I thought it was strange where you kept your yeast. Most bakers refrigerate their yeast. That is where we keep it where I work, and at every bakery I have ever worked at. It stays fresher longer that way.
@annejilli ... I ususally have them in the "butter" sction of my fridge, but I had just bought them and they hadn't yet found thier way home. Good catch, no one else ever mentioned it :)
Honey is something I just started storing. I found d a great bread recipe for bread and it has no sugar. All so honey is great for burns. Learn more about honey and you will find you need to store more b/c it had more uses than you think.
@avon2891 ... I agree, I need to buy lots more honey. I also heard it is a great antibacterial and is great for wounds too. I'm hoping to find a better local source for it soon. Another great thing to stock up on is vinagar. Great for cleaning. Thanks for watching.
Have anyone seen corned beef (not corned beef hash) in the can at your supermarket lately? I've been trying to buy cans of it for my B.O, F.B supplies, I can not find it. I'm in Maryland.
@thechildrenofthelord ... Thank Goodness I am past the babies. I don't think I would have the strength anymore. My "babies" are 12, 16, and 17. step-daughters are 18, 20, 21 and 30. We also have 7 grandbabies.
@justmedee1959 Raisins were downstairs when I shot this. We go through so many with the kids that I sometimes "hide" them. Most of the time, if they aren't staring the kids in the face, the kids won't eat them so fast. I also "hide" extra ramen noodle soups from my son and extra vienna sausages from my daughter. LOL
@localboy32 ... My kids still say " Mom, there's nothing good to eat". My kids would probably love to trade Mom's with you, they love to eat out and always complain about it. I guess "the grass is always greener" applies even to food storage. :)
@xlagirl .. Bug out buckets or Bug out bags are a bucket/bag that you can grab if you must evacuate. My bucket has atleast 3 days of food for my family (could last longer) and a bug out bag is a bag that has all you need to keep you going (alive) for 3 days (or longer). It might have food, shelter, clothes, a way to disinfect water, first aid kit, ect. Remember Katrina? Some of them might be alive today if they had a bug out bag. Also called 72 hr. kit, get home bag, BOB, shtf bag, ect.
if you dont drink coffee it would still be a great thing to stock up on when its on sale. even the gross cheap stuff . coffee will be as good as money if the shtf. cool video though!!
@piketyl000 ... yea, I heard it will be a great barter item. How long does coffee in the can last? Is it better (longer shelf life) to buy canned or vacuume bagged? Would you suggest ground or instant for bartering? As you can tell, I know nothing about coffee. :)
@watuwaitn4 lol i dont drink coffee my self but i buy it from time to time when its cheap. i buy the kirkland signature dark roast in 3lb cans which is a lot of coffee and i just bought 6 lbs the other day and there good until 2012, so not that long and im not sure about the instant coffee but im going to check on that the nest time im at the store because if they store longer i might go that route because if things get bad im sure people will take instant coffee if they cant get anything els
@watuwaitn4 but i personally would suggest the the ground coffee in a can, and im sure you could squeeze an extra year out of it if you dont open it. but i know my parents cant stand the instant stuff. i think regular ground coffee would be more valuable than the instant stuff. and the vacuum sealed stuff i would think would last longer but iv never really looked at it.
@MrBillTroop73 ... yes, I grew up wershing my clothes and "redding up" my room when it got dirty. Thank goodness we never lived in Wershington! Funny how you pick things up from your parents and grow up saying them yourself. LOL
@jhynesyahoo ... are you talking about Butter buds? They are shelf stable powdered imitation butter. Add instead of butter. We have 3 kids that live with us right now. I have 4 step-kids (who have lived with us on and off), and 6 step-grandkids (2 lived with us last year), and 1 step-grandkid on the way. Bunch of family!
@watuwaitn4 wow ,well done. ive only one, though my grandmother has you beat, she had 18 (16 living) kids, 30+grand kids and 18 great grandkids, no joke.

Question? What's a BUG OUT bucket? Obviously to keep the bugs out, but what do you put in them and what are they used for?

You can add about 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla to the envelope of powdered milk and it will make it taste much better......just a little tidbit.
