-_- why is it so hard to make you stop? sure im an idiot for sureasses! i dont care.....call me watever! anyways.....I already knew that :l ..........THE FIRST TIME SOMEBODY SAID THAT, i already knew o-o so can you just stop contacting me please? ....bydumbassespeoplewhoshouldreallylookuntiltheytalk...... SO GET IT!? -_- ivebeentaughtalotonyoutubeandthisisstartingtogetreallyannnoying,u dont force somebody to get it? DONT U!? OR DO U NOT!? SHOULD I FORCE U TO LEARN ******!?

  • @xuan200 Okay okay. I thought you din't get it so I explained once again. Just misunderstanding ^^! I'm sorry for making you mad TT~

  • am ye^ toung

  • Hello: How do you say the number " 69 ? for example " I want to do 69 with you" ?

  • @vikingusa2002 "sáu chín", just the same as the combined pronunciation of the words "so" and "chin" in English

  • @garong77 It's sáu mươi chín.

  • teacher's so cute! & speak English very well, I like her pronounciation in English

  • you should have added the exception rule for #1 too.

  • wow this girl IS really a good teacher. i been speaking vietnamese my whole life and never ever did i ever though about the number 5 exception. wow im shock!!!

  • the # rules r pretty much the samee in alot of language in asia

  • the # rules r pretty much the samee in alot of language in asia

  • that helped me :). ~breana hehehe

  • i think we need to know how count 10 000, 100 000, 1 000 000 etc ... because in Viet Nam we need to use for use vietnamese money :)

  • @chris59000 its very easy, e.g. 10 = muoi, 1000 = ngin/ngan, 1000 000=trieu. 10+1000 = muoi ngin/ngan or 10+1000 000 = muoi trieu

  • if u have questions in vietnamese, i will show u, just ask me :D

  • you're prettty (:

  • and in fast spoken vietnamese, I often say for example "21 = hai mốt (without "mươi" in the midle), 25 = hai lăm, 55 = năm lăm, 77 = bảy bảy etc...

and for number like 21, 31,... 1 should be pronuonced "mốt" not "một"

  • i think you forgot the exception of number 1..isn't it?

number 1 pronounced at một, but if it follow after a nubmer, it pronounced at mốt. correct me if i a m wrong.

  • that's right :)

  • Comment removed

  • you are so nice!

  • I love the fact that Vietnamese use roman letters. Now all i have to concentrate on is speaking.

  • for the exceptions, shouldn't the number 1 be on there too? since it's pronunciation is different after 11. ex: for 21 and 31 etc, the pitch in the pronunciation goes higher... am I right?

  • @MidnightCrescendo ..the pitch go down..not up..

  • @linh48964 im pretty sure it goes up but...

  • omg... i think.. im ganna fall in love w you... you're so cute....we should speak Viet sometimes... i think you speak fluent Vietnamese right?>

  • I really want to speak Vietnamese

  • I needed this. I forgot how to speak Vietnamese. Hahahahah. I'm only half but still.
