I was reading that keeping the gearbox has an advantage when you want to preserve the longevity of the motor and batteries, you just dont use it like you would in an ICE drivetrain. (example, you can keep it in 2nd or third, and rarely hit 4th or 5th, or even need to, and 1st would be used for extreme situations where you need almost all of the engine torque)
All of this on RWD cars, anyway. They also recommended AC motors due to less complexity overall. Have you heard this?
@ibehaywire there are some easy plans I posted-however it is all about resourcing cheap parts-try hire car company's for their used batteries then re put acid in them-resourceful
Electrical energy can be moved to make such a car is an excellent event.
What is the maximum speed the car can do? Max is the way how many miles? This is the car used in the electric motor, designed for carsDid he? With direct currentDid he electric motor works? An allowance or credit for such applications in your country have? Does it give you money in the state for this issue?
@phinch1 You are right , they will not invest in it because they would lose billions , But they can`t get away with it because we will research and find out what`s needed to convert our own cars in our back yards just like in the US .
what are the alternatives? NiMH and Li-X both have issues that are not easy to handle. lead batteries are robust, inexpensive, easy to service and charge.
sure their energy / weight ratio is inferior but anything else it too complicated.
@darkmonk99 Forget Air Zinc. At the time it was and probably promising but I think ultra capacitors or or hybrid batteries will be the future. A capacitor can be cycled millions of times and is not affected by the temp. It's cost are probably more but that will come down and they don't need lithium.

why is it so difficult to produce electric cars for the general public, when a group of students did it so well?

Because in the Uk, about 75% of what is charged for petrol is taxed..... They would lose billions, thats why they won't invest in it
