Mika only struggled to win the 1999 WDC because of poor reliability of the McLaren. Irvine was appallingly slow, even needing a driver as unremarkable as Mika Salo to gift him a win in Germany to keep him in the hunt. If anything Schumi came back stronger than ever after his leg injury.
Amazing to think that both Mika and Michael were equally double champions after this season before Michael went on to win 5 titles in a row... I hope Alonso goes on to do something similar with Vettel...
1) It was ITV that covered F1 in 2000 so it is ITV commentary and not BBC and 2) I have seen better overtakes at club racing and cadet karting, Four wide overtaking at 200mph is something to watch
Häkkinen is better driver than schumacher, schumacher just got lucky to have best car and only barrichello as a teammate, ofcourse schumacher is good but mika is better!
@tumppuri Hakkinen struggled to beat Irvine for the 1999 WC and if Schumi hadn't taken points away from Eddie before his injury, Irvine would have been WC. When Michael arrived at Ferrari, they were the 3rd or 4th best car on the grid and wouldn't be the best car until 2000 or 2001, yet he was in the title hunt right down to the last race in 1997 and 1998. Mika's a great driver, too, but he is to Michael what Mansell was to Senna.
@TheEdRock77 the first two you mentioned were the heavywieght championship fights of the century now its just jello wrestling with the guys we have now...
@dtmfan Actually Michael won the race from pole. Michael was only behind him due to pit strategy, so it wasn't really much of a true battle rather than simply waiting for Mika to pit. Mika finished 4th after letting Coulthard pass.
@dtmfan Sorry, somehow the comment was about the wrong video. I watched one about Mika's last race right afterwards and must have hit the back button then read the comments.
@SimoMcGauneo No mate, it's on the BBC Red Button's Classic F1 Series, where basically they will pick a driver and he will pick his favourite 4 or 5 Grand Prix's, in this case it was Michael Schumacher and this was one of his races: The 2000 Belgian Grand Prix. Hope this helps.
@91Topgear can you get team radio messages for some specific races ??? 2001Hungary......2002French GP .....2003 Suzuka.......2004 Spa.......2006 Intrerlagos ....
This was one of the only 2 grand prixs I have ever been too and the overtake was right infront of me. i even took photos of it and had them in sequence. Stoked!
the same move happens all the time on that straight. 1999 Alesi overtook Barrichello and Wurz, then couple of years later Trulli did it to Alesi and Villnueve. only on those occasions all the cars where on the same lap. also there is no point in recording sd video in hd.
just z should be s, but its pronounced quite similarly.

simplythebest12341 3 months ago
@simplythebest12341 But THIS clip was real racing....no KERS, no DRS, no tyres that fall apart after a few laps....Mika won the race by pure pace :)

@gturner38 Are you sure, you are talking to the right person ? Or about the correct race ? Mika won at Spa in 2000.
What you are talking about sounds like Mikas last race in F1 - Suzuka/Japan 2001. You´re confusing me...

you comment is totally pointless
this has been confirmed by all to be probably the best pass in f1 history

@rastamees ok then you should have no problem in explaining why this one was better then the 2 examples I gave.

because it was between 2 of the best drivers
the epic battle of those years between hakkinen and schumacher, and this was one of the best moments
