  • How long did it take you two to learn japanese?

  • do you guys happen to know what the meaning of the hand gesture " |m|o " is? its like the "devil horns" but the index and pinky fingers are straight up and the thumb is drawn in over the ring and middle. its generally seen in manga when a character is scared or startled.. i think that has something to do with it but im not a hundered percent on it.. thank you! doumo arigatou gozimashita!

  • Yeah cool DownTown clips :D

  • The gesture for money is almost like American Sign Language for asshole.

  • I love the downtown clips, sugoi ne :)

  • Ahhhh!!! So that explains why girls in anime gets so jealous when they see another girl with the main character. Thanks alot for clearing that up brothers!

  • you guys are just awsommee ^^ i want to know more about japan , hope someday to go there *_* arigatou gozaimasu ^^

  • Just a question but Have both of you ever stayed at Tatami Guesthouse?

  • ...That explains why whenever Japanese students come here, they ask if I'm going out with my guy friend... xDD

  • if you press 5 over and over it sounds creepy O_______O

  • lol....

  • is kevin japanese or korean becuz he look like korean to me

  • A person you hate? = middle finger raised

  • This is a fun way for me to remember Japan. Thanks!

  • I'm just curious. Why all asian guys in USA are named Kevin?

Maybe Saint Kevin or something in ancient middle-east was asian?

  • @NippleOfNippon idk i know a lot of of vietnamese kevins

  • Hey guys, how much does it cost to go to a concert in Japan. Maybe Koda Kumi at a dome tour ?

  • LMAO that machine slapped the shit out of that guy!

  • 1st clip is also from Silent Library right? XD

    And Hard Gay -3

    Poor Endo xD

  • I think there are also Batsu X (which is similar to iranai and yada/dame=I don't want/like it) and Maru O which is (OK!)

  • Okane ga nai... ;w;

  • @hatsudai69 , I think that refers to F*** O**

  • that last clip was from silent library!!

  • how about the thump between your middle and index finger...^_-?

  • Hehe, if you do the pinky sign over here in Belgium, you're actually asking your bartender for a beer. Small difference :p

  • Isn't the thumb between the index and middle finger the same as the middle finger in the states?

  • @EToastE Haha, in Poland it means "you'll have nothing", "go and f*** yourself", so yeah, it's like the middle finger, though I don't know how it works in Japan ^^ And btw. is this really so weird to have guys as friends?? My best friend is a guy and I'm often feeling better in boys company xP

  • I've heard this one is mainly used by students in regards to a teacher who is either in a bad mood, or is just generally very stern: using the index fingers of each hand to make devil horns atop the head. :)

  • I don't know if anyone has mentioned it before but if you use your index fingure and draw astright line on your cheek (meaning its a scar) it means YAKUZA or so no suji no mono (A person from that area/section/category)

  • Yea. Someone mentioned the crossed forearms.

The same type of gesture is crossed fingers.

I've seen those two used more frequently than ANY other ones you listed.

  • If you beckon someone with your index finger here, it means come here. But in Japan its like saying FU???...

  • 1:40 is that gaki?

  • interesting. ^_^

  • THIS GOOK IS SUCH A TOOL

  • @GOOKBUSTERS why are you so hateful, why must you be racist. Your name is disturbing, you are an embarassment to humans.

  • what is the meaning when they hold up often close to their face both hands to make a peace sign type gesture, or is just that a peace sign?

  • @SathingtonWilaby I believe they generally mean it more as "victory" and they have a tendency to use it when they feel they've succeeded at something, even if it's just minor and silly.

  • I'm trying to learn Japanese. But it is so much harder then I thought it would be. I was talking to this guy and he learned I was studying japanese so he asked me a question in japanese. It took me five min to stutter Wakarimasen. :(

  • Boyfriend? = thumbs up

    Girlfriend? = pinky finger

    GayFriend? = Telephone hand sign

  • @qimha loooooollooool i ddnt get this till they show the sign thing for boy nd girl frieend. hahaha pretty clevaa. XDD

  • was that beer Red Horse?!

  • so if everyone know's thees gestures, why not just say them instead of the secrecy? lol.

  • Nose goes! xD And who doesn't like Hard Gay?

  • Comment removed

  • love the video got me laughing at the gestures

  • Aaaaah, I dunno if anyone has said this yet... But I learned one where, it looks like you're picking up an invisible box in front of you and setting it aside. I was taught it meant, like... "Moving on," or "placing that aside"?

  • Hey, I was just watching The Ringu and noticed at the beginning, the little boy at Tomoko's funeral looks at her picture and presses his index finger into his forehead. Do you guys happen to know what that means?

Btw, I love the videos, thanks so much!

  • HARD GAYYYY <3 XD

  • wow i've been on youtube for hours searching for some good videos on these types of things....i plan on going to japan soon could you guys please please please cover how to bow properly???? if you could it'd be really helpful to include the different types of bowwing and when and why to use them...your videos are great by the way

  • I have a question, sometimes when I see Japanese people stating how old they are, the put their hand on their other hand while they say their age. Does everyone do this? What are all of them??

  • You know, it's weird, because I don't speak Japanese or anything, but I find that you can really learn a lot just be reading manga/watching anime. I actually knew a lot of these things just from all the anime/manga that I watch/read.

  • Gah! I hate that girlfriend/boyfriend one! Because everytime I walk around with my Dad they think he's my husband. And I'm just like... Noooooo~! いいえ、おとさんです! and then it gets a little awkward and we all laugh.

God, I wish I knew more Japanese! I live in Japan but I know soooo little.

もう! 日本語 を はなせる ように なりたい~。

    日本語わかりません~。 ;_;

Hey, any tips on making friends with the locals? xD

  • @StinkyCheese101 Japanzone(dot)com has local people in japan or italki(dot)com

Japanesepod101(dot)come really helps me with my japanese

  • No female friends! D: But I love hanging out with women, they're a lot of fun! ^_^

  • Thanks, NiDeCo!

  • interesting stuff guys. im off to watch all your other videos now.

  • LOL Thanks, it's a great vid!!!

I never thought about kusai-kusai but I DO it as "no thanks / I'm good" :)

    Hara itai... laughing too much.

  • Japanese hand gestures are very interesting!! Hard Gay FTW

    ~Nyappy Ringo

  • Crossed forearms in front of your chest means forbidden, wrong or negative in general.

  • @edmorgan3000 Also called 'batsu', right ;)

  • how rude is the one where you pull one eyelid down and stick out ur tongue. ya i know, not really a hand gesture. i see it animes and wonder if people actually do use that

  • @beyb7

You're talking about "Akkan-beh~", right? I think it's only between little kids.

If my friend (adult) does it to me, it's a real WTF. Could be rude, but it's more...weird and I don't want to deal with this weirdo...

  • Is the hand gesture for gay considered derogatory?
