4th point: Sharia law is a diverse term, and those countries that live under it today do not follow a model of sharia during the time of Mohamed (PBUH) or at the hight of the Islamic Golden Age. Must have been in a dark mood that day. haha To answer your question: The issue with Sharia law is this: It takes away civil rights from women, for just one example. In the west we are working toward gender equality. Sharia law would destroy that. We consider equality to be an inalienable right - it cannot be taken away by ANY person or institution.

Therefore, Sharia law is incompatible with western law and culture. And no matter what, we're not going to give up on the progress we've made, so those who want Sharia law should just leave or simply accept our system. As for gay rights, I don't believe it is the same thing. Gay rights in a civil equality issue, just as gender equality is - those who are against gay rights are on the same side of the spectrum as those who want Sharia law. You're comparing apples to oranges.
