I'm sure someone has mentioned this before, but just a suggestion, add an update showing Dale Jarrett's wreck from 2003 or 2004 (can't remember which year), where he had crashed and was almost hit by other cars racing back to the caution flag. Led to NASCAR freezing the field instantly once a Yellow came out instead of racing back to the stripe.
@G4RAWZONE good call, i remember watching that race, he was just sitting in the middle of the track with cars racing back to the line at full speed, i thought someone was going to hit him. it was after that they started freezing the field, much safer now.
While I agree that these horrible disasters did shape nascar's modern safety regulation it is still over a dosen automobile's pumped with flammables mixed with burning rubber and even more friction , you could say its a passport to the afterlife
@2ndCrysis Counter-argument : I will feel safer on a nascar track, on a sunday, than on the road with the new Nissan Leaf. It's not that the Leaf is unsafe, but compare to a nascar... Plus people go in all direction so an head-on collision is possible is on the road, and the medical is not that quick on the public road...
@therrydicule Good point , but on the public roads there are speed limits that we (most of us) follow the speeds here reach up to 220 mph which play not small part during a good skull fracture, given that you wont have drunk drivers embarrass themselves on a televised sport that half the world watches but knowledge of the racing legends who were masters of the wheel who lost their lives plus the sheer numbers watching make for a real tense and jittery driver .
Well narrated and informative......sort of a calming voice as well....LOL
Seriously though, lots of that footage I have seen first hand or on TV. Glad to see the safety improvements for the drivers....however I still miss the NASCAR racing of the 80`s and early 90`s....in the draft someone could still "pull out and pass" not like today where either the entire field runs "nose to tail" or like 2011 Daytona where it is like a car towing another one...
This was a great video and very informative to newer fans. If you ever do a remake the one thing you should add was Dale Jarrett's crash at New Hampshire in 2003 which led to NASCAR freezing the field and not letting them race back to the line.
@phur3i0n I apologize if you are a child and dont know how to spell yet, but if you are an adult I am sticking to my story. plus your list made no sense.
@MrMegamater just quit trolling, fucking tired of seeing shit like this, just shut the fuck up watch the video decide if you like it or not and click like or dislike and the only time you can use the comments on an topic your not familiar with is to give feedback to the uploader
well the wing was the issue in till latter date they ended up fixing it so they cahnged the diemanics of the angle of the wing and add the extra slide on the back window . :) but it was a good vidow :)
well the CoT isnt the safest cuz well it got changed again the rear wing is gone. when the car got turned around at speed it would catch enough to flip the car before the drag flaps could save it.
Dig the vid but good God does anyone ever need to hear that awful redneck anthem Freebird ever again?? Rumour has it Osama Bin Ladin was so sick of that song in his cave that he moved to Pakistan to get away from it. Every jacked-up Camaro in every trailer park in the US has it's 8-track stuck on that track.
I liked nascar as a kid because.....kids like racecars. I was 11 when I watched my first race, which happened to be the first race of the year in 2001....
your still missing the use of the 5 or 6 point safty harness and the full canment seat that is also mandory in nascar and many other forms of racing but good video!
Awesome video I remember watching Nascar when it first was televised in 1978 I saw that very first race I told all my buddies "Ya gotta watch this " Whats so great about cars going around in a circle they said . Today they all watch they all sport the gear . I stopped really watching it after "Ironheart which, by the way", was his first nick name before "The Intimidator" passed away
Too bad my daily driver is like every other daily driver... just another a death box on wheels. Just imagine if all that safety stuff that's used in NASCAR was in our common everyday cars... We'd have a shit load less automotive related fatalities, no doubt. But alas, the expense prohibits it. Such is life... money is still more important than human life. God, I hate how stupid our species can be. Great video by the way. Interesting, entertaining, and informative! You don't see that everyday.
I dont get why people complain about how NASCAR officials have made the races so that it doesn't follow the saying, "Have at it boys." Like who the fuck cares, i'd rather know all the drivers will be alive than thinking wat happens if theres a crash and someone gets badly injured. Look at what kyle busch did to hornaday at texas. Look at johnsons crash at CHarlotte. IF they never moved away from that saying then both those drivers would have severe injuries, plus many more.
I'm an huge F1 fan and I'm so ashamed to see all these hater comments from other f1 fans... I never really cared about Nascar but that's not a reason to hate it. Good vid, I enjoyed it.
@kingmatt334 Not really that because the cars are build up the way that when it flips drivers head won't hit the ground. But of course if some parts of other cars hit you in the head then you're fucked up. But in Nascar your driving an oval without any run off areas with stock cars on over 200km/h speeds side by side with the others. If you crash, your car will shatter in pieces. But anyways, both sports have their own dangers.
@wtfpenguinwtf Yea but over the years Nascar has highly improved the drivers safety. I dont believe F1 has done much and i won believe it until they put something on to protect the head of the driver
great video, but i think it should be noted that in the case of rusty wallaces 2 flips in 1993, the one at daytona was not caused by the air, it simply dug in because of the abrupt turn to the right and rolled over.
@nigeleckzdee if its such a shit sport lets see you have the balls to drive a car entering turns at over 180 mph and inches away from other drivers for 3 hours or more and see if you still think its a shit sport.....you dumbass know what your talking about before you talk shit on something
@nigeleckzdee In F1 drivers have a vast amount of tech at their fingertips, the cars do most of the driving not the driver, in NASCAR the driver controls the car, and not everyone who is a fan of nascar is a redneck, that just shows how little your imagination is
MY DAD WON US NASCAR JACKETS FOR ME AND HIM FROM ww w.freetowin .info (remove space) and OMG I love it ^^ Nascar babe all the way!!!, CHECK OUT THE WEBSITE, they are also giving away MACBOOKS, Giftcards, IPADS and other giveaways !!!!

Minor nitpick: The crash that bought the window net was the road race death at Riverside raceway of Joe Weatherly in 1964. Joe did not have a window net when his brakes failed & was partially ejected out the side window. He Also had no Shoulder belts. It was made mandatory in 1971.
Wow, Amazing! Can't believe all of this stuff... Most of this stuff is before i was born and before I got into it. RIP for all the ones that got killed in these accidents <3 Gone but never forgotten
great video, but just one thing - the first rust wallace crash you show at daytona would not have been prevented by roof flaps. he flipped because he was hit hard in the side. it wasn't a blowover like at talladega. you could have explained how the roof flaps work as well. but this is just minor. great video, some nice old footage in there.
Why do I allways see this "cars" turning only one way? What... do the steerings don't turn the other way? Are they block or something? funny looking "cars", boring though...
I almost had a career in Nascar with the first digital telemetry systems developed in 1983,my first team affiliation was with Tim Richmond, that didn't work out so well. :(
I remember 87, its when I quit watching nascar. Speed limiters on racecars driven only on racetracks...pffft.
