pls help me i installed windows xp on 40 gb hard drive i changed 20 gb hard drive but now when computer restarts and normal windows xp starting thing pops there coming: UNMOUTABLE_HARDDRIVE Something tht and then i did it with the 20 gb same again then i tryed to install xp on my 320 gb drive its secondary drive on harddrives PLS HELP MEE I SUBBED U MAN

@IH8LifesSucks not quite sure what you mean but sounds like something is stuffed. IDE or SATA drives? Master/slave jumpers correct if IDE? you should see the drives listed in the BIOS if they are connected correctly and working.

@THSO360mods Did you do a clean install, are you using the correct license key. Have you tested the hard drive for any malfunction. Is the RAM OK, have you tested that.

i have windows 7 and i want windows xp,when i go to bios and select boot device 1:cd/dvd,boot device 2:sata-Dm-hdd....and i put cd of xp sp3 and the setup wont start?

when i boot from my windows re installation disk theres just a black screen with a

blinking "_"(underschool) symbol instead of getting the blue screen

i got windows xp service pack 3 pro but it does not let me install it when i click install

@ragamb1 I am not sure what you are trying to do? Install service pack 3 on an existing XP SP2 installation or re-install XP with a service pack 3 bundled disc. You need to back up all your files first onto external media, such as external hard drive or usb flash drive. then set your bios to boot from CD, then start your computer with XPSP3 disc in drive and press keys when prompted on boot up to boot from CD which will start the installtion process from the XPSP3 CD. You can repair or reinstall

i have not got the cd for the for the installation but i got a licence as i purchesed my dell desktop in 2005. how could i re-install windows, as i just got the licence and not any OS disks

@Vetroify you can either buy a replacement set from dell for your model or email microsoft with a photo of your licence sticker and they will sell you a replacement CD for a small cost or borrow a friends install CD which must be the same version as the sticker you have, eg XP home or XP pro SP2 etc. Then download all the drivers you need for your Dell model and install the drivers :-)

Yes, install your new hard drive and boot from the recovery disc that came with your computer

it will probably be different, but it wont be hard, just boot from the disc and select an option which will restore the computer to original factory settings. Just read what the screen says and you should be able to get through it. just use all available space on the drive if asked, it should create partitions etc automatically. good luck with it

I don't know about mac but sounds like you want to dual boot, do a google search for how to do dual booting & mac on windows? that's another story, maybe someone else has done it and can answer that one.

you need to press del when the computer first starts to enter BIOS and change boot order to CDROM first then save and exit BIOS. or you may be able to press another button to enter boot options. Read your screen at first start to see all available options. I will do a video on this shortly

@thakranboyhacker You need to boot from XP disc and follow this video, then go to dell website and download and install the drivers for your model pc. Or you may have a restore disc set or partition on your hard drive which has the image you can boot from by pressing one of the "F" buttons, see your users manual for which button to press.

In this video I just used all the space to make 1 partition. But you can divide a hard drive into multiple partitions which will create additional drives, such as E:, F: G:

The partition we have created here is for the windows installation and will be drive C:

what if you have a torrent windows xp pack 3 i think it is... and you use it on a new hard drive what will happen?

Im not sure about torrents, but if you use a XP SP3 install you must have an SP3 issued key to go with it, otherwise you will get caught in an activation loop

oh ok.. well i did the windows 7 download and im just trying to get my XP back so, now i dont have a windows7 insalation disk but a Windows Xp disk. and it wont let me intall it over windows 7.. so i need help.. lol

well you need to backup whatever you want to keep on to whatever media you can, then boot with the xp disc and do a fresh install and format your hard drive as part of the install process
