I just spoke with a friend, talking about the whole Saw series. I always liked the idea that this series is kinda like a Christian idea of a horror movie because they're about finding redemption through horrible experiences.

I noted to my friend that Saw 3 actually had a lot of crucifixation imagery, especially the guy on the rack trap. Interesting concepts....sadly, Saw 4 and 5 just suck. Hoffman can't replace Tobin Bell....

@83phatman I think Hoffman does a pretty good job actually. Sure, John was better but he's dead now and we should be happy Hoffman carries it on or the SAW franchise would have already ended. Besides, Tobin Bell is still playing in every movie so it's not like we should miss him as if he's gone. And most of the stuff done is at John's request anyway (SAW VI for example) so the only thing Hoffman does is execute it cause John can't do it anymore.

To me the most disgusting trap in any of the movies is the one where the rotting pig carcasses are all ground up and the nasty juices almost suffocates that judge. I couldn't watch it. :P yet i didn't even squirm during the turning rack on the criminal. haha

The 3rd ended so perfectly & wrapped up everything so wellm it seems cheapened by making a fourth.

I thought this franchise is excellent. Yeah, the gore is a lot, but its the stories that make these movies good. Saw 1 was great, saw 2 sucked, and saw 3 was incredible as well. 3 and 1 were terrific because of the stories, and the plot for saw 4 seems good too. They get more and more interesting.
