It was just to drum up some publicity for the new DVD and that he had a film in the Toronto International Film Festival in 2003, where this was screened before release.

I guess everyone has their own opinion as I prefer Aliens over Alien. But I like Alien3, but Resscurecton just pees me off (at points) however I like AVP and AVP - Requiem (I gather you hate them)
But something that doesn't make sense: In all the Alien movies, we never see the young aliens (like they just burst out of someone's chest, eat. Yet the next time we see them, they are probably 50 times as large and heavy. If they don't eat in the mean time, how the hell do they increase their biomass and grow?
What makes this movie scary is it isn't far from reality. We see insects in nature that have the same behaviors and biology as the "Alien". Maybe on some other planet evolution has created scorpions the size of lions, the universe scares me.
Thing is, if you look at the universe from a Biblical perspective then you know that God created man as the only truly intelligent species. You'll also know that evolution has not created intelligent life on any planet, and never will. Suddenly, boom -- the universe isn't so scary anymore and all that's left of E.T. is some chicken wire and play-doh =p

I am 62 years old and I was looking at shows in the news paper, this movie showed an egg and got my curiosity in 1979. Went to see it with no idea what it was going to be about. I guess I was about 30 years old. When that creepy creature came out off that pod and went in that guys helmet, I shit and found myself springing about 4 feet high out of my seat, along with the whole audience, with guys and gals screaming. I'v never seen a movie any scarier in me life.
I am 44 and just too young to have seen this movie in its first run. But I remember the effect it had on my brother and his friends, who all snuck in - at age 16 - to see Alien. People's minds were blown. Like, they cried, screamed, and even puked and pissed themselves in the theatres. @MrZagy20 I agree, I think the talent behind physical costumes is lost now you just have actors looking into a blue screen. The engagement is lost when an actor has nothing to physically see our touch

the original 1979 movie trailer was a teaser which showed only the egg shell slowly opening as the letters of the title of the movie appeared slowly. then the catch phrase "In space no one can hear you scream" It was fantastic marketing for the time and probably brought in thousands of viewers to the theaters to check this classic SCI-Fi film out
The best Alien Movie by far was "Aliens" (No2) in the franchise, directed by Cameron; there was best plot, script, was well directed, a progressive and structural unfolding/play of the movie along with the marines action all the way...simply kept us in our seats! "Alien" (No1) was good enough as a first movie of the sequel, (No3) was a wild parachutist scenario-acceptable in its own theme, and Resurrection (No4) somewhere created mixed feelings....

It had the best acting and script writing and was just perfect in terms of the way tension built up as the plot continued and the situation became more desperate. Aliens was good but isn't even in the same league as the original.
Guys 'Promethius' is the new Alien film, it's due to come out June 2012. It was originally supposed to be the second of the franchise. It's got a completely different storyline and new characters, no Ripley or anyone like that.

My favorite and most loved movie series. Alien still holds up to so much of today's horror movies. The quality, and level of horror is just perfect. It retains that mystery that so many other films lack today. The simplicity to the film and the way the horror and tension builds up is so clear and concise. No wonder its praised. If your a horror fan you have to love this movie. If you don't...ummmm seriously whats wrong with you???

@racefan32 The original films length was just over 3 hours as I recall, what they really ended up cutting with regards to the carnage wasn't any particular scenes, it was mostly just trimming down certain shots. The chest burster sequence in particular had a number of secondary angles and longer takes on the burster itself that were discarded during editing. Which was always the intention, simply for length.

Alien 1979 film is timeless.... even till today the alien looks fierce and a bone chilling thriller. Love all the other parts... Good actors and direction... The effects for 1979 is pretty good. Best ALIEN film.

Me too. But you have to imagine watching that movie in the cinemas when it came out in 1979. Movies always have a different effect when you watch them in a cinema instead on TV. Bigger Screen, mostly better sound and lights are off = a movie like Alien is a bit more scary than on TV. Another example is Signs when i watched it with my friends in cinema there was one scene where i cringed. But if i would have watched it first on TV I´m sure the same scene wouldn´t have scared me.
i have to say that in movies like this one only the first movie that comes out is ery exciting and original and scary all the other parts are just effects with no actuall feeling!! sequels tend to disaster for me because they never leave up to the first movie made!~!

I thought the atmosphere and everything was great and to say it was back from 79 - It's still a scary looking creature (nothing is better then the Xenomorphs and they have stood the test of time. Most stuff back from 79 looks shit. The whole film was great how Ash was there to protect the Alien. Without Alien you wouldn't AVP the movie & games. Oviously Alien is much better, but I prefer lots of action like the sequel. Aliens.

My favorite and most loved movie series. Alien still holds up to so much of today's horror movies. The quality, and level of horror is just perfect. It retains that mystery that so many other films lack today. The simplicity to the film and the way the horror and tension builds up is so clear and concise. No wonder its praised. If your a horror fan you have to love this movie. If you don't...ummmm seriously whats wrong with you???

@racefan32 The original films length was just over 3 hours as I recall, what they really ended up cutting with regards to the carnage wasn't any particular scenes, it was mostly just trimming down certain shots. The chest burster sequence in particular had a number of secondary angles and longer takes on the burster itself that were discarded during editing. Which was always the intention, simply for length.

The Thing - Will only die if it is nuked by predators fast.
Predators - If they are not already quickly destroyed by body snatchers or The Thing, will likely die to the Blob unless they have a ship with them.

Alien 1979 film is timeless.... even till today the alien looks fierce and a bone chilling thriller. Love all the other parts... Good actors and direction... The effects for 1979 is pretty good. Best ALIEN film.

Me too. But you have to imagine watching that movie in the cinemas when it came out in 1979. Movies always have a different effect when you watch them in a cinema instead on TV. Bigger Screen, mostly better sound and lights are off = a movie like Alien is a bit more scary than on TV. Another example is Signs when i watched it with my friends in cinema there was one scene where i cringed. But if i would have watched it first on TV I´m sure the same scene wouldn´t have scared me.

i have to say that in movies like this one only the first movie that comes out is ery exciting and original and scary all the other parts are just effects with no actuall feeling!! sequels tend to disaster for me because they never leave up to the first movie made!~!

I thought the atmosphere and everything was great and to say it was back from 79 - It's still a scary looking creature (nothing is better then the Xenomorphs and they have stood the test of time. Most stuff back from 79 looks shit. The whole film was great how Ash was there to protect the Alien. Without Alien you wouldn't AVP the movie & games. Oviously Alien is much better, but I prefer lots of action like the sequel. Aliens.
