Revenge is the only word, 'that' does not stand in military terms, as a military action, therefore; when a military unit commits revenge, there 'is' no honor. Revenge is the only word you could put on this stupidity of killing old women, men and children. What honor is there in such an action? Therefore, rescind the Medals of Honor for the Wounded Knee Massacre (battle, in military terms).

So fuckin americans who hate THE NATIVES Stop beeing fuckin racists,u dont deserve to live in USA,u deserve to be put in a rezervation and massacred like u're old old old relatives killed the NATIVES.
White american's history ain't SHIT.The real americans are the Natives. They were the only civilization who lived in the U.S.We are a latin nation, because of the ROMAN Empire who conqured the nation who lived here named DACII.We have one of the biggest History as a nation.Americans made a movie - Dracula - Everyhing its fake there. It wasnt a legend,VLAD TEPES was a real person who united our country territories. AMERICANS LEARN A FAKE HISTORY ABOUT OTHER COUNTRIES,they dont have their own.so..
The brutality the government used against native peoples ,was to commit genocide. I feel that native people are owed due to the relentless slaughter of native people across America.
That is a naive statement. How do B52 bombers targeting cities keep civilian casualties down. The military propaganda wants people to believe in their good intentions but it is still about stealing the land and resources of other countries. Read Howard Zinn's "A Peoples History of the United States" and then get back to me.
robert kelly you claim to be a Vietnam vet but you insult today's combat vets, native and non-native with your dubious claims about 90% civilian casualties in Iraq. I am a Marine combat vet and proud member of the Chickasaw Nation of Oklahoma whose grandfather went thru the Indian boarding school system. I know all about what happened to my people in the past and it doesn't have anything to do with today's wars. If you are as you claim a vet you know how hard we try to keep civ casualties down.
Man...the us army was brutal in the 1800s. From indian massacres to the looting of confederate towns. To raping southern and native american women. If this was done today just think of the punishments
Maybe you were never in the military but once you are you do not have the final say. Disobeying a direct order gets you court marshaled. While you wait for trail you are in "jail" and the time served does not go against your military obligation. And how many Germans were just saying they "followed orders" at the death camps. The ruling class promotes racism and violence to distract us from them stealing our money. The bankers are the prime example.
If I understand this right, the Cheyenne moved in, killed,, and drove out smaller, weaker tribes in the plains, including the Black Hills in an act of manifest destiny for themselves. Later, with incidents like Sand Creek, the same fate happened to the Cheyenne. Karma is a bitch.
As much as you would like to criticise the US, a lot of what happened then happened everywhere around the world. The Crimea war, Neapolian, inter tribal wars in Africa, etc the world was in a constant state of flux. That's just the way things were.
Unabated Violence was the order of the world. You can't expect to judge them according to today's morals just like we can't expect to judge the cave dwelling humanoids of 20000BC with today's laws.
THere wasn´t just one Sand Creek, there were many. THe whole world knows about this genocide and will never forget it. It´´s the best for america to say sorry for this like Australie apologized themselves toward the aborigines and the germans to the Jews. ANd then, there must be talked about reparations. This is the only way to rehabilitade the honor of america.

@pim1234 You mean innocent women and children aren't be slaughtered in Iraq. Wake up to the colonial nightmare that is American foreign policy and always has been. Read Howard Zinn's "A Peoples History of the United States" and then get back to me. Until then you are just another uninformed loudmouth.
Ah "Mister Lincoln's army" in action. Folks this wonderful video is the truth. When you read history books it is the "Apostles of Brotherhood and tolerance of the North" versus those evil "racist" southerners. The inconvenient truth is that while the Union claimed to be "liberating" the south it was and continued to slaughter and displace native Americans. Lincoln didn't liberate anything. This continued until there were no native-Americans left to slaughter or lands to steal.
I have read that book and this massacre is one of many harrowing incidents, what's worse is that while the U.S was viewed as a country of freedom and liberty for its citizens, the Natives were not classed as citizens and therefore didn't have those rights, and this was one of the awful consequences.
he was fond of saying, and of course, since Indians were lice, their children were nits. Clearly, Chivington was a man ahead of his time: it would be almost a century later before another man would think of describing the extermination of a people "the same thing as delousing": Heinrich Himmler.
I am a soldier in iraq now and i am appauled by the ending of this video we dont slaughter people what happend to the native americans was wrong no doubt but i fight for your freedom and the ability for you to even post this comes at great sacrifice from me and others like me. we are govened by the laws of war and do not and no one i know has slaughtered ne one. if ne one is gettin slaughtered it is us. i pray that you find solution for your igrnoance. WE FIGHT FOR YOU!!
I was as soldier in vietnam and for you to claim you are fighting for me is a bunch of bullshit. You are the victim of American military propaganda. You are fighting for the rights of the ruling class to steal the natural resources of other countries. You are the ignorant one young man. Wake up to the fact that the US continues it age old policies of colonial aggression. Ninety percent of the casualties in Iraq are civilians. So don't tell me innocent people aren't dying.
I was never a soldier but I did have a cousin who fought in veitnam who was exposed to agent orange. He came home and nearly drunk himself to death, woke up stangling his wife. Has two fingers left. My uncle fought in germany WWII. Was on a tank when the driver decided to vere and run over two german children playing. He got 5$ a month and paid the postage to send it back. Had two other uncles in WWII. None seemed to be proud. Thanks for the sacrifices, but Indians fought for freedom too.
@mrrichardmichael1 I know you don't slaughter anyone - nobody said that. Your heart & bravery are in the right place.
But, robertleokelly, is right in what he says about fighting for the ruling class and other peoples resources...and also to protect us from terrorists. Can you say where fighting terrorists ends and oil greed begins?
YOU FIGHT FOR OIL AND PLUNDER. you are puppets of the American government. FREEDOM MY ARSE WHOSE FREEDOM ? Americas freedom to wage war and slaughter to steal oil. Yes your a soldier i was to , but the bombing knocked iraq back to the stoneage . and you expect these people to welcome you ???
I donate toys clothes food blankets and except donations from friends too, to bring to One Nation donation off Nevada in Co.Springs to be brought to some of the poorest reservations. Why? Because the Gov. is still screwing the Natives. . We'll wait and see if Barracks promise to the tribal elders on health care and assistance is true or false in time. Utube Pine Ridge res sometime
just as we cant claim laurels of germans like Einstein, we dont have to apologize for what we didnt do, I mean, us, the after WW2 generation, but we can speak out against the deniars,
who pretend, and make up reasons, why the holocaust was no holocaust, but just a lie, this is our duty, we cant bring anyone back, but we can mourn those who were felled by the nazi death machine,
As I say, I can understand you, and in a way I see it same.
I don't want to be the eternal victim, but on other hand we should everfpoget the victims.
So to all sides (americans and germans, and all others) again: you needn't be or feel guilty, but you are all responsible that such things won't happen again, that crimes and victims aren't forgotten
The way my people, the whites, treated native from beginning, the way how they behaved on battle field and behind the lines... there is no excuse for it.
And I really understand natives who began to learn from white men that devilish behavior.
My thoughts and feelings are with the natives and those they have lost.
About innocent white victims: they where victims of their own people, natives only reacted to white man's lies, rapes, tortures and guns.(eventhough I see every crime as 1 to much)
.i know why he was angry. his whole family was rubbed out in 1862, in Minnesota. it made his mind snap. he also may have had scouts. and on sight of Cheyenne camp they went nuts. inter-tribal war was a bad scene.
"pev-ah pev-ah men chass".the truth isn't fully told in text books, the atrocities we had endured. Thank you for your knowledge and being shared. A Shawnee Indian
venakew, "not that all americans have to apologize for this", why do all germans then have to apologize for hitlers crimes and are called nazis by everyone, what are we to call the americans ? murderers?
(I could answer in german, but most here speak english).
OK, I'm truly fed up with being seen as nazi, only because I'm a german, with being hunted by rasistic foreigner s in my own country (sometimes I feel like native american in the "indian wars")
But in both cases, whites in america, germans under hitler: we can't blame others for what we have started. And it doesn't hurt to say sorry.
just stop compare, none who is guilty can point at the other bad guy. And there are to many germans among those who came to america.
Only other rassists say that we germans are all nazis and murderers, the europe-americans where all murderers.
But still I feel ashamed for that my people have done (eventhough my family in nazi germany and those who left to America 1680-1730 where not involved).
So it's on both, all americans and germans to make it better.
no, let them all apologize, we germans also had to apologize, but the brits and the americans dont like to talk about their crimes, they just want glory
How can americans be proud of their heritage when it includes shit like this. Not all Americans need to be apologise or feell guilt for this, but the fact the original inhabitants of america are forced to live in reseervations is an outrage.
Alhtough The Spanish do have a lot to answer for, as do British ,French the list is endless
Honestly the worst part for me,is that most indigenous cultures seem to have mastered the art of living at one with nature not exhausting it like our globalised civilised cultures have done.
i totally agree.... and they keep blaming them for the various kidnappings and stuff .... what the whites did is a total disgrace, but i bet that authorities have no idea on what pitiful conditions the REAL americans now live.
This a part of my families history and i cant stand what he had done. He is a great great great great uncle in my family but what he did was terible. Amazing he got away with what he did.
There are very graphic, detailed descriptions of the massacre in Dee Brown's 1970 book: Bury My Heart At Wounded Knee. You should begin your research there. This history is heartbreaking and makes sobering reading for all Americans.
US is a country born out of genocide of native American population. Like any empire it is build on murder, theft of other people's land and savagery. And it continues to this day. The land of the free, my arse. Like any empire that lives by the sword it will surely die by the sword. Historical inevitability.
@Muradski LOL I'm native american and your history isn't exactly clean either. Let me list. You Brits came to Australia committing mass genocide against the aboriginals and yet the Australian Government still denied the atrocities even today . Not to mention your government is also corrupt with tony Blair along with our white american government. You also make Africa pay Europe more than Europe pay for Africa. You Europeans need to own up to your mistakes.
If you would listen closely to her comments she says "her grandmother" was one of the survivors that day. This is an accurate description of what went on that day. I visited the site myself last summer and read comments from white soldiers as well that confirm her story. You need to study your history better before making comments like this.
That's pretty ignorant of you to saw that. So if you're father or brother was part of any raid such as that, you think it would be justified for you to be hanged?
The fact of the matter is that atrocities were comitted on both sides. But one side was defending their homes and he other was trying to take their land to mine for gold.....hmmm, kind of like oil is the new gold and iraq is the new world. If we don't learn from history, we a doomed to repeat it.
Same government and same military killing people for their land and resources. As the Indians say, "Homeland Security - Fighting Terrorism since 1492".
Free Tibet vs Free Lakota -- Is there a difference!
There needs to rise a great Leader, an American-India Dalai Lama, who can bring the tribes together and stop the in-fighting and welfarism. As Malcolm X was against Welfarism and Affirmative Action, the Indian Action plan must include this reasoning. The more you live off of the doll the more anesthitized you become to life. A warrior "earns" while a beggar "squirms."
Taranau -- Means has been on the horse for a long time -- he should be sitting in front of the sacred fire, hopefully he is educated a young representative young indians can find inspiring.
Very few want to talk about the influence gangs and drug sales are having.
Legalize drugs and get rid of all forms of afirmative action, reparations, and welfare -- in a very short period of time the red-road will reappear to the young!!
Run. Run for the strong hold, my Indian relations. Run! The soldiers are coming. The white men made many promises to us Indian people, but they never kept them, save one; they promised to take our land, and they did.
Bad people do awfull, horrible, terrible, moronic things because they're mean, cruel and stupid.Evil people do awfull, horrible, terrible, moronic things because it's fun...Either way, there is a universal justice and retribution comes to all who so richly deserve it.
You were doing well with the video and had me interested in it. I thought it was great UNTIL..you ended it with the comment about Iraq. I think it absured to use one People's horror in the past and compare it with the assistance of another People's freedom. One was clearly aimed at total destruction and the other is not. What an unbalanced comparison.
If you think what America and England are doing in Iraq is assisting in providing their people with freedom I would counter that you are slightly misinformed. The SAME government that massacred Indians at Sand Creek is now waging a war on the people of Iraq. Why? To steal their oil! It has absolutely nothing to do with freedom for Iraqi citizens. The US is being the bully as usual. Same old story.
They'll never be safe. They always have to have a war.All is "safe" in the Koreas,we still have thousands of soldiers there. They may never actually dismantle the DMZ mine fields.
Some don't understand that the US Government was hijacked by special interests soon after it was created. The lofty ideals, some of which were based on Native principles, became subjugated by material interests.Sadly, the American Dream has become nothing more than the establishment of business by force.
theyre not doing it for the oil, they just didnt like saddam and they figured "well lets finish the job whilst where at it" but that kinda backfired they should of just left after saddam was hanged.
the reason i know it aint for oil is because theyre a lot of other countries in the middle east with more oil and less people
Folks, have you ever noticed that U.S. History condemns (rightly so) the Jewish Holocaust in Europe, but it somehow conveniently overlooks a greater holocaust here in America? Just food for thought.
Yes. And, it is usually not even acknowledged as a holocaust despite the fact that there have been total extinctions of hundreds of North American native nations on this continent, alone. One method used for this was by "bioterrorism" that was committed by the US govn't when native people were given blankets purposely infested with small pox.
Ward Churchill once invented such a story. I fell for it, too. It was a pure lie. It has been soundly refuted - by native scholars. Show me a single documented case to support your claim.I haven't found a single one.
Of course you haven't found a "single documented case". Who does the "documenting"? Think about it. If someone committed a crime, do you think they would be foolish enough to admit it on paper?
So, where do you have your information from? Who makes that claim, giving what kind of specifics?
As for your rhethorical question - people often talk about rheir crimes to confidantes who pass the story on until someone writes it down. Bystanders, accomplices, victims, survivors - historical incidents involve usually quite a number of people, many more people than just the perpetrators themselves. If you don't have any of this, it's just a completely unsubstantiated rumor.
You stated: "people often talk about rheir crimes to confidantes who pass the story on until someone writes it down."
My response:
1. Isn't "confidantes who pass the story on until someone writes it down" the basis of "unsubstantiated rumors"? Did you ever play the game "grapevine" in grade school? If so, what happens to the original statement after being passed to even only 1 or 2 people?
2. Native people during this time period did not use written language, or for the most part, even know English, so how could the stories "passed down" or "written" not be biased to the white person's perspective?
3. Therefore, the point I'm trying to make is that "written information passed on" or even not "passed on" and told directly can be just as an "unsubstantiated rumor" as a verbally told story. Writing it down doesn't make it "truth".
Part 1 of 2: Everything you write is quite right. That something is written down doesn't make it "true" and the Indians were an illiterate culture. That's why any source has to be carefully assessed as to its reliablity, crosschecking it with other sources, examining the plausibility of its content and the role of the originator of the source.
Thankfully, a wealth of oral information by Indians has been recorded and written down, by mixed-blood people, anthropologists, journalists and a plethora of people who wrote letters, reports autobiographies etc.
Your claim of biological warfare through blankets is most severe. So, what do you know to substantiate that claim? Whodunnit? Who were the victims? When? Where? How?
Ward Churchill once made such a claim concerning the 1837 Upper Missouri smallpox epidemic.
Part 3: He gave all the necessary information to make his case. It all collapsed, he had made it up, turned a trapper trading post into an army garrison, invented a post surgeon who withheld vaccines and told the sick indians to scatter. He quoted works in footnotes saying the opposite of what he claimed. He lost his job over this, and rightfully so. If you just heard the blanket story in a conversation and thus cannot give any sources you most likely heard of the Ward Churchill hoax.
1. What we consider "literate" is Euro-American biased. Other cultures had a wealth of knowledge that was discounted and not acknowledged.
2. Even "white culture" has written documentation in govn't records that the goal of the US was to exterminate "Indians". A famous quote is during this time period is "The only good Indian is a dead Indian". US Gold medals were awarded for native scalps.
Lookoo1: 3. Initially, my information came from a graduate school degreed and educated Lakota woman who grew-up on the reservation. Her information was passed on through her parents and ancestors. This information was later validated to me from other graduate school degreed Natives who also grew-up on reservations and came from other Native nations and tribes, in other areas of the country.
The Smithsonian has archives of documentations during and around the 19th century. It usually requires a lot of time and research. Their attitude toward the Natives, and the treatment of them is indicated in these documents. If you are not racist and have a heart, it is horrible to read how human beings can treat other human beings that way.
I was extremely interested in "other perspectives of the his-story I was previously taught" between 1992 through 2002. If you asked me during this time period, I could have more easily shared with you more specific detailed times and dates. However, since 2002, I guess my memory cells stashed it too deep somewhere, and I can't easily recall specific dates, etc. (Con't)
Therefore, I guess you'll need to do your own research. One place to start is the Smithsonian. Also, put out your intention and the resources will come to you. One of my favorite quotes is: "When the Student is ready, the Teacher will come". :)
Why don't you start with Dee Brown's Bury MY Heart at Wounded Knee. That will give you the general history of white colonialism in this country towards it's Original People. And there are plenty of other books to read as well. Then again yo may have already read it.
Just because an anthropologist or journalist wrote it down, does not make it "accurate". People from one culture, such as Euro-American, had (and some still have) much difficulty understanding the thinking and "ways of being" of another culture. There are a lot of factors, such as their mis-understanding of the native's language, words, and interpretations of the words and culture, along with cultural biasedness and ethnocentrism.
who do we blame?human nature?brainwashing?the people that did this are our people, our ancestors, the indian has suffered beyond our conception or belief must be pissed.
Americans give us a serve over our treatment of the aborigines,we never tried to kill all the kangaroos to wipe them out, but it wasn't this generation(we are far more enlightened)
So this is my final response and I refuse to answer anymore of your hideously irrelevant questions... now before u scamper of and attempt to sound "intelligent" ... read, learn, and think before you go embarrassing your people with that flap jaw of urs!
So why don't you try learning about our culture before you go and make these illogical insinuations. You sound like a history text book that I was FORCED to learn in high school... how inaccurate, how sad it is to see what truths they have erased from history!... it's a LIE... everything is a LIE!!!
and thirdly... NO we were not biased societies... we were anything but! ... we lived hand in hand with the land... we did NOT exploit its resources, we were mere beings that cared for the land and all of the creators fascinating creations, we lived and died by the law of nature!.. nature in all its perfection is not biased... we didn't even know the meaning of the word "bias".
And here's a mind blower for you.... WHERE DO U THINK THESE OUTSIDERS GOT THE CONCEPTION OF DEMOCRACY?... it was virtually non-existent as part of their "advanced" civilization (governmentally wise)... they got it from US!! So go read a book or two that WERENT written by what the WHITE society calls "historical pioneers"!
etc.. but we dealt with it in peaceful manner... however there may have been a few instances where YES.. they did go to "war" as you would call it... but this is a matter of two of the same kind having a political disagreement... it was man against man... NOT man against women and children.. it was done respectfully... and those who died... died with pride and honour .
Counting coup taken to the next level.I'm not sure what the Huron and Mohicans did to each other, before the French and English showed up,but the two European nations sure fed that fire.Playing the two rival nations off each other, like kids on a playground.
so to answer your questions, NO i do not agree that we were barbaric, this is a common misconception that FRENCH/EURO/SPANIARD societies portrayed as a justification of their horrific actions and lack of consequences in committing genocide on our people... furthermore, NO it is not true what u read in ur governmentally tarnished history books... we did not wage war and wrath on one another.. yes there may have been some competition for land...
One of the "barbaric" practices,Native Americans were said to partake in was;dancing in the woods.Another was, cooking outdoors. These were also activities that made the tribal Irish "barbarians" to the Norman English.
majnoun-what about the barbaric history of the Indians?
Is it not true that many many Indian tribes way of life was to make war against their neighboring tribes?
majnoun-do you disagree that most Indian tribes were war basied societies?
... to me these sound like questions... that actually include a question mark.... i see many statement but thats just a metter of YOUR opinion... and i disagree...
hey robertleokelly... can u ban these retards plz?(homeyneedshelp):) i could understand if this person actually made sense and presented a logical argument... but gawd! its hopeless sometimes i tell ya! loool
well our pupulation was decreased by 95%... leaving only 5% of the native population left! we will not die out or "go away"... we are reclaiming what is ours!
You obviously don't know anything about history. The US has been using its' military to steal the land and resources of indigenous people since it was first founded. It used to be gold in Colorado it is now black gold in Iraq. If you can't see the comparison then you are a hopeless "patriot".
Again, you're an idiot! There's not a nation on this earth that wasn't built on soil occupied by someone else before it! You being an America hater and trying to discredit someone by using the word "patriot" as an insult, tells me your politics and I'm not impressed.
That's your reply? Can't respond to the body of my comment? Guess I made my point well eh? Who are you going to hate now? EVERY human being on earth? I'm sure your house is built on some sacred soil too... tear it down and give it back! Stand by your hatred of the US! Be a man... Not just an empty Lib...
You are not worth it but here goes. I take it that you think the slaughter of innocent women and children is fine as long is it is not your family being murdered. The passing out of blankets infected with small pox is fine with you as long as it is not your child dying. No doubt you are a born again christian.
robert- most indian tribes were war based socities killing their fellow Indian tribes long before whitey came. Indians simply lost the wars now they are disgruntled but the Indians sure wanted to defeat and subjugate whitey. Most indian tribes were not peacful but war based societies.
lmao... I GOT YOUR QUESTION... HOLY FAK... OOOOOOOBVIOUSLY I DONT AGREE WITH YOU...BUT SURE INFLATE THAT AIR HEad OF URS SOME MORE.. THERES NO USE TALKING TO A REPETITIOUS/IGNORANT/ SUPERFICIAL/ EGOTISTICAL/ MORONIC... INDIVIDUAL LIKE URSELF:)~~ have a nice day "whitey" loool
Natives understood that, once in a while, they might have to kill one another,BUT,they came up with this "counting coup" stuff to alleviate the bloodshed.Yes,it takes a strong man to kill another man,it takes a stronger man to not kill.Especially when he really wants to.(No,I don't want to kill you)
so your saying that all the other wars in the world had a right to war except for the native people, there was a reason we lost the war against the whites and it wasn't because we were the weaker nation, you are just feeling guilty about what u did to us
Hey! White man came and killed, deported many tribes, he made lot of promises they've never respected. As we say Natives they were the first inhabitants in this country don't forget that dancelikeawhiteman. Thanks Robert for posting
Layha-you need to research sand creek before you post again. There were raiders in that camp and Black Kettle was covering for them. Is this where the Alderdice woman was found? Not sure but she had been kidnapped and then when the troops charged they killed her on the spot-the indians did. NOt sure if it was here but regardless there were Indian raiders hiding behind Black Kettle. I have to double check but I think so.
Whatever the grown up Indians had done, did not justify the killing of children, even Indian children. And nothing ever justifies the disembowlment of pregnant women and the dismemberment of their breasts and crotches for personal pleasure and public display. And killing everyone to kill the few raiders is just bloodthirst murder.
I did an in depth study of the Sand Creek Massacre. The only thing the Aprapahos and the Cheyennes did "wrong",was defend successfully up to that point against the U.S.Army.They continually won and fled retribution, and J.M. Chivington gave a deceptive sense of secutiry that they would no longer face persecution,so that the warriors would be dozens of miles away to the east hunting, and that is when they organized this slaughter on the women, children, and elderly in the two camps.Who're raiders?
It's a very old tactic.Sam Houston took advantage of Mexicans, who'd lulled themselves into a false sense of security,at San Jacinto. The Mexicans used it themselves,on Geronimo's people. The Saxons used it in the Britons,in what is known as The Night Of Long Knives...It's cowardice at it's most self-serving.Make sure your opponents are old men, women and children---and "fight" to the death.I'm sure they thought it helped make them "seasoned veterans".
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
if you wanna kill off a race you gotta start with the children they all had 2 die or imagine how many indian reservation casinos there would be today ?
Even at that time, they had the schools that were re-culturizing Indian children. When grown, the infants and toddlers would've had no memeories,at all,of being Indians. Why kill,to prevent something that wouldn't have been there? To be truly, cruelly racist;turning the Indian children into fine, upstanding white citizens;would've been a crowning achievement.
how little you know about history. black kettle and his tribe were traveling, like many tribes who decided to give up their land instead of die. they fled in peace, many of them women and children, and on the morning of the attack, the majority of chivington's soldiers were piss drunk from the night before and decided it would be fun to surround the tribe and open fire, even when black kettle tried to explain they were there in peace.

robert kelly you claim to be a Vietnam vet but you insult today's combat vets, native and non-native with your dubious claims about 90% civilian casualties in Iraq.

This continued until there were no native-Americans left to slaughter or lands to steal.
logibear64 1 year ago
I have read that book and this massacre is one of many harrowing incidents, what's worse is that while the U.S was viewed as a country of freedom and liberty for its citizens, the Natives were not classed as citizens and therefore didn't have those rights, and this was one of the awful consequences.

There needs to rise a great Leader, an American-India Dalai Lama, who can bring the tribes together and stop the in-fighting and welfarism.

Yes. And, it is usually not even acknowledged as a holocaust despite the fact that there have been total extinctions of hundreds of North American native nations on this continent, alone. One method used for this was by "bioterrorism" that was committed by the US govn't when native people were given blankets purposely infested with small pox.
ayemaya75 2 years ago
Ward Churchill once invented such a story. I fell for it, too. It was a pure lie. It has been soundly refuted - by native scholars. Show me a single documented case to support your claim.I haven't found a single one.
Lookoo1 2 years ago
@Lookoo1
Of course you haven't found a "single documented case". Who does the "documenting"? Think about it. If someone committed a crime, do you think they would be foolish enough to admit it on paper?
ayemaya75 2 years ago
So, where do you have your information from? Who makes that claim, giving what kind of specifics?
As for your rhethorical question - people often talk about rheir crimes to confidantes who pass the story on until someone writes it down. Bystanders, accomplices, victims, survivors - historical incidents involve usually quite a number of people, many more people than just the perpetrators themselves. If you don't have any of this, it's just a completely unsubstantiated rumor.
Lookoo1 2 years ago
Part 1 of 2
@Lookoo1:
If so, what happens to the original statement after being passed to even only 1 or 2 people?
ayemaya75 2 years ago
Comment removed
ayemaya75 2 years ago
Part 2 of 2
@Lookoo1
Writing it down doesn't make it "truth".
ayemaya75 2 years ago
Part 1 of 2: Everything you write is quite right. That something is written down doesn't make it "true" and the Indians were an illiterate culture. That's why any source has to be carefully assessed as to its reliablity, crosschecking it with other sources, examining the plausibility of its content and the role of the originator of the source.
Lookoo1 2 years ago
Thankfully, a wealth of oral information by Indians has been recorded and written down, by mixed-blood people, anthropologists, journalists and a plethora of people who wrote letters, reports autobiographies etc.
Your claim of biological warfare through blankets is most severe. So, what do you know to substantiate that claim? Whodunnit? Who were the victims? When? Where? How?
Ward Churchill once made such a claim concerning the 1837 Upper Missouri smallpox epidemic.
Lookoo1 2 years ago
Part 3: He gave all the necessary information to make his case. It all collapsed, he had made it up, turned a trapper trading post into an army garrison, invented a post surgeon who withheld vaccines and told the sick indians to scatter. He quoted works in footnotes saying the opposite of what he claimed. He lost his job over this, and rightfully so. If you just heard the blanket story in a conversation and thus cannot give any sources you most likely heard of the Ward Churchill hoax.
Lookoo1 2 years ago
Part 1 of 2:
Lookoo1:
US Gold medals were awarded for native scalps.
ayemaya75 2 years ago
Part 2 of 2
Lookoo1: 3. Initially, my information came from a graduate school degreed and educated Lakota woman who grew-up on the reservation. Her information was passed on through her parents and ancestors. This information was later validated to me from other graduate school degreed Natives who also grew-up on reservations and came from other Native nations and tribes, in other areas of the country.
ayemaya75 2 years ago
Sounds interesting. Do you remember any specifics that could serve as a starting point for further research?
Lookoo1 2 years ago
@Lookoo1 :
The Smithsonian has archives of documentations during and around the 19th century. It usually requires a lot of time and research. Their attitude toward the Natives, and the treatment of them is indicated in these documents. If you are not racist and have a heart, it is horrible to read how human beings can treat other human beings that way.
ayemaya75 2 years ago
So, DO you remember any case specifics or not?
Lookoo1 2 years ago
Part 1 of 2
@Lookoo1:
(Con't)
ayemaya75 2 years ago
Part 2 of 2
@Lookoo1:
Therefore, I guess you'll need to do your own research. One place to start is the Smithsonian. Also, put out your intention and the resources will come to you. One of my favorite quotes is: "When the Student is ready, the Teacher will come". :)
ayemaya75 2 years ago
Why don't you start with Dee Brown's Bury MY Heart at Wounded Knee. That will give you the general history of white colonialism in this country towards it's Original People. And there are plenty of other books to read as well. Then again yo may have already read it.
crazyhorse99999 2 years ago
Lookoo1:
Just because an anthropologist or journalist wrote it down, does not make it "accurate". People from one culture, such as Euro-American, had (and some still have) much difficulty understanding the thinking and "ways of being" of another culture. There are a lot of factors, such as their mis-understanding of the native's language, words, and interpretations of the words and culture, along with cultural biasedness and ethnocentrism.

MajnounAnishinabe 4 years ago
One of the "barbaric" practices,Native Americans were said to partake in was;dancing in the woods.Another was, cooking outdoors. These were also activities that made the tribal Irish "barbarians" to the Norman English.

majnoun-what about the barbaric history of the Indians?
Is it not true that many many Indian tribes way of life was to make war against their neighboring tribes?
majnoun-do you disagree that most Indian tribes were war basied societies?
... to me these sound like questions... that actually include a question mark.... i see many statement but thats just a metter of YOUR opinion... and i disagree...

They must always have a way out. They lack humility. As you said, their books are tarnished.

well our pupulation was decreased by 95%... leaving only 5% of the native population left! we will not die out or "go away"... we are reclaiming what is ours!

Compare it to history, the Iraq comparisson is stupid. Don't insult history...
irish42matic 4 years ago
You obviously don't know anything about history. The US has been using its' military to steal the land and resources of indigenous people since it was first founded. It used to be gold in Colorado it is now black gold in Iraq. If you can't see the comparison then you are a hopeless "patriot".
robertleokelly 4 years ago
Again, you're an idiot! There's not a nation on this earth that wasn't built on soil occupied by someone else before it! You being an America hater and trying to discredit someone by using the word "patriot" as an insult, tells me your politics and I'm not impressed.

Nor I with you
robertleokelly 4 years ago
That's your reply? Can't respond to the body of my comment? Guess I made my point well eh? Who are you going to hate now? EVERY human being on earth? I'm sure your house is built on some sacred soil too... tear it down and give it back! Stand by your hatred of the US! Be a man... Not just an empty Lib...
irish42matic 4 years ago
You are not worth it but here goes. I take it that you think the slaughter of innocent women and children is fine as long is it is not your family being murdered. The passing out of blankets infected with small pox is fine with you as long as it is not your child dying. No doubt you are a born again christian.
robertleokelly 4 years ago
robert- most indian tribes were war based socities killing their fellow Indian tribes long before whitey came. Indians simply lost the wars now they are disgruntled but the Indians sure wanted to defeat and subjugate whitey. Most indian tribes were not peacful but war based societies.

MajnounAnishinabe 4 years ago
it wasn't a question it was a statement of the fact. On what basis don't you agree with me?
homeyneedshelp 4 years ago
Natives understood that, once in a while, they might have to kill one another,BUT,they came up with this "counting coup" stuff to alleviate the bloodshed.Yes,it takes a strong man to kill another man,it takes a stronger man to not kill.Especially when he really wants to.(No,I don't want to kill you)
Taranau 3 years ago 2
so your saying that all the other wars in the world had a right to war except for the native people, there was a reason we lost the war against the whites and it wasn't because we were the weaker nation, you are just feeling guilty about what u did to us
wuttunee1 2 years ago 2
@robertleokelly
That's exactly how they think. And there will never be moral equivilance. They would not argue with a Jewish Holocaust survivor.

hey danceslkeawhiteman research sand creek before u post again
Layha14 4 years ago
Layha-you need to research sand creek before you post again. There were raiders in that camp and Black Kettle was covering for them. Is this where the Alderdice woman was found? Not sure but she had been kidnapped and then when the troops charged they killed her on the spot-the indians did. NOt sure if it was here but regardless there were Indian raiders hiding behind Black Kettle. I have to double check but I think so.
homeyneedshelp 4 years ago
Whatever the grown up Indians had done, did not justify the killing of children, even Indian children. And nothing ever justifies the disembowlment of pregnant women and the dismemberment of their breasts and crotches for personal pleasure and public display. And killing everyone to kill the few raiders is just bloodthirst murder.

you are right
blueghostohio 3 years ago
I did an in depth study of the Sand Creek Massacre. The only thing the Aprapahos and the Cheyennes did "wrong",was defend successfully up to that point against the U.S.Army.They continually won and fled retribution, and J.M. Chivington gave a deceptive sense of secutiry that they would no longer face persecution,so that the warriors would be dozens of miles away to the east hunting, and that is when they organized this slaughter on the women, children, and elderly in the two camps.Who're raiders?
matinxray 3 years ago 6
It's a very old tactic.Sam Houston took advantage of Mexicans, who'd lulled themselves into a false sense of security,at San Jacinto. The Mexicans used it themselves,on Geronimo's people. The Saxons used it in the Britons,in what is known as The Night Of Long Knives...It's cowardice at it's most self-serving.Make sure your opponents are old men, women and children---and "fight" to the death.I'm sure they thought it helped make them "seasoned veterans".

This comment has received too many negative votes show
if you wanna kill off a race you gotta start with the children they all had 2 die or imagine how many indian reservation casinos there would be today ?
in with the new out with the old...
cholulasaucehot 3 years ago
