its not about the skill of the riffs and shit. its about the sound that the guitarist can make with those riffs. and randy rhoads was amazing at making awesome sounds from that guitar he played and you can keep going on about who's better and all that shit but in the end it all doesnt even matter. listen to the music and shut the hell up. ty
@nicolas201014 i just never liked randy rhoads, and dude, ur not gunna convince me to. i dont care how much you like him, let me have my opinion, and ill let you have yours.
@FraserIsBetterThanYu wow you dont know didley do you? You know Randy could play any guitar classical, acoustic, and electric. not just one guitar. and he died at only 23 I beleive, and recorded crazy train at 21. nuff said
@MrPorsche91730 you know i can play classical, acoustic and electric. also some blues, jazz, flamenco. its not a major feat. in fact, it isnt really anything to be proud of. neither is dyeing at 23
lol Im sure you can .its funny everybody on the internet say they can do just agbout anything, its just redicolus.and my point was dimebag couldent do any of thet retard I was not alking about you. god dam how do you go from dime bag to yourself lol wow. and my bad I should of said that Randy was a such an anamazing guitarst at such a young age. I mean its hard to beleive crazy train was recorded when he was 21
In other words what I'm trying to say is Randy's guitar playing is light some one reciting shakespeare and the shred guys sound like some guy talking as fast as he can at a car auction taking bids .
It has nothing do with the fact that he died prematurely . Randy understood what it means to play good guitar. Most if not all players now a days don't understand s what that means . They think playing a bunch of notes really fast means you are playing good guitar. IT DOES NOT . Phrasing, harmony . Call and response . look up what that means. It's a blues staple. This is what makes Randy's playing so special !!! along with his great compositional skills
@XuliusCaesar you didn't get it, he died at the height of his career and it made everyone think he was the best, ifhe had died today after releasing several crappy albums he wouldn't be as great
@reviewsnake how do YOU know he'd release "several crappy albums"? How do you even know he was at his peak? Maybe he has 12 more great albums in him before he released a crappy one, but then again I suppose you mentioned "pac" so I should consider the source...
What you guys have to keep in mind when you talk about Randy's playing with Ozzy is that in Randy''s own words " I could do more but it's not my band " Van halen is eddie's band Randy was hired by Ozzy . And he had to play according to what Ozzy wanted. Listen to the two albums there is more playing of the firs album than the second. Ozzy was trying to get songs on the radio not promote a guitar hero. Why do you think Yngwie turned down Dio and David Lee Roth
Randy does not just simply play solos......he utilizes the guitar as an extension of his body for an outlet of emotion and feeling. Randy is gone but never forgotten.
@EVHrocks1 meh, did you know in an interview evh was actually a dick. Randy asked eddy how does he keep his guitar so intuned before he implemented floyd rose on his guitar. Just a little thing about evh. But evh isn't great any more, he was at his him in 77-88. He died quick, once more extreme guitarist like Vai, Petrucci, Eric JOhnson came into play.
@ArcAngelRyan but he was an innovator! eddie van halen is stil a fantastic guitar player and he has gotten better ego-wise more recently because he's clean now. alcohol can do a lot to a person and will send you down a spiral staircase of jackass-ness. eddie isn't the most extreme guitar player anymore but that's because he ushered in shredding. he didn't get worse, he helped other people get better.
@EVHrocks1 lol yea i see your point, he did incorporate a jazz guitarist finger tapping lick into something much more unique. Which gave other people inspiration to play guitar. I will not take that away from him by all means. He is actually the first guitar idol I ever had. but my musical knowledge and experience widened. It was EVH, Randy Rhoads, Clapton, Ywngie, Jason Becker, then you got Vinnie moore huge influence on my likin to classical. I herd John Petrucci and was just blown away.
@ArcAngelRyan Eddie is probably my favorite so far, i'm only 14. i love lifeson, satriani (saw him live), and clapton too. but EVH is probably my prime influenbce.
@Daniel777238 neither are jimmy page, jimi hendrix, david gilmour or jeff beck, i think we need some insight into these guys' DNA, no way any of them are human beings.
I truly find this one of the most beautiful guitar solos in all of rock. Randy put a level of emotion and technicality into his playing that is sadly an almost unheard of factor in most modern day guitarists. I can only pray that i can hopefully achieve this balance one day and bask in the glory of music that Randy experienced every time he played this solo. We miss you Mr. Rhoads. RIP
Pleas remember this those of you who are musicians, guitar players like Yngwie malmsteen , Paul Gilbert , Shawn Lane and all the rest of the technically gifted guitarist. It is not the number of notes you play. it is the NOTES YOU PLAY. You can combine every solo of the three guys I mentioned and none of the notes in any of the solos compare with a simple melody like Fur Elise . Eddie too !
Hate it or love it Randy would have been the best gutairst there ever was if he never died wen he did dude was a beast and Rolling Stones top 100 greatest guitarist list doesnt even have him on it bs
@superlung1 He is on it but at 85 which is horse shit! He is number uno in my book! He was an absolute musical genius! I just wish I could of been born earlier to have seen him play!
you guys are not getting it about Randy Rhodes. He was just a good a musician as he was a guitar player. Are you aware in the song flying Hy again Randy changes keys three times when he is doing finger tapping. the bass is as well they follow each other through three keys. You don't do that in heavy metal music . He did because he knew what he was doing . He took what Eddie did and did something Eddie never did with his own technique .
Any muscician who is true to the art and plays with a combination of melody speed technicality and just pure heart and soul is great musician look at Randy or satriani or santana
@dilionnis Ok kid your probably like 5. Randy is fucking amazing. Big deal the guitars bigger like wtf who cares? Go back to sucking on your binky and fuck off
I know they both can play faster and cleaner than Randy and Dime, but they just dont have the raw intense feeling. For example I do not think Dio is the most talented singer, but his singing is so powerful and moving, in a way that people with a wider vocal range such as Halford could not do. But it all doesnt really matter anyway, the important thing is they all make damn good music, and I think we can all agree on that.
Guitarists are NOT gunslingers. It's not about speed, technical ability or who's the FUCKING BEST. It's about Music and the enjoyment of playing and listening to Music.
@dirtydonki its what its all about... music experimentation doing things others havent done and building off others aswell what i keep telling my friend... that great guitarist probably diddent just start playing lose licks and such, he probably study some shit thought that sounds badass and went to work making his own music
who gives a fuck who is better at least we have had the pleasure to hear randy and eddie they are both amazing guitarist so stop your bitching you wankers and do more listening........from the jersey boy
@chrissyboyize Do more PLAYING is what I usually think in the back of my head... honestly, it's difficult for me to see a real guitar player arguing so much about guitarists/bands like some people on Youtube do.
It's kind of like arguing over a ham sandwhich and a pizza slice. I'd eat both while two bitches were arguing :D
@bnbfalcon I don't know what circle of guitarists your in, but I'm pretty sure every guitarist I've met already mentions Randy in the same breath as Hendrix and Stevie Ray Vaughan.
roads death, ozzy was crushed when this happened since randy was new to this business of human poverty being instituted with most everyone and him being one of those who made it though the asteroid belt, but his common sense had not yet landed or he would have avoided the plan ride killing him
@rsouthern it wasnt so much as being on the plane , but the idiot pilot trying to buzz the tour bus. The wing clipped the bus which sent the plane into the trees which obviously killed all on board the plane instantly. We lost a great guitarist. Had he lived he would have been mentioned in the same breath with Hendrix, Eddie Van Halen, and Stevie Ray Vaughn.
@BnJohansen sure not, Randy never failed with a guitar in his hands. I blame the fucking cameras for most of the sound that is very unclear and sounding of garbage.
Randy Rhoads is the reason and inspiration that inspired me to pick up guitar. Got one a few days ago and thats all I been doing. Thank you Randy and may you r.i.p
@rockermetalhead1200 Steve Vai is pretty dam good. Givin the fact of Randy dying at the young age of 25 and being as great as he was and the passion for his music if he was alive today he would be the best or pretty dam close. Steve Vai is a showoff. Satriani on the other hand, thats a whole diff story
@wankerpuss IMO Randy and Eddie are the 2 pioneers of modern guitar, Eddie based on Hard rock and Randy based on Heavy Metal. Randy is better for my tastes, But Eddie said once no guitarist can be better than another as we all have our own style and I think thats a great way to see it as.
@YouSweatyDieHard yep yep he kills randy any day of the week! Even Randy admitted in an interview that he didnt even know half of the stuff that eddie was doing back then
@moshtastic1993 so many where to start, like you said satch and via, van halen, hendrix, marty friedmen, alexi lahio, jeff loomis, yngwve malmsteen (by a long shot) paul gilbert, robert johnson (just out of being the father of all modren rock and metal guitarests) jeff beck, slash, chris brodric, theres so many my friend, yes dimebag and randy were greats of their time and style, but to call them the best? not true, yngwve makes them look like ammatures
@Shreddur666 well the old yngwie that is, his last album was just shredding the same licks over and over with little emotion. remember his solos on alcatrazz? man, that's where it was at!
What do you mean by "exceed" in that sentence? BTW you can't compare different guitarist going by nothing, different guitarist play different things, some guitarist may appear better to you than for another. You can go by tapping,speed, technical ability, but just comparing like that leads to nothing.
Man I'm so glad this is on YouTube, the original version just upsets me because the first half is basically on Rudy, no offense to him but come on it's Randy!
@Maniakos1984 Kerry King can riff like a mofo, but his solo's just seem sloppy. Good, yes. Fast, yes. They just lack a certain playing ability. Hanneman is better in my personal opinion. His solo in World Painted Blood was stellar.
I love the way they are playing this song so slow..I bet OZZY said slow it down and it ended up really slow! Randy just looking around wondering wtf? he still makes the solo sound so good. that is his brilliance
@sixstrings209 yes because gary moore and randy were both influenced by clasical music that makes it sound so awesome randy was a master guitar player
@emotivelooser actually randy got into classical music when he was with ozzy(early) but the person who most influeced him(besides his mom) was alice cooper
I was lucky enough to meet Randy Rhoads as he and Ozzy arrived at The Edinburgh Odeon for a Blizzard of Ozz gig. Still got the signed ticket and program...will be hanging onto them!!
@gh103 That must have been SOME show... I saw Ozzy in '83 at the US Festival...Randy was missed tremendously.. What a pure tragedy! You are luck you got to meet him!! Are you from Edinburgh? I just spent about a week there -- a few weeks ago and traveled all over Scotland- BEAUTIFUL country and lovely people!
I can't make a band with every musicians on heaven, i don't want a big band like Slipknot ok? So if you start to say: Oh dude you forgot this and that, FUCK OFF!
@RigorMortis203 Not gunna lie that would be beastly ass band. Me personally although John Bonham is prolly one of the best drummers ever I would put Ingo Schwichtenberg from the original Helloween line up just because it seems to be a heavy metal line up. Great choice though.
AWESOME. Randy was the best.

Randy Rhoads is the reason and inspiration that inspired me to pick up guitar. Got one a few days ago and thats all I been doing. Thank you Randy and may you r.i.p

I still have yet to hear a better guitarist than Randy.

@Siksaneity77 How about Yngwie Malmsteen?

@rockermetalhead1200 How about not
Cook2430 1 year ago
@Cook2430 Steve Vai?
rockermetalhead1200 1 year ago
@rockermetalhead1200 Steve Vai is pretty dam good. Givin the fact of Randy dying at the young age of 25 and being as great as he was and the passion for his music if he was alive today he would be the best or pretty dam close. Steve Vai is a showoff. Satriani on the other hand, thats a whole diff story
Cook2430 1 year ago
@rockermetalhead1200 Yngwie sucks ass

@Siksaneity77 eddie van halen?
wankerpuss 11 months ago
@wankerpuss IMO Randy and Eddie are the 2 pioneers of modern guitar, Eddie based on Hard rock and Randy based on Heavy Metal. Randy is better for my tastes, But Eddie said once no guitarist can be better than another as we all have our own style and I think thats a great way to see it as.
TigertailzBezerk 11 months ago
@wankerpuss No, just no.
YouSweatyDieHard 10 months ago
@YouSweatyDieHard yep yep he kills randy any day of the week! Even Randy admitted in an interview that he didnt even know half of the stuff that eddie was doing back then

Dime?

@bcsk8ter Dime is really good, but Randy is better.
GEDAnkew 10 months ago
@GEDAnkew Debatable,but they are definately both amazing guitarists.
bcsk8ter 10 months ago
@Siksaneity77 You will be waiting for a lifetime. The only person who can touch him is dimebag
moshtastic1993 10 months ago
@moshtastic1993 I agree, I play a Dimebag Razorback explosion, I was torn between that or a Rhodes custom V. Anyways, both phenominal guitarists
Siksaneity77 10 months ago
@moshtastic1993 not true actually, there are alot of guitar players who exceed both dimebag and randy
Shreddur666 9 months ago
@Shreddur666 I would love to know who you think exceeds them without mentioning the names; Steve Vai and Joe Satriani.
moshtastic1993 9 months ago
@moshtastic1993 so many where to start, like you said satch and via, van halen, hendrix, marty friedmen, alexi lahio, jeff loomis, yngwve malmsteen (by a long shot) paul gilbert, robert johnson (just out of being the father of all modren rock and metal guitarests) jeff beck, slash, chris brodric, theres so many my friend, yes dimebag and randy were greats of their time and style, but to call them the best? not true, yngwve makes them look like ammatures
Shreddur666 9 months ago
@Shreddur666 well the old yngwie that is, his last album was just shredding the same licks over and over with little emotion. remember his solos on alcatrazz? man, that's where it was at!
firstroundko108 9 months ago
@Shreddur666
What do you mean by "exceed" in that sentence? BTW you can't compare different guitarist going by nothing, different guitarist play different things, some guitarist may appear better to you than for another. You can go by tapping,speed, technical ability, but just comparing like that leads to nothing.

that last guy in red at 0:40 looked like Michael Angelo Batio... i didnt know he played bass
chunkypooh12 1 year ago
@chunkypooh12 That's Rudy Sarzo on bass. Check out some '80s Quiet Riot videos to get a better look at him. He looks little to nothing like Batio.
thedeepfriedcandy 1 year ago
Man I'm so glad this is on YouTube, the original version just upsets me because the first half is basically on Rudy, no offense to him but come on it's Randy!

My ton 10 Guitarist are.
Number 3:Kerry King
Number 2:Gus G
And Number 1:Randy Rhoads.
Randy is better of all.
Maniakos1984 1 year ago
@Maniakos1984 Kerry King can riff like a mofo, but his solo's just seem sloppy. Good, yes. Fast, yes. They just lack a certain playing ability. Hanneman is better in my personal opinion. His solo in World Painted Blood was stellar.

Randy and Slash are great but Randy is better

@alaid257 well slash is.... good.... no ofense, but randy is god
sonnic1995 1 year ago
I love the way they are playing this song so slow..I bet OZZY said slow it down and it ended up really slow! Randy just looking around wondering wtf? he still makes the solo sound so good. that is his brilliance

Is it me or does Gary moore's playing sound like Randy?
sixstrings209 1 year ago
@sixstrings209 yes because gary moore and randy were both influenced by clasical music that makes it sound so awesome randy was a master guitar player
emotivelooser 1 year ago 7
@emotivelooser actually randy got into classical music when he was with ozzy(early) but the person who most influeced him(besides his mom) was alice cooper
randyrhoads1028 11 months ago
I was lucky enough to meet Randy Rhoads as he and Ozzy arrived at The Edinburgh Odeon for a Blizzard of Ozz gig. Still got the signed ticket and program...will be hanging onto them!!
gh103 1 year ago
@gh103 That must have been SOME show... I saw Ozzy in '83 at the US Festival...Randy was missed tremendously.. What a pure tragedy! You are luck you got to meet him!! Are you from Edinburgh? I just spent about a week there -- a few weeks ago and traveled all over Scotland- BEAUTIFUL country and lovely people!
Peace... Leesa

the band in heaven:
John Bonham - drums
Cliff Burton - bass
Randy Rhoads - lead
Dimebag - ritm guitar
Dio - Vocals
I can't make a band with every musicians on heaven, i don't want a big band like Slipknot ok? So if you start to say: Oh dude you forgot this and that, FUCK OFF!
RigorMortis203 1 year ago 57
@RigorMortis203 Not hating or anything, but if you wanted to make that list more metal, you should put James "The Rev" Sullivan as drums.
Also, i would just make Dime and Randy just Guitars, considering they would just shred on and off destroying the faces of the innocent.
Again not hating, just saying :)

@RigorMortis203 why is dimebag the rhythm guitarist???????and put jimmy sullivan on drums.
someguitarist69 1 year ago
@RigorMortis203 Not gunna lie that would be beastly ass band. Me personally although John Bonham is prolly one of the best drummers ever I would put Ingo Schwichtenberg from the original Helloween line up just because it seems to be a heavy metal line up. Great choice though.
