  • @imyy4upeople1 I've noticed that too, she coins words to sell books. It's a huge syphoning scheme. Something is eerie about having Naomi being a spokes person and building her career off the misfortune of others. Maybe I just don't like idols and generalists who amazingly know the details of lives theyve never lived.

  • A great book. Cudos, Ms. Klein. I know who the Boogeymen and Boogeywomen are today: The Tea Party. They scare me; I'm not prepared to depart from reality and live in their parallel universe. You should write a book about them and the money behind them.

  • give up the fear, and put faith first, Love rules

  • She is beautiful. And the book is superb.

  • She looks amazing here.

  • Everybody who wants to be aware should read thar book!

  • this is just SUCH bullshit. i can't watch anymore. this is as thoughtful and evided an idea as hitler's for killing the jews.

  • No wonder the right hates Jewish people, they're the ones you can rely to rumble their stupid pyramid schemes and myths.

    Marx.Freud.Klein

...to mention 3 and probably not even the best 3

  • @laika288 marx's ideas are scum. the right doesn't hate jews. naziism was as left-wing and statist as the come. the soviets continued to use the concentration camps after the nazis surrendered. i remeber when i was like you. trust me, the ideas are scary and bizzare in hindsight. everybody would be oppressed and depressed under a marxist state.

  • @samm1809 Of course the right hates Jews; even the neo-conservative Zionists...their motivation

National socialism was not a left wing ideology, it relied on glorification of the rural which is the hallmark of European conservatism.

Stalinism was not a left wing ideology, it was despite what John Gray tells you a revival of Tsarist absolutism. His anti-semitism was a national authoritarianism that could never comprehend the value of cosmopolitan liberty which is crucial to the revolution.

  • @laika288 ofcourse. no attempts to persue statist ideas in the past have been genuinely marxist or socialist or left. anybody who tries to learn from results is a fool. nobody listen to them.

  • @samm1809 As for Marx his ideas are spot on, nobody has ever provided such an excellent foundation for criticism of political economy and political sociology. I'm not necessarily a Marxist as I don't agree with his strategy for change, I'm probably far more of a utopian socialist if the truth be told but that doesn't get me very far in attempting to analyse international relations.

Also for your information, you have never been like me in your life so don't big yourself up like that.

  • @laika288 marxist, socialist, statist, collectivist, nazi, communist CALL IT WHAT YOU WANT! it's all the same shit based on control and the enslavement and duty of one human being to another based on alturistic and forceful government. yes i have beel like you. naive about the scummy 'utopian' ideas of the left, which 'truth be told' are founded on the enforcement of one person's creative ideas on a population.

  • @samm1809 yeah because like all communitarianism is the same; you are still naive it seems. You have never been me and nobody has ever been me. You seem to be a cosmopolitan but you miss the underpinning point: I am me. My advice would be to move past cosmopolitanism and come join us in the post-cosmopolitan community; rights and responsibilities works. As Klein and John Gray (very different authors) argue, utopia is not limited to the Left; it is just as integral to the neo-liberal right.

  • @laika288 no, i was once like you- then i realised that socialism is for undereducated arrogant fools. it's not about creating a utopia- it's about preventing a dystopia. everybody loves sweden these days because it is considered a socialist utopia that should be coppied by any nation if they want to be concidered 'progressive' or -klein's favourite big word- 'egalitarian'. they ignore the fact that that's exactly how people viewed germany in the period leading up to the nazi's rule.

  • @samm1809 You sound awfully a lot like a religious person when you say that you were like me, and that I somehow need to be saved and enlightened. Your politics is just as utopian as mine in the traditional sense. I can't believe that you are drawing a comparison between Sweden's social democracy and Nazi Germany! I have to be honest I nearly fell of my seat at that one. Scandinavia proves that interventionist liberalism is a good route to democracy; a better route than the Washington model.

  • @laika288 i have no utopian desires. utopian thought relies on collective thought. and it's not me that's made the comparison- it's friedrich hayek, and he provided more than substancial evidence as to why. not NAZI germany, but the direction that sweden is heading in at the moment is very similar to the direction that germany was heading in in the decades leading up to hitler's rule- everybody has a pet plan for organising society. the road to hell is paved with good intentions.

  • @samm1809 no, utopian thought relies on a re-visualisation of society that all modern political ideology relies on including neo-liberalism that seeks to destroy community and plunder social capital on a global scale. Every political ideology seeks to re-organise society regardless of strategy and philosophical underpinning. Living in the UK, in the regions outside the South and the Midlands we know that Hayekism/Thatcherism did not work.....devastating.

  • @laika288 that's because 1) the uk is the worst example of a democracy in human history and 2) they didn't get rid of the federal reserve, so don't event try and bring hayek into it. besides worked or not, it worked a lot better than the socialist ideals that were in place before thatcher saved your ass and kept you out of the euro. you are a perfect example of a person who cruises down the road to serfdom. no more retards who listen to cult leader journalist naomi klein talk to me please.

  • @samm1809 hard to believe that your not a socialist then, you sound so pompous and arrogant, way too far up your own ass to believe or even consider other peoples points or view. And using nazis as examples is way off bat, sweden has some of the highest taxes in the world, but if you speak to swedes they are happy to pay them as they get services worthwhile from them. their standard of living right across the social scales are far higher than other "western" nations. speaks for itself

  • @wiley789 taxes are high, but they get the revenue that they use to pay for said services from a sales tax, not an income tax. the average joe pays a much higher percentage of income than a filthy rich entrepenuer, but they get the same services. more importantly, sweden may have a working and efficient healthcare system, but they are very light on innovation and inventions. they get their healthcare products from other nations. sweden's socialism relies on other nation's capitalism.

  • This woman makes me want to punch the screen.... actually, so does that presenter - what a smug git.

  • 3rd generation on the public trough.

  • beauty with brains

  • she is actually retarded

  • I was looking for the dictionary definition of a self-hating Jew and Noemi's picture was there

  • she is pretty

  • She makes a lot of sense, its not propoganda, I live in Ireland. The birthplace of the one of the fathers of gflobalization, Peter Sutherland. Remember he founded the WTO. This country was used as a play thing by scumbag free marketeers and unfortunatley it failed miserably. Its not propoganda, its fact and proof can be seen everyday in my home town. I hate ye free market idiots, society and government matter. Friedman is burning in hell

  • @tullinadaly

Friedman is probably a tool, but I thought Ireland has improved? Granted I'm thinking over a longer time period......

  • Government handouts are an example of extreme "free-marketism?" Does she actually not understand what she's talking about?

  • you are retarded

  • @vancouver11 she is like a female version of michael moore. she (just like all the liberal idiot here) doesnt understand what a free market is. bailout and wars are an example of a government gone mad. communism lost, why are we still listening to idiots like her. also i wonder where she got her clothes from? did she pay CAPITAL for it in a MARKET. did she sell her propaganda documentary and books in a MARKET. these people are a joke. someone needs to get rid of her car, refrigerator etc...

  • @bonfirejovi

Congratulations, you managed to make three grandiose strawman's in one YouTube comment.

    1) She was against the bailouts

    2) She is against the wars

    3) She is not a communist, if you read the new introduction to No Logo she considers herself a moderate "anti-corporatist" rather than an "anti-capitalist"

I've met Naomi Klein, she is an incredibly kind and dedicated person, and her books have some of the most refreshing ideas and attractive writing in the past 10 years.

  • Naomi Klein is nothing more than a charlatan. She erroneously conflates corporatism and free-markets, slanders deceased academics and derives pleasure from misquoting people. I despise her just as a I despise all propagandists.

  • As usual. She still thinks that this is a democracy. Her foundational problem is that we have a constitutional representative republic that is elected democratically.

She's a social engineer herself, and has an agenda that consists of misinformation. She's using shock as well!

  • LOL ¡¡¡¡YOU ARE THE MAN!!!!!, Of course she is using misinformation!!!!, thats why her version of the truth has been soo widespread, to block the "thinking" people from accepting REAL thruths like the one´s exposed in zeitgeist or in ENDGAME, of course that explains why is she a prrety face, to give her more credibility

  • naomi klein is not right, thats why they have let her talk so much, where can i contact her? to tell her everything I know?

  • so you seem to have all the answers janohermano , i'd love to hear more !!!!!!

  • lol man I dont know them all but I do know a lot of them, unfortunately that is a really Large theme of discussion, but i do can give you a hint of what i know and that is part of why they have let her talk that much: Naomi says that they are in a constant awareness of what could happen, and then, when the shock manifests they act, I will tell you this, Believeit or not They DO createthe shock, and they have created a lot of shocks to control people, swine flu, 9/11, WW 1-2, economycrash n more

  • We're still waiting for your arguments genius!

  • lol.... so you were just being sarcastic.... you know, wathever man, I suggest that if you really want to know the answer, go and search in the web, by yourself, I just tell you that naomi klein isn´t completely right, and there is a lot of people that will tell you the same, I dont give you any arguments couse its better for you to find it yourself than someone telling you that

  • its just the other way baby, im sorry but you are wrong naomi. So cute but not really into history. Its under any kind of chock doctrine that government imposes social sanctions and heavy regulations on the little free market that is left. Where in the world would she refer to when she mentions "radical free market policies" - such policies arent to found anywhere in the world. True capitalism hasnt even had its chance to shine on everybody and already we got cute faces like this discarting it.

  • Read her book, it's very obvious you haven't.

  • You sure you're talking about the right system? It's not capitalism that's dwindling. It's alive and well in Guatemala, Guyana, Mozambique, Laos, Cambodia, Nicaragua, Lybia, Syria, El Salvador (not a complete list). In each of these countries, the people are poor, save for a few superrich. When the people get out of line, in come the cops and the troops, and if that doesn't work, torture. See: Alfred McCoy and MIchael Parenti and Thorstien Devlin (I'm out of space, but there are more).

  • its shock , not chock !! read it , you might learn something !!

  • if you think you learned something from "the shock doctrine", you have been deceived.

    Naomi supports the shock doctrine.

"...do we want to USE THIS CRISIS, and the electoral mandate for change delivered by the last election, to radically transform that system? We need to get clear on our answer now because we havent had the potent combination of a SERIOUS CRISIS and a clear progressive democratic mandate for change since the 1930s. WE USE this opportunity or we lose it."

    watch?v=tqLAYg6pDGg

  • That is a quote directly from her book, and yes i did read it.

In the future, if you tell a student or a journalist that you favor free markets and limited government, there is a risk that they will ask you why you support dictatorships, torture, and corporate welfare. The reason for the confusion will be Naomi Klein's book.

She is the pinnacle of pseudo-intellectuals behaving in a deceiving, anti-intellectual manner.

She is very deceptive and dishonest in her research

  • hot girls tend to seem more right. all the guys know it's easier to agree with a hawt gal.

  • read the book !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • she is so great at what she does

    and so hot...

  • I agree, she's intelligent & gorgeous!!

    *drool*

  • Who's this dick??

  • A very intelligent Canadian who leads a show that has won many Gemini Awards and has guest starred many prominent figures. He's a heck of a lot smarter than most of the junk-spewing hosts that are out there.

  • What a beautiful lady! i think i'm in love!

  • I dont see why there cant be shows that hold a givin perspective, its not as if you have to pick one news sorce and its your only one for the rest of your life.

  • The Hour is nothing more than a left wing partisan show. Where's the counterpoint to the argument? I would be surprised if they were to get a guest like Congressman Ron Paul, Alan Greenspan, or maybe even Naomi Wolf. I would gain more respect for the CBC if they were to set out and interview Congressman Ron Paul but I doubt that will happen because he would probably debunk their political agenda and make them look like fools. Look at both sides of the issue people. You'll thank youself later.

  • Viewing a single episode of a "left wing, partisan show" and agreeing with it does not mean that you have not been well exposed to the right wing's arguments.

  • It's not a matter of left or right; it's a matter of truth against propaganda. If people want to believe that free markets and trade are synonymous with disaster capitalism, then that's just a belief in a nonsensical argument without merit. In order for our economy to survive, free trade and free markets are necessary. Regulations are necessary but not to the extent where there's tariff after tariff from governments diminishing the concept of a free market.

  • where is this coming from? Did i mention any of naomi klein's ideas?

  • Free market for "small is beautyfull" and freemarket for "never will I get enough money and power to get more money and power..." aren't the same things.

  • Fox News, The Toronto Star, The Toronto Sun, and CBC are one in the same because they're both partisan stations expressing their own political agenda. Noam Chomsky can even tell you about National Public Radio, a very left of centre media outlet, limiting his comments to the point that they promoted their message and not his own. Everyone must go beyond the media and see things first hand before they buy into the bullshit the media forces down our throats.

  • Yay i know about that chomsky thing thanks, its on another youtube vid. And my point was that you can still whach The Hour and get their, as you claim, left-wing, main stream media perspective, and also have listend to many other non main stream voices

  • You'll never see a Milton Friedman supporter on any CBC show simply because it doesn't support their message. A person would have to be incredibly naive to believe that the CBC tells the truth all the time. I had to laugh over the supposed controversy when Stephen Harper was about to read a news article in parliament and the CBC tried to make it into a defamation case. Later on, they try to make Harper look like a criminal with the Chuck Cadman affair. There's no evidence; only attacks.

  • I have seen many episodes of "The Hour" and I have NEVER seen any attempt to bring on a guest who isn't on the left side of the political spectrum. The Hour doesn't offer any real dialogue whatsoever. If you can provide me with a guest that's been on The Hour that has not been associated with left wing politics, I would be happy to take back my argument.

  • Vicente Fox.....doesn't get much more right wing than that...

  • Yeah, I do recall seeing him on the show. Other than that, there isn't anyone else who happense to be pro capitalism or laissez faire. I would love to see them have Ron Paul on the show or Peter Schiff. Now that would be something to see.

  • I'm reading Shock Doctrine right now... It's amazing how Naomi is capable of turning from case studies to world politics. This book should be read in every Latin American High School.

  • Man, she is incredible. So intelligent, so eloquent.

  • prove her wrong

  • Prove her right.

  • youre fictional

  • So are you. Naomi Klein is telling us the truth story.

  • just my own observations. We WANT to believe in our leaders. meaning 911 was not an inside job, is still the prevailing view of the establishment, naomi steers clear of this as does most Mainstream Media. MSM. So i mean collectively we behave as sheep. Individually we may have all sorts of questions, but we keep them amoungst ourselves, for the most part. There would have been a revolution in the US if this were not the case.

  • There are way to many anomalies around 9-11 to be taken at face value. The evidence in resoundingly inconclusive. Fuel can't melt steel the way 1, 2 and 7. Naomi has potentially only half the story.

  • Take advantage of shock... better yet why not create it.. Socialist tendancies were routed by the "red scare" of the 20's. 3 towers fell on 9-11, it LOOKS like they were taken down, purposefully. See Zeigeist. We want to believe in authourity, to be sceptical or to truly question is not in our basic nature.

  • "We want to believe in authourity, to be sceptical or to truly question is not in our basic nature."

I don't know where you read that or what you're basing it on. That is powerful ignorance.

  • Do you really think Donald Trump has millions of times more ability than a Puerto Rican maid in New Jersey or a now-homeless Iraq war vet? Or, for that matter, children born into poor families? You're right that inequality is mathematically inevitable, but the current inequality is just obscene.

  • But if we are to be rewarded according to our abilities, and ability is for what ever reason unequal in its distribution for a society to be just there must be a income inequality.

  • agreed.

  • If market economics are incompatible with democracy why did Costa Rica just pass CAFTA trade agreement through a public referendum?'

Cosa Rica is not in a recession does not have a authoritarian government or a military or a public crisis of any sort and yet they voted for the trade agreement contrary to her thesis.

  • Why label it capitalism, only to admit, its not a free-market but government-sponsored corporatism? Capitalism is the antithesis of corporatism. It irks me when people smear the word with misinformation.

I'm sure she raises some interesting points in her book, but her describing wealth as static and needing to be distributed equally, its disturbing. Equality is not freedom.

  • It is not being labeled "capitalism" but "disaster capitalism".

Inequality paves the way for suppression and exploitation.

  • I dont think Naomi is praising the system of capitalism in any context, from other articles Ive read of hers. Your comment on equality is ironic considering the most brutally repressive regimes devised are all in the name of equality. Freedom and equality are not synonymous.

  • "..the most brutally repressive regimes devised are all in the name of equality"

key-phrase: "in the name of", just as (disaster)capitalism is in the name of freedom (and democracy, more often than not).

"Freedom and equality are not synonymous."

    Nor are freedom and inequality.

  • The key difference is disaster capitalism is not capitalism as Naomi admits in this interview. Additionally a society in which all members are equal is by definition repressive as individuals are naturally not identical, nor should they ever be.

  • Naomi specifically talks about disaster capitalism, she does not "admit" to anything regarding capitalism.

Equality is not about "being equal" - it is about equal rights and equal opportunities.

  • not equality of outcome equality of opportunity. Outcomes that allow people to be billionaires and be rewarded according to their abilities.

  • People who speak of inequality of wealth distribution implicitly speak of equality of outcome as well, since they infer wealth to be a static quantity.

  • (My last comment is generally directed to Naomi Klein, not davidmesaaz)

  • Awesome.

  • too bad she is married...

  • she's pretty.

  • Canada's CFR member is Brian Mulroney.

Canada's Foreign Relations Critic is Stockwell Day (appointed by Harper).

    Remember Montebello Quebec?

What were the corporations that attended?

  • Nothing will change unless the people get a clue. read this book folks. spread the word before they take every right we have.

  • 2/2 But least we forget the ego-centric politician who is out for future monitary gain and re-election at any cost.

  • Time for a form of direct democracy to be introduced as a way of governing our selves, and out with representitive democracy where todays overwelmingly majority of politicians have can broken the trust with the people they were elected to represent and are more enthused to represent the super wealthy and special interest groups, such as the corporate interests, faith based institutions, and lobby groups especially when they are foreign.

    1/2

  • ms klein is sound,i was just being a cunt.i still think mens' judgement is impaired when confronted with female beauty, from the dumbest to the smartest.mine is anyway.

  • Interesting ideas. We knew politicians and corporate lobbyist are pretty focused on their work: getting their wallet bigger. But doing it in moments of crisis when everyone else is busy surviving is a plain dirty strategy. Citizens cannot trust that politicians work on their behalf anymore. There is too much money involved in politics...citizens have to get involved or else business-politicians keep on pulling fast ones on them.

  • She is just a pretty face of capitalism

making lots of money selling books on TV.

    Pretty words that mean nothing.

  • thankyou

  • Way to respond to the content of her argument.

  • nice lady,i'm sure.

  • good stuff this are thinkers that shake the world & sometimes we need to listen cause its true

  • i love the art of bs.

  • speak for yourself.
