  • classic!!!

  • good movie.. classic 80's style

  • Right into the green moon of Rylos, when it was in full eclipse no doubt.

  • Am I the only guy who thinks the beginning bits of synth in this sound remarkably like Vangelis' work in Blade Runner?

  • @Ottoman1337 I thought so too.

  • @Ottoman1337 I here it too lol

  • @Ottoman1337 I hear it too lol

  • @Ottoman1337

    It IS Blade Runner.

  • funny

  • Man, this is a awesome end. :D

  • Wow, that is the biggest ship ever created! Either that or the universe's tinyest moon.

  • The effects look even worse than those in Babylon 5.

  • @VitoPossilipo What do you expect from 1990?

  • @weldonwin Thank you for the reply. But the movie is from 1984. Nevertheless, I find the fx terrible. It had been better if they had used models instead of CGIs.

  • @VitoPossilipo The point still stands. CGI was a brand new technology and here it allowed them to do stuff that would have been very difficult to do with models. Also note that not all the ship effects are done by CGI.

Remember that B5 ran from around 1990/91 up till 1996/97 or there's abouts and given the rate at which visual effects tech evolves, its really not fair to make comparisons between two movies/shows seperated by up to a decade appart.

  • @VitoPossilipo

The Last Starfighter was partially an experimental movie in terms of the effects. Is it entirely successful? No. Is it an important milestone in visual effects history? Yes.

The movie wasn't made with 21st century teenagers in mind.

  • @weldonwin hahaha dude, star wars was made in 1977 and its special effects are way better than this

  • todd rundgren ?????

    VANGELIS !!!!!!!!!!!

  • It's hard to believe that the special effects for this movie were done with a cray super computer.

For the time it was fantastic. Now you can do better with a home PC or Mac.

I'd love to see a sequel. It 's too bad Robert Preston or Ed O'herlihy (spelling?) wouldn't be in it.

  • @TomatoeAssassin

    It's Daniel O'Herlihy.

  • @KaitainCPS

    Whoops. Sorry. :)

  • someone aped the soundtrack from Blade Runner for the beginning of this...

  • I don;t think it's supposed to come of that way, but this reminds me of some Space Balls shit. This movie looks funny as hell.

  • I haven't been to the movies in almost 2 years, mainly cause I don't want to pay $20 to see a flick, but if this came to the Cinema, I'd make an exception.

  • I read online that a studio is trying to make a sequel.

Let's just hope they don't give it to Michael Bay

  • OH MY GOD!!!

Does anyone else recognize the opening music intro????

    It's from the movie....

    BLADERUNNER (starring Harrison Ford)

    I just noticed..

  • The early CGI animation actually looks quite great in many spots. Although there is the occasional ify effect here and there , it works because this movie is about a video game. Much like in the vain of Tron. And you certainly can't get much better than the fun and quality of this gem of a movie.

  • This movie makes me all nostalgic.

  • It does most people too. A Great classic movie.

  • je je.

  • The Last Starfighter, As a weekly TV show?!!! huh! -- Could work maybe!!

  • @MrJeffreydunson

Why did you get a negative for this? Some of these U-Tubers just have there head up ther ass all the time. I just don't get it. Like you deserve a negative for harmlessly saying how you feel.

  • @jayce79, Well I do understand that some of the U-Tubers, are hard-liners, regarding - no Sci-fi Shows are worthy to be viewed on network TV, But... ST : TNG. While, Babylon 5, was permitted!!! then along came,--- SG-1; etc..., and being on TV for 10-yrs, is considered blasphemy (die-hards!!!!), and now my disloyalty, for even thinking the above!!! BSG, was to cool!!! now the thought of the "Last Starfighter" is like "TOP GUN" in space, on TV ?!! is to much for some to handle!!!

  • @MrJeffreydunson

Ha , that could work mabie. You never know. Even sound's kinda fun. With the right cast and people involved. It could be quite special. Are they thinking about doing this? The last I heard they were talking about a sequel.

  • @MrJeffreydunson

what in the fuck are you rambling on about?

  • lulz, hoorah for bad 80s CGI XD

  • I LOVED THIS MOVIE!

  • if you think about it? its like an old cowboy western movie... the little guy kills the bad guys and gets the girl.. Cant beat getting the girl...LOL

  • "What do we do!?"

    "We die!"

    w00t!

  • "We die . . ." great line

  • definetly suits the movie

  • Vangelis ................ Interesting.

  • Blade Runner music?

  • haha:D

    funny

  • Why does the bad guy flip his eye thing on when he says "we die"? xD that's hilarious

  • He's obviously been trained by Horatio Cain from CSI Miami.

  • But did Galoka believe the Ulu were too ugly to save?

  • Did Chris Columbus stay home because he was too afraid?

  • Redo ?! No body would fit the bill in this time period!

  • Never! The movie is perfect as it is. There's no need for a redo ... people just need to appreciate it as it is.

If nothing else, no one -- NO ONE! -- could play Centauri better than was already done.

  • @1TBWickle

    Amen to that.

  • I can still remember Alex and Grigg talking when Alex finds out that they have to take on the whole enemy fleet alone.

Alex,"It's going to be a slaughter!"

    Grigg,"That's the spirit!"

  • I said it then, and i´m saying it again. This movie has one of the coolest ending lines for the badguy.

    *Frantic officer*

    "What do we do?"

    *Calm and collected Commander*

    "We die."

  • One of my favorite lines of all movies of all times...first saw it when I was 8 or 9, and 20 years later, I still remember and love that one!!!!!!!!!

  • Thank you for posting. I saw this film with my dad on HBO before. Usually 80's films I like a lot because it took over 3 or 2 years to come out on video later, unlike today, it takes less than 3 or 4 months. The acting was much better than it is today. ^_^

  • Nice film!

  • Alot of the 80`s films could be redone..just think of redoing this one..it would be amazing..fantastic story characters the lot but with amazing CGI. So many films of 80s would if done now be box office blockbusters easily. The stories in films today are too complex and over done with the drama..not enough good old fasion kids adventure.

  • I Know what you mean. All you have to do is compare this movie with Wing Commander, and you'll pretty much realise why Wing Commander failed while this slightly happier story succeeded.

  • You have been recruited by the starleague to defend the frontier against Zur and the Kodan armada!

  • Greetings Starfighter!

  • Playing Starfox always reminded me of this great flick.

  • tron cgi looks primitive compared to this beauty.

  • "actually"

  • Yes, I actualy watched this today.

  • lol you didn't leave the deathblossom part in.

    still a cool film

  • One of the greatest movies ever.

  • I agree.
