One reason why Jerseyans are very thankful for their state is because when you cross a bridge to enter a border state of NJ, you pay a toll, usually somewhat ridiculous. You don't pay to enter New Jersey, because unlike PA and NYS, New Jersey doesn't have a major city/destination just past the state line. I know you reside in Georgia Freewayjim, but pretend you were a NJan. Would you find that a good thing or a bad thing? The reason why many Jerseyans find this to be good is to bash the bashers!
What happened over the past year? I couldn't access this video during that long time and I missed it very badly! Why is it back on the road again now?
@LIRR175 Thank you. I am paying cash, I don't live in an EZ-Pass state, I'd rather not have to deal with potential questions at a toll booth about my camera setup in the front seat, capeesh?
@LIRR175 Thank you for your understanding, I took the camera down at toll booths in recent videos of Chicago as well, I mean, why invite scrutiny if you don't have to?
@Freewayjim That invites the question, since you posted the video of your camera setup, how did you take it down and put it back up so quickly? Or did you just turn it off?
i believe theres a yearly pass thats cheaper....but its still just a cash grab to get onto the island ur right. I think the whole idea is to discourage a lot of automobile traffic and encourge public transit.
I even see that major dip on the West Side Hwy somewhere around 100th St, before 95th. I used to hit that as fast as I could and my daughter loved it. Your stomach would float for a second as if you were falling on a roller coaster.
You are awesome! This was my exact commute into the city for years to get my daughter for the weekend. I lived on Pleasant Ave in Weehawken and she lived on Central Park West at 88th street. I took the exit near the Boat Basin. Thanks for the ride. It was always calm in the mornings. The evening was a different story. Everyone coming back from Washington, Upstate NY, Jersey, Connecticut, etc. made it a mess.
You know, it's funny. I've lived in New York for 20 years and know it like the back of my hand, but once you passed 125th St you woundn't be able to tell that you were driving in new york city.
Jim, this vid represents why I love your stuff so much. Exactly 9 weeks ago today, right about this time as I type this on a Sunday morning, I was on the NJ Turnpike traveling to Yankee Stadium. I was visiting a friend in Neptune, NJ and we were driving to see the new Stadium. Thanks for the post.
if you look closely, the stop sign is necessary. The US 1/ 9 North off ramp is directly to the right of that merge and doesn't really have deceleration ramp for drivers exiting off on 495.
I don't actually. I noticed it all from the video and I've been on that road quite a few times in the passenger seat. I didn't pay any attention to why the car stopped until you mentioned it and realize there was a stop sign in place. As soon as I notice the off ramp directly to the right of that sign, I realize why their was a stop sign there.
The northern section (Exit 7A, north) is designated as I-95. Below 7A to the DelMem bridge has no designation other than the NJTP. Now you are driving in my neck of the woods. Great job on this
Reminds me of where I live Chicago

Did anyone note the Amtrak Empire Service Train on the former NY Central line come into the picture right after the 125th Street Exit @ 4:11.

1:10~1:40 is so rural looking it's hard to believe that you’re just a few miles from
Manhattan.

@MyMultimedia Oh I agree, I think it would be nice not to have to pay to go "home" if I were from NJ.

@LIRR175 Because I did not use it, I started the video from the Sheraton in Weehawken.
Freewayjim 6 months ago
@Freewayjim Also, can you not leave out the tollbooths if you're NOT paying cash? Or is there some other reason to leave them out?
Thanks, your videos are excellent!

@LIRR175 My son pops it off the tripod and back on as we roll away from the toll booth, I could not do it alone.

I lived near the GWB, you should have turned the camera to the right to see the empire state building and New York Skyline.

$ 8 is pretty steep if you have to pay that 5 days a week, 45 weeks a year = $ 1800 just to enter NYC.
