    I'm on day four of a ? day water fast. I'm at least a 100 lbs overweight so I expect I'll be able to go for awhile.

  • Did you ever go into starvation mode? if so how long did it take for you to get out of it??

  • the swelling in your fingers is most likely arthiritis, it could be that because of the extra amount of salt has irritated your body and has caused immflamation, but you'd have to ask a doctor about that to be sure. if it does cause i to be worse then i'd stop fasting if i was you

I've read that it takes 90 days for the body to use it's stored up energy before turning to the more "dangerous" stuff... short fasts are easy and safe and long fast should be done under supervision.

  • im fasting right now, im on my 6th day teck wise but in truth only 4 days water and 2 days just juice in the morning. dono if i have to add another 2 days to it or not (i hope not.) but i will be ending it in 4 days. so yea i might try the 40 day fast or the 20, but! idono since i love my food and i been having bad cravings and i am still hungry from day one. so i dono. but anyway i hope ur mother is doing better now tho.

  • Michel thanks for posting your fasting experience here. Fasting is a regular part of my life as well.

    I aways break my fast with lowfat yogart and raw oats mixed together. I've found this works best for me. Juice is too much of a fast suger rush for me.

    With fasting it is really important not to be bloody minded about reaching a certain goal, even though you may still have this in mind. It is really important to remain open to finishing when it is time to finish, which could actually be at any time.

    The first time I fasted was for 30 days, water only, and have done numerous others periodically ranging from 2 days to 15 days and agree with you that the actual fast is one thing, how to finish it is a whole different thing.

  • that is harsh but some would say so, but then again he did not reccommend it, he did allude to it being positive for the colon and overall physical body but never said do it or anything of that nature...it is very beneficial for research to see someone do it

  • Where in all his videos does he mention he did this to fit into smaller clothing or call this a diet for the purpose of weight loss? Just because you have the ethnocentric attitude about it, doesn't mean it was not beneficial for others. Both experts and doctors debate about cleanses and both scientific research support or are against it, so there is no right or wrong about cleanses, douchebag. Don't misunderstand cleanses from anorexia, child.

  • Hi there, has anyone experienced their throat swelling up? Yesterday, Day 7, I was trying to "hork" up some mucus (sorry for the image) and all of a sudden the back of my throat really hurt, and 24 hours later it still hurts. Am I not drinking enough water, or did I actually damage it?

  • I believe Raw Honey is a great way to end a fast because of the healing properties it has, not to mention the energy it gives.. and I have done this.. Never break a fast with meat.. only raw food water and honey.. :)

Having fasted rather regularly, including 40+ days, I sometimes think of fasts as a successfully and often easily piloted jet that you, gulp, must land safely.I requires a plan and an application of the newly acquired self-discipline. That said, I usually drink fresh juice while continuing with water, eventually adding raw produce and later returning to my full diet. However, and this is key I think, improving your diet helps make the fast a launch to healthier living...

  • Another comment i wanted to make, from my own experiences, is that you could expect to burn about .4-.6 pounds of stored body fat per day (+ any extra from moderate or light-modrt. exercise. Much of the weight lost is water and will return. A fasting body eliminates sodium and the sodium was causing normal levels of water (and sometimes above normal levels) to be retained. A return to eating will mean a return of sodium, which in turn means a return of water retention, normal and otherwise.

  • 21 days is really great, congratulations! And obviously you emerged from it feeling great and looking "not at all sickly". Breaking fast protocol: For every 4 days of water, 1 day of juice, for every 4 days of water +juice, 1 day of fruits and vegetables, mostly raw. Then eating. Another tip, when u took the several swigs of oj, i cringed a little bit :p. After 21 long days of water only, i would probably take a tablespoon, wait 5 minutes and then take 2 more. Great Great job though!

  • The thing is.Fasting will make your body metabolisn shut down and go in starvation mode.When you start eating again you will gain fat realy quick because your body will be in starvation mode.Plus it's can cause lot of dmg to your brain and other part.Really bad idea.

  • Fasting is not a bad idea. It is primarily done for religious purposes. and him breaking his fast by drinking juice is smart because it keeps the body from going into ketosis.(starvation mode is not a proper medical term)

  • Wow Manga, you managed to really pack a lot of misinformation into just a few brief sentences. Congratulations on that! Fasting does not bring you into starvation mode. Rather within 2-3 days your body transitions into "ketosis" which means your body has shifted into burning fat as it's predominant fuel source. Actual starvation would only occur in the absense of stored body fat and for most, this would be many days. In the meantime, the body is fueling itself happily with it's own fat.

    Tomorrow I'm starting my 2 week preparation for a 40 day juice fast. I did a 25 day fast a year ago and actually really "enjoyed" it. Wasn't as good as a cup of pudding, but it was definitely an experience (a good one).

  • i give you respect on healing your body and enlightenment! I have done many 3 day fasts. I go with just water, nothing at all.

  • I actually started today on a 20 day waterfast, except I allow myself black coffee, green tea, sugarfree kool-aid, and 25 cal hot chocolate. thanks for your vids, they are very inspiring, just the fact that you could stick to something difficult like this, altho you stoped after 21 days, that is very good, smart. oh I was wondering, does anyone know if drinking and of these beverages like coffee and diet hotchocolate, will be bad for the cleansing process?

  • Sorry to say but kool-aid and coffee should not be supplemented to a fast. I would say at the most the tea. Sugar-free substances are not any better than refined white sugar (worse by some opinions actually). Most diet products are artificially created and processed; the body has major problems processing them.

  • You know, my religion gives me the solution because it is a way of life. We don't consume alchol, we are not allowed to over eat, and we fast a month but we break it at dawn..and we are encouraged to fast twice a day. If you follow that, you'll never feel depressed or get over weight..it is a whole way of how to live your life

  • Not so kirk, but a very good question and you don't sound like an idiot at all. Our bodies can survive for 40 days or longer on water alone, assuming we have enough stored body fat to burn as fuel.

  • I commend you on your effort. Water fasting is usually the most difficult fast because you're only consuming water, nothing else, no raw food, tea, juices.

    I'm currently doing a 30-day water fast. I'm on Day 10 right now.

    I've searched online and found conflicting answers. How do I break my fast? What should I eat? Today when I went for my physical, the nurse told me to start with proteins such as beans and lean meats, but I've read somewhere online that you should start with juicy fruits.

  • Wow...I'm surprised that the nurse would tell you to break it with beans and meats!! Ugghh! That sounds TERRIBLE for the digestive system!!! I would ease into a day of fresh juices, then maybe a day or two of blended smoothies...and then into fresh/raw fruits and veggies of the softer kind and working your way back to normal solids.

  • I agree with you wholeheartedly ashley. I have read in multiple sites that for every 4 days of water fasting one should ease towards eating with a day of fresh juices... (ie: 20 days of water, 5 days of juice). Then for every 4 days of water and juice, a day of fruits and vegetables only, predominently raw (ie: 25 days of water and juice, 6.25 days of only fruits and vegetables)... Then ease into the other building foods, being ever aware of the importance to eat in moderation.

  • be a raw vegan number one, then you have a better idea how to break your fast...i witnessed 10girls break a 21dayfast on watermelons for 2days..worked amazing11!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • You are great! I am on my 15th day and have similar experiences. Sleepless night and tiredness suring the day are the worst. On

    some days there I feel noxeus and have brain fog on others I want to run a marathon.

    I am going for 21 days which at this point seems quite easy. The weight loss is incredible, I lost already 19 pounds.

    I can't weight, like you to take that first

    sip of orange juice and later taste raw fruits & veggies. We really learn to appreciate real food and eat slowly.

  • I've only just found your waterfasting videos and watched them all and I must say thank you. I've been fasting now for 11 days and only drinking water. I decided early on not to tell my friends and peers of my decision for fear they would dissuade me so I had no support during this from friends. Watching your videos for the past few days really helped me and I feel inspired now to at least make it to day 21 now, so thank you. And I know I'm a bit late, but I hope your mother is well. :)

  • wow this is totally not good for u your body ends up consuming its self for food hence the no muscle mass your body needs nutrients to live and perform at its peak level and also you will probably gain all the wait back (because your body hordes the food because it does not now that food is available it thinks there is a famine) if u do a cleanse the best is mineral cleanse cause u get all the stuff your body needs

  • Water fasting is very powerful, it's best to read atleast 3 to 4 books, before embarking on your journey.

    Salt water flushes DONOT go with water fasting, it's a part of Master Cleanse protocol.

  • Fasting Can Save Your Life by Herbert Shelton is the best book on water fasting. It explains how to break the fast.

    I gave the book to a friend and she gave it to someone else and so on, have to get another one, but what I remember is.. first day eat quarter of an orange, chew very slowly, every 3-4 hours. He also said to stop eating after 6 pm or sunset.

  • Second day you can divide orange in 3 parts. I think you get the clue, start very slowly for a few days.. after 3rd or 4th days, you can add a bowl of soup, cooked or raw, your choice.

I've been hearing alot of people against it and alot of the information about fasting I've ran into isn't true and alot of people are misinformed... Someone told me that I was going to die lol maybe if I was on a dry fast for an extened period of time but Im on a water fast and my body has stored fat to last me for along time.
