I am curious to why the parachute failed to deploy. Was it anything to do with the effect of temperature causing mechanical failure or was it some other issue caused during initial flight time ?
@Solitarious2011 What actually happened was that the 'chute became brittle in the cold and it physically snapped into two pieces when it was subjected to the shock of inflating suddenly. We use cross form parachutes because of their drift reduction properties but this means there are thinner sections of material and this caused the failure. The remaining sections were enough to slow the fall a bit, so it didn't nosedive and that saved the avionics.
This has gotta be the most over produced vdieo on the whole of youtube - nice rocket, but why all the crazy computer game graphics and 'warning impact iminent stuff', I spent six minuets watching 30 seconds of interesting content, and waiting whilst 5.30 of mission impossible style typing letters wasted my life away.
Nice rocket, but can you do a short sharp and to the point video as well as the computer game one next time please? Thanks.
hey guys nice work on the x-12 hey do u guys planing to make an even better rocket the curent record is still from 2007 i hope u will my ftc rocket cant match it !
Thanks for the comments! If it's no trouble could you give a time index to the text you can't read in the video? We will be able to avoid text you can't read from now on.
Thanks! We have a lot more video to edit but it is time consuming and we're launching a lot because it is summer. We'll be finishing the next video soon however!

erikw789 Good rockets!

Some of the energy is lost through the spinning. It could be because of the flimsy pole or the design of the fins.

Good observations! This past year we've addressed those issues and were able to improve on this rocket.
