  • The greatest document on synthpop indeed EVER! - Even though it was fused from outside influences, it was artfully crafted so perfectly in the UK back in the day. The brits should stand proud of their heritage.

  • Where's parts 8-9 ?????

  • Amazing how much Alison Moyet looks like Gordon Brown's wife!

  • @czgibson and how she sounds like Andy Bell

  • @mtsn well, Andy sounds like Alison. :)

  • What's up with Alison's neck?

  • 24hrs a day? tell me about it!

  • Yazoo is awesome, love Goodbye Seventies!

  • @TrainmasterCurt

That is one of the most perfect songs to come out of the '80s ever. Its title says it all, doesn't it? The '70s vs the '80s - now that's the debate, hm!

  • Yazoo! Beginning at 4:50.

  • Alison Moyet has got to be among the top five female vocalists ever to come out of the UK. Vince really fell on his feet finding her.

    Looking good btw Alf!

  • best story of synthpop ever.. I grew up on modern synth pop like Iris, Devision, Mesh, Anything Box, Cause and Effect, REd Flag, etc.. But to discover(kinda) albums like Reproduction, Travelogue from Human League and will be discovering John Foxx is exciting.. I"m interested also in Throbbing Gristle and Heaven 17.

  • @mpresev

Modern Synth Pop? Don' t forget Namnambulu, Neuroticfish, Colony 5, Code 64, Endanger, Sonictune, Minerve, Frozen Plasma, Davos, Equatronic, TOY, Energize...

    legal successor!

  • @MrsAdely they are good and I have some of them.. A little bit on the EBM side though.. Actually EVILS TOY is better *wink.

  • @MrsAdely i love code 64 and more so neuroticfish.

my fave neuroticfish song has to be 'why dont you hate me' or 'i dont need this city'

  • Great "synthumentary"(c)!

    The best I've ever seen.

Eternal shine of spotless synth pop!

It's time to make part 10/10 with "children of synthy indie": Royksopp, MGMT, Cut Copy, Passion Pit, Hot Chip, Mike Snow, La Roux, Empire Of The Sun, Hair Glow, Delphic, Parallels.

  • I think it's still too early to make a documentary about the current (British) electronic/dance scene. I'd rather leave that for, say, between 2030 and 2035. You'll get a whole lot clearer picture of it then than now. Only time can say that.

  • I like how the voice-over goes, "Cabaret Voltaire were neither into ponytails nor popularity", as the camera pans over Richard Kirk's ponytail.

  • Ha ha. Topnotch observation that, BabysGotTheRabies! I wonder why I haven't noticed it yet. Thumbs up in any case!

  • 1981 The Police "Invisible Sun"

  • The real soundtrack to 1981:

Cabaret Voltaire - Red Mecca (the whole album)

    The Specials - Ghost Town

    UB40 - One In Ten

    The Police - Invisible Sun

    ;-) :-)

  • Reynolds nailed it: "it's an affront to rockism, just the look of these bands."

  • totally. Glam + Pop meets MTV = new wave

  • no its a&r woman for Goylagg Records Joyce McAveney.
