  • Can it be used with a bass¿

  • I have one of these for sale... PM me if interested.

I'd like to trade if for a Maestro Fuzz Tone

  • I have a PowerWah Boost that I found for 75$ in 1997. Saw Cliff playing a big giant chrome wah and I thought, hey what the heck...Didn't think too much of it at the time. Fastforward to now and I realize this thing has been with me on every single recording session, every show since I got it. I changed the light 3 times, I've reshaped the cardboard parts inside, True bypassed it, and put a great big radio knob on the left so I can use my foot with it. It is my secret weapon and it changed me:)

  • What a great pedal! Awsome effects. I just didn't like your pants though :)

  • what is this song in this video ????????

  • i gotta get me one of these.

  • Very nice. Another cool wah/fuzz pedal was the ROLAND AD-50 DOUBLE BEAT FUZZ/WAH PEDAL or the AF Bee Gee.

  • @dec151974 The Double Beat was better; great wah, crap fuzz.

  • how mucho does it cost O.O its beautiful

  • sounds good! looks ancient

  • nice review MR. Josh Homme

  • hey man i got this pedal recently from a garage sale and the LED turns on but no sound comes out , do u know who can fix it???????? plzzz

  • cos i'm thinking of buying one of this beast but i'm not sure, i don't like the tone suck off when the wah's engaged while using the fuzz... :S

  • does that fuzz have enough lows like a fuzz face? or it's slimmer?

  • yeah..the fuzz side of it is well worth investigating..with a bit of modding eq wise..might give that a go..

  • did morley still produce a new model of wah?

  • coooool. Check out my video Whammy Jammy - whacky whammy pedal fun! :) Enjoy!

  • @jimboob400 No bother at all. :) I like talking old efx.

I think the one I had was a silver series wah/volume, it had fader pots in it instead of the light/photocell deal. Don't know the model number though.

Just a tip, If anybody out there wants to get Randy Rhoads sound, you have to get the old morley.

  • @jimboob400 I'd bought a "classic"(the new one) last year expecting the same sound as my old one, no such luck. More like a crybaby/morley hybrid to my ear.

My old one used 2 9v batts for 18v power, the new one is only 9v, the 18v version had more of a filter effect than a typical wah sound. I like my new morley though, it has a much fuller sound than my dunlop and is very low noise.

  • I'm not really diggin' the fuzz though.

  • Sounds like my old morley wah.

    I do miss it.

  • The one Cliff used! Selling it? PLS!!!!!!!!

  • Sorry man it's not for sale. G

  • @blondegraemey Where Did You Get That?

  • @GRigori0s10 I though Cliff used Morley Power wah and a Electro Harmonix Big Muff

  • theres one on ebay right now for 325

  • @creepingdeath171 right now I got 0,00 euros in my pocket

  • @GRigori0s10 lol well idk if its there anymore

  • Thanks for the demo. I was looking to see if anyone put up a demo of the rotating wah version. I've had one of those for several years, don't use it, but can't seem to part with it. Though, I probably just haven't met the right buyer. lol It does sound absolutely wicked, but not much more portable than a leslie.

  • whats with the cotton advertisement?

  • I recently acquired a Morley wah from the Compact range Model CWV (Wah Volyme). And I can’t for the life of me find any “decent” information about it (sound ok though).

Anyhow, grate video as always, one thought though:

Hypothetically wouldn’t you be able to change the Wah range if you could change the intensity of the light coming from the bulb? A brighter light making a more trebally sound?

  • Any tone suck?

  • AH! Troy sanders uses that!

  • is this an old model or is it still available? couldn´t find it at thomann?! the fuzz sound is beautiful!!

  • This is a vintage one from the 70's. G

  • must get wah!!! :O

  • So when only the fuzz is engaged on my power fuzz the pedal acts as "gate" on letting the amount of fuzz through. On the heel it's clean and the toe it's the full fuzz. Should just be volume in fuzz only mode. Any other tubers get that from theirs? Love this pedal anyway....

  • Damn ,Dude where do you come up with all these old antique mojo effects pedals ?

i haven't seen one of those morleys in years ....Killer pedal ..!

  • How do the new ones compare to the old ones?

  • 3. The transformer turned out to be a noisy intruder. I bought a wall-plug with housing and moved the transformer from the Morley to the wall-plug and added an extra little low voltage connector to the Morley.

    4. In the end I didnt't really like the boost: too much signal eating for my taste. I rewired the boost switch

such that it functions as a byepass. The other switch toggles between wah and volume.

  • 2. Mine wasn't functioning reliably, and I didn't have schematics either. (Nor can i read them well). After some hesitation i soldered out all small components (diodes, resisters, capacitors etc), carefully making notes of all component-colors and placements. Took everything to an old electronics store. These guys were very knowledgeable and helped me out finding close replacements for all parts. ($15-20). Soldered them in, and the pedal has been working ever since, sounding like this one.

  • I got mine (power wah) some 20 years ago for, say $3, a stunt sell. Slept before the shop - was the second to enter the shop - got my vintage Morley)

If I may offer some tips/ideas on repairs en mods:

    1. If you have any problems with wah sound range and/or volume(loss), first thing to check is mechanical: make sure the curtain has the right range in opening and closing in relation to the pedal movement range. (Possibly remove smudge from the light)

  • that doesnt look like something that belongs on a pedal board it looks like a peice of machineray from a shop

  • how much do those cost!??:!?!?!??!

  • man I love it that is some nasty fuzz man

  • HOw do you describe your sound with out the wah pedal being switched on? what's the nice effect there? Also, do you know what effects and sounds I'd need to get the same guitar sounds used on Rod Stewart's 1975 Atlantic Crossing album? That'd be a great help!

  • Hi, there is no effect used when the wah is in bypass. It's just my Strat into a Fender Twin. Sorry, I can't help with the Rod question. I don't know that album. G

  • hi, how much would you say this pedal costs today?

  • Hi, I have a question. My pedal works like a volume pedal when the wah is off (it does even when the fuzz is on). Does yours works the same or mine is broken? I've just bought at some auction. The seller didn't know if it's made that way or not, and I couldn't find anybody who can answer my question.Thanks.

  • Yep, mine is the same. G

  • I have this exact pedal, the only difference id my power on/off switch has been removed and hardwired....

It seems to have a little too much high end on the wah, and some volume loss... do you know how I can mod past this volume loss?

  • You shouldn't have any volume loss this this pedal. Sounds like it needs to be repaired rather than modded. G

  • @blondegraemey

I have little knowledge of these pedals, but I have very good knowledge of electronics... I can repair it myself, but maybe a little help toward the right direction wouldn't hurt. Do you have an idea of what would cause this? There really isn't much to them... Maybe it is just a resistor that has gone up in value because of age? This could be what is adding the high end as well, or at least I am assuming based on its simple schematics. Maybe you know a sit that could guide me?

  • I don't have any info on this pedal but you could try a Google search for the schematic. Also use your multimeter to check that the transistors are all receiving voltage. Does the falling curtain that covers the bulb work ok? Check all the obvious things 1st. G

  • @blondegraemey

There weren't any characters left, but I wanted to say..... Thank you for the reply, and for any help you can give me. Your channel is really just perfect for helping me pick out new (or old I guess) gear. I just picked up an 70's EH Deluxe Electric Mistress, with original wooden box and all documentation, on EBAY for $60.00 US. :)

  • R.I.P. CLIFF BURTON THE MAJOR RAGER ON THE FOUR STRING MOTHERFUCKER!

  • sounds fuckin awesome

  • where can i get one of these?

  • i bet some jimi hendrix sound good on it

  • nice shoes, i have almost the same ones

  • wats the name of the song?

  • is it true bypass?

  • @reinier1992 I dont think they had true bypass in the 70s, so I would say no.

  • it sounds shit!!!

  • wonder if hendrix would use this

  • whats the song at beggining does anyone know?

  • I have one for sale, works great, pm me if your interested

  • anyone know a place u can buy that in europe?

  • internet :P

  • @onderscheet where?

  • um you must go to google from your country and then typ morley power.. and then click on find pages from my country

  • THIS IS THE PEDAL OF CLIFF BURTON

  • jason also used cliff's same pedal Morley PWB) on the cunning stunts dvd for his solo

  • @5GPuerto5 no cliff didnt have the fuzz he just had a morley power wah he had a green sovtek big muff fuzz distortion pedal

  • @creepingdeath171

i think sovtec muffs didn't exist when Cliff was alive,

anyway he has used tel ray-morley fuzz wah(early days), power wah boost,

    and american big muff pi

  • Lol My Name Is Morley :D

  • How much?

  • why are you trying to sell this on a web site based in Aberdeen, Scotland?

  • Im not.

  • Morley Wooo!

    Cliff Burton used that pedal.

    R.I.P.

  • what guitar you playing man?

  • It's a Tokai Strat. G

  • I have this same solid wah but the different is that I have Sustain and not Fuzz.I bought it 1976 and it's still working.Even the light is original. The pedal movement is very large and the sound is much better than in this video. This is a real classic pedal like Cry Baby or Vox...

  • it's interesting how much more vocal Morley wahs sound.

  • "classic" it's classic for a reason

  • It doesnt matter if it is old but just if it works or not...

  • @homeris2 When it comes to guitars, amps, and accessories, if it was built right in the beginning older is way better.

  • Comment removed

  • im actually lookin for one myself

  • cliff wah!!!

  • Name of the song in the beginning?

  • Hey graemey, I have this pedal as well. Freakin' rocks. It seemed like your pedal did not have the volume pedal feature. Is that true? Do you know how to disengage this feature? Thanks. You are like The Pusher Man of vintage pedals. I can't get enough. Stay up!

  • I don't think it does have a vol pedal feature?? It's been like that since I got it. G

  • Okay. Thanks man.

  • @blondegraemey

My pedal does act as a volume pedal when both wah and fuzz are off.

  • i wish i could find one of these i cant ply any cliff burton songs with my crybaby

  • buy an electro harmonix big muff and ibanez weeping demon, believe me

  • yeah thats the arrangement i had untill i got me one of these beasts

  • where can i get on eof these?

  • They are long discontinued... best to try Ebay. G

  • can you tell me where you can get this pedal mate ?

  • Is thefuzz circuit before or after the wah?

  • Sounds like it's before to me. I usually prefer fuzz after the wah. G

  • Thanks gra ;), I just got a DOD FX17 wah/volume & Im using it witha boss FZ2 Hyper Fuzz on bass & guitar. Im still messing around with the signal chain but I seem to be getting a nice Cliff Burton thing going on bass with the Fuzz followed by chorus then the wah & then some delay. Do you know if this morley was used by Cliff Burton of Metallica? cheers...

  • Yes, this one was. G

  • @skylandmountain

If you have an effects loop, you are best served by putting your actual effect into it. Chorus, delay, faze, etc.... they sound better after the preamp.

  • @JermsBlues Cheers - It's hard to know sometimes

  • @JermsBlues Are you answering the question about the fuzz placement? If so I appreciate the answer any info helps but i was refering to the way the pedal is wired - is the fuzz section before or after the wah section - if I knew i could emulate it with a seperate wah & fuzz (It sounds like it's fuzzed up first then wha'd

  • @skylandmountain

The fuzz will always be after the wah, the wah will always be before everything. It is nice to mess around, but after years you realize that the wah likes to see the guitar first, then everything else comes in.

  • @JermsBlues Cool, thanks for getting back. Yeah that's the way I use mine (dod FX-17 & a boss FZ2 Hyper Fuzz. I find setting it before gives a nice effect or at least use a compressor or some overdrive before the wah to give the signal some punch that can be worked on via the wah.

  • @blondegraemey

All Wah's want the straight guitar signal, especially optical Wha's.... You always put it first, then comp....drive, dist, fuzz, etc...

  • this pedal sux. i sold mine for 40 EUR

  • thats fucking impressive, i have the tremonti wah which is good but this is more my style :P

  • i love the fuzz from this wah... does anyone have the circuit or pcb? or is similar to another fuzz?

  • look at Morley website, they 've included the schematic of their pedals.

  • are you playing any judas priest ?? because i think i hear some notes (:

  • Not intentionally! G

  • man i want that pedal

  • Wow what a pedal.

  • When you first take the back off the pedal I thought 'oh my god'. I would hate to open a pedal and see all that gubbins! I'm amazed that even 35 years ago pedals contained lightbulbs and delays contained tapes and motors.

  • nice video man, but you should make the vido of you playing guitar and usig the wah pedal, its just it gets pretty boring just watching the foot

  • *center

  • where do you get 1

  • Guitar cebter or musicians friend (online only)

  • @themanonthebass How much?

  • ..ok thanks. maybe the new dist/wah/vol is cool too? thanks bro, keep up the good work

  • thats fuckin amazing.. thanks for the video!

..please tell me they still produce them, it rocks balls

  • Morley still make pedals but not this one. there may be a modern take on the fuzz wah but it wont sound like this. G

  • Wicked sound !! ....... EXCELENT !!

  • hey cool! is that a vintage one or they still produce it?

  • does any know what the song at the start was

  • It's my old Band Candleman Summer. The track is called Brilliant. G

  • sounds amazing

  • Cliff Burton use Morley power wah Boost, Jason Newsted use Morley power wah Fuzz

  • other way round

  • ahh, my friend just bought on of these to play his bass through,

  • Cliff Burton had one too... :) - I want one too.

  • i have one too mine just wonk work for me. the light wont come on and i have a new bulb in there.

  • the fuzz sound horrible to my kind of ears

  • is this what cliff burton used .............. sorry if i seem like a dumb ass but i need a pedal like his to get the same affect at my gigs

  • I think he did use one of these. G

  • thanks

  • yes. its the exact same pedal he used

  • you won't really get the same effect since Cliff had a hidden stratocaster pick-up fitted underneath the bridge of his Rickenbacker 4001.

  • cant i easily just put on in lol

but thanks anyway i now know that i am fucked lol

  • but what does that do to the tone? was it connected to the normal switch?

  • HIs clean tone was a normal Rickenbacker tone. His solo tone began with the strat pick up.

  • cool. I wonder what ever happened to that bass. Does his family have it or was it buried with him. Jason actually has Cliff's Aria Bass (i think, he used it right when he joined the band), and he does have Cliff's wah. It's the same one.

  • His mother had it hanging in the front room of the family home, I assume it went to his sister after their mother died. Jason was only loaned the bass I believe. Cliff's Aria bass was donated for charity auction by Metallica to auctionnetwork at the end of last year and went for $11,000.

  • Cool. I didn't know it was auctioned. I wonder who or what organization owns it?

  • you've been to his parent's house?

  • ha ha no, I just read it in his bio.

  • not too sure but I believe there was a push/ pull option on one of the knobs.

  • i always wanted one of the 70s Morleys, lol at the professionals theme showing ya age there ;) (keep in mind, that comment is coming from one old git to another lol) where did you get hold of it or have you had it for ages?

  • You're right about that theme haha! I bought this one almost twenty years ago and it didn't work. I had to get it repaired. I would have paid about a fiver, I think!

  • didnt cliff use this and the big muff russian pi? or did he use the wah boost

  • he used the wah boost

  • He used the russian big muff and the PWF just like this.

  • Power Wah Boost actually. damn i want one

  • Actually I found that were both correct lol. I found that he used the PWF early on, then switched to the wah boost because he started using a second amp (a Sunn coliseum lead) as well as his mesa rig, and just switched between the two amps (probably when Metallica was making more money). His sound was so badass because he had a "post wah distortion" with the PWF and then the Sunn.

  • that doesnt have more fuzz than a big muff

  • i think he meant the sustain

  • maby i thought he ment fuzz

  • thats what i thought he meant at first. buttt..it doesn't have more fuzz than a big muff, and i'm sure this dude wouldn't make that kind of statement, being the big muff fan that he is.

the sustain is better than a big muff though, a tad bit anyway

  • The fuzz from this pedal is harsher than a Big Muff and not quite
