  • same story...only a 86 porsche 944 turbo i bought back when i was a private in the army.....now im a sgt going to school to become a LT...but same story

  • hay buddy, First off all thanks for this video. I own a 05 Saab 95t. When i first bought this car i was kind of confident and kind of confuse because this kind of cars are really expensive and i hear a lots of gud bad rumors abt this car. Any way i put more than 3000 miles, i never had any trouble and it still goes smooth. I found some videos in you tube about saab cars that runs more than 1 million miles and still running. so i hope you still have a gud car it still running rit.

  • So why does it have Connecticut plates on it if you were from Vermont?

  • I am not from Vermont - the Saab was purchased in Shaftsbury, Vermont but registered in Connecticut.

  • So, you never do any maintenance and complain that the car is "falling apart"? Sense. That makes none.

  • @AeroGuy07 - Hey nit wit...no where in this video is there any complaining...more like amazement and disbelief that the Saab keeps going in light of the fact that nothing is done it. Do us all a favor and get back in bland, GM era watered down excuse for a Saab and don't quit your day job to become a video critic on YouTube!!

  • @marczoom OK

  • The reverse fix is just a bandage. The reverse idler gear teeth are normally broken by the time it gets like this, so it's best to just get a replacement transmission from the boneyard, and buy one of the steel rear covers to stiffen up the gearbox for longer life the second time around.

  • the clicking might be a sort of relay or something

  • How to fix your reverse.Take the side cover off the transmission on the passengers side. There is a little lever that actuates the reverse slider gear. This lever has a

bolt hole that gets elongated.Call Eriksson industries at 1-800-388-4418 and

get the modified lever(actually do this step first)If you haven't totally destroyed your reverse gear this fix works.About a 1 hour job.

  • Please tell me you still own this... :)

  • One you reach your goal, you should fix this thing up and and give it the respect it deserves. It could be one of the reasons you succeed in life. Long live SAAB! lol nice vid.

  • classic SAAB 900s are amazing!! Nice video.

  • "Fast food is my way of life". Oh god, what a suprise

  • Cheap publicity stunt mate! Saabs are pure European quality...Mind you all cars do need servicing every now and then..wink wink

  • They are built like concrete bunkers-- better than Mercedes

  • Your standards are crap, I have a 1988 16V 900i Saab and its never let me down and good luck with your dream.

  • It's not the car's fault, man!

  • comfy seats !

  • what can i say that hasnt been said? saabs are awesome cars that may out live you, anyway good luck dude

  • 1. the dash board is cracked becouse the plastic used was made for a sweedish climet.

    2. you probibly have an automatic and they dont last as long as manuals.

    3. its had a rough life, my 900 EMS has done 256,000 miles and still running fine with origanal MANUAL gearbox. the only things that whent wrong on me are the power steering, the clutch, and radio antena not going up and down. still saabs are fantastic and i will keep my 900 for as long as i can.

  • Them saab/scania's go on forever! They are solid and reliable! Love them! :-)

  • gota love saab

  • Niiice vid, good luck in the future

  • It's almost a year since you posted this video, so I'm sure you got all kinds of tips and insightful comments. I happen to know exactly what's going on inside your gearbox when it pops out of reverse. I also know the fix. You still drive that car? Still live in LA? Who does your mechanic work?

  • CONNECTICUT RULES- GOOD LUCK BUD!

  • I own a Saab 9-5 and, I'm sorry to say, the transmission is the weakest part of a Saab and has always been. The high torque of the turbo engines doesn't make things better...

  • That's all thats happened? My Saab 900T is an '89 and in the past 6 months.. its been in the shop about eight times, maybe less, I wasn't counting. I still love the damn thing, but for the most of this year I haven't HAD it. Good vid though.

  • Love your SAAB vid! Mine is Blk '86 900T w/ 190k. Body's solid, Engine's wicked, paint shines wet black, heads still turn! Headliner is kept up by headpins..ha! Other than that, my baby's a definite player! (Only roll it out occasionally now, my RRover's more practical, but Saab's are fun, reason why I've kept mine for so long)! Long life to yours!

  • that poor C900, what a shame he treats it like crap. At least its good to him. Sounds like its got a cracked exhaust manifold there buddy ;)

  • I just picked up a 93 900S with 112k for $1000. It was ssupposed be for my wife, but I think i'll be driving it more often than not. Also had a 95 900SE Turbo, which was a great car, but no where near as nice as the Classic C900's which ceased production in 93, and 98 in Cabriolet form. Great video.

  • That silver box in the footwell is the Bosch LH-Jetronic computer. It handles fuel injection. Ignition and Turbo functions (which SAAB calls APC) are handled by another computer located in the engine bay.

  • I have a 2001 Saab 9-5 with 165k miles and it still has reverse...

  • I did also have the car as you have. But i never had problems with the Saab. Only the New 900 1994 was the worst Saab i ever had. You can ask me more if you wonder something. I work at Saab.

  • Hello. I had the same problem with the reverse on my old Saab 900 1994. I needed to chenge the whole transmission. In sweden you can buy cheaper at the car wrecking yard.

  • Hey my dad used to have that car... I think, it was a pretty long time ago, he didn't bother to keep it around until it stopped going in reverse

  • you need to take better care of your car

  • once a Saab, always a Saab....that`s how you can describe a Saab owner, so watch out you may get stuck with that "thing" for a while

  • great vid, great performance, great sob story, uhm I mean Saab story.

  • Thank you Sergie...from your mouth to Saab's ears!

  • this is a special car indeed - my 96 VW Passat LX6

stopped going in reverse --- eventually I got the gearbox adjusted. but the first time it happened it

was on a small hill & had to wait until the car

    in front moved!

  • Don't you americans Have What us people in the uk call MOT? Don't you have to test it every year 4 roadworthy-ness???? Jesus......My Car failed on a broken tail light bulb!

  • We have nothing like MOT. Most states here have their local DMV branches which handle registration renewals by mail. Just send in the renewal fee and your set. You do have to watch out for the police though. They can write these "fix-it" tickets that would definitely put my Saab into retirement!

  • i do but test are fairly hard to fail i passed with a broken windsheid once

  • "saab should consider giving this guy a new car"

I definately second that. Could be a great promo. :)

  • Cars like that are a danger to other drivers. I once drove behind a Saab 900 on the freeway and its tailpipe fell off. Luckily, I had room to swerve. That's my Saab story.

  • If you understood the gist of the video, you would notice that the car is more a cosmetic nusiance than a road hazard. The overall cosmetic condition of the car does not effect it's road-worthiness. Granted, not having reverse and a couple of interior oil leaks does present problems for me, but never has it jeapordized another motorist. Agreed, people who drive around cars with loose tailpipes are a threat to other drivers, especially at highway speeds on freeways.

  • A car that dilapidated often has deeper hazards than meet the eye. You're just fortunate a worst-case scenario hasn't hit yet.

  • Thanks for your concern Steve, but unless you are a Saab mechanic, your opinion is completely unfounded. Pure speculation. This car is road tested by the leading Saab master tech in LA. Aside from the obvious cosmetic issues and of course my lack of reverse, he is truly amazed by the overall mechanical and operational condition of the car. My so called "fortune" is based on expert advice, experience and years of driving a truly exceptional car.

  • This may be true of your car, but show me another one on the road of that make and vintage and I'll just as soon keep a respectful distance.

  • Saabs are their own worst enemies -- you can neglect them and they keep on going...Testament to the make, for sure, but time you gave it some much needed TLC.

After 160k miles, you really don't have much to moan about it.

Must have been a long time since you opened the hood, the lever to open it is in the left hand passenger footwell, on a right hand drive anyway.

Re. the reverse gear, I'm pretty sure the problem is the ignition lock mechanism or its relay. This isn't a biggie to fix.

  • Thanks for your reply. You are absolutely right. I have nothing to moan about when it comes to my Saab, which is why I am not moaning, just giving a humorous, praise-worthy tour of the car and it's quirks. As for reverse, the gear is gone. Totally. That is why the car buckles and disengages when I try to back up...I wish it was only the ignition lock or some relay. I'll be dropping $1500 for that job someday, so for now, I push backwards! Anyway, thanks for watching.

  • I agree with tootietp he had the whole voice thing going goodwork mate, just got to bribe the makers of some movie hehe

  • Hey,

Don't drive around with only 3 cylinders Cheers Sweden :)

  • a fresh, new, look at advertising - very appealing.

saab should consider giving this guy a new car.
