  • i catch like 40 of thoughs a month

  • I dont know many my grandpa, dad, and I have caught but im pretty damn sure I have each caught a few over 20lbs. They arent very sought after fish, more a fight than anything, so I never thought to turn over weights. Ive seen some pulled out that are 3ft long, and again, the redneck was just happy he caught something and.was.hungry.

  • do you just fillet them like any other fish? I caught 2 little buggers (7 and 8 lbs) last summer and dident know what to do with them.

  • Wow, bowfin don't even grow to be 4 ft. long. If you doubt what I am saying is true then go to the Bowfin Anglers Group.

  • i frum south louisiana and there called chupic i usually catch them on worms shrimp plastic crawfish

  • I caught another bow fin almost bigger then the last one on a fly rod

  • when you pull a fish like that out of the water, all of the fishes wieght is 100% completely on the hook, connected to his mouth, which must hurt like hell, hence, jumping around like that, which you call dancing and enjoy.

  • bowfin will eat anything they can get their mouths on, ive caught them on just about ever "bass" lure that i own to date haha. they are probably one of the funnest fish to "attempt to reel in especially if your using soft bait and have no leader on your line.

several times i have went fishing and they have poped my line with a leader tied onto 25 pound braid. 8-0

  • down here in south louisiana we call em choupic (shoe-pick) and we dont really catch out in open water like that. usually in small canals and small bodys that are dark, usually black water. they taste great!

  • nice fish There is some big ones up where i come from so 15-20 pounders...they are just a nice majestic fish...the ones up here in NY have nice pretty blue fins

  • what is the music on theis vid. plez i like the way it sounds

  • ha ha that scared me good job

  • i am from louisiana and there is a lot of bowfin there.we call them choupique.i never caught one but my dad used to catch them. we heard that there are not any in texas but we found a new spot and people have caught some there. we will try to catch some this summer. nice vid.

  • I caught a bow fin 4 feet long and it had freakin fangs!

  • 4-feet is a HUGE bowfin!

  • Bowfin don't reach a length of 4 ft. just check out Bowfin Anglers Group if you doubt me.

  • Bowfin don't even grow to be 4 ft. long. If you doubt this check out the Bowfin Anglers Group.

  • @mrteehee3118able i think you might be thinking of a snakehead.....

  • @mrteehee3118able LOL@4 feet, the world record bowfin is 21lbs it was 37" long,a 4 ft bowfin would have crushed the record if it really existed!

  • don't ya just hate it when you think you have a huge bass on the line and ya bring it up and its just a grentle (bowfin)

  • bro me and my friends catch bowfin like crazy at the everglades in miami check out the videos of my friend carag001 look it up the bowfins we cath RE HUGE

  • Thats what i saw under the bridge 0.0

  • very dark color

  • here in arkansas we vall em grinners they're good when hot right out of the grease

  • yes! and down here in south louisiana we call em Choupic. the best fish patties or balls you will ever have. but my fav is hot out of the grease on some freshly cooked rice.

  • Around here the rednecks call em scaly cats

  • In South Carolina they call them Mudfish. Ugly as sin but fight like hell.

  • i caught my first bowfin saturday..26 inches 15lb..im now a fan

  • Definatly not trash fish, but you must prepare them correctly. You have to keep the fish alive until you are ready to clean it. Its best to knock it out with a pipe on the head or something before you are about to clean it otherwise they will jump and you can make a nasty cut on your hand. Once you filet it like any other fish and cut the ribs out, cut the meet in 1/2inch pieces all the way down the filet. Batter them up in some Zatarans fish fry and cook them very quickly.

  • You all right these fish have a lot of teeth and they fight like a bull dog. Thanks for the post.

  • we catch bowfin up in wisconsin they can put up a good fight, and as u said in 1:25 they have a mouth full of teeth and ive seen them up close they have about 3 or 4 rows of razor teeth.

  • A lotta of my people in Louisiana cook bowfish its called choupique balls.

  • Southern Boy, take it from a true Texas bowfin fisherman nicknamed "Bowfin", that fish is fat, but not as fat as the 18 pounder I had at Caddo lake on a Van Dam spinnerbait. Hooked a bigger one last year but he dang thing broke the hook in half and swam off! Bowfin Rock in Texas!

  • did one guy say garbage fish? man man man it must be true what they say one mans trash is another mans tresure. if you had some of these choupique patties down here it'll make you slap your mama lmao

  • I agree this fish are good eating if you cook it right...

  • @vacherieBoi ik!!!..catching choupique in louisiana is like the best fish you can get!!!

  • hahaha how to make a fish dance.....

    very nice

  • how big do dogfish get down there? I'd naturally assume bigger than we got here.

  • Average bowfin in Central FL is between 20" to 34" long between 4 to 15lbs. State record is over 20lbs.

  • I'm from WI and I like to fish bowfin a lot. they're hard to find because up here and the garbage fish like bowfin and bass have competition from walleyes, smallmouths, pike, etc. I only know of one good spot where I live and they are a blast to catch.

  • I agree these fish are fun to catch. It's like fighting a bull dog in the water. Keep fishing!

  • yea i wish there was more spots in new york to catch these things but i every summer/spring i catch huge bowfin at the bashakill in wurtsboro new york...great fighters...great video too

  • New York is a great place to fish! Thanks for the post.

  • The first time I caught one of those, it almost made me jump out of the boat, when it came crawling across the floor of the boat to get me...lol Those things can scoot fast on land.

  • I catch those bowfin here in Ontario every year. I use live bait for them, by far the best fighting fish out there.

  • I completely agree. Thanks for the post.

  • wow, great video. I just had a great bowfin fishing trip myself here in south louisiana. I was catching fish 2 inches or same size of yours that you showed. I was curious if you have trouble catching them in cold weather as i am here now? Also what's the exact name of the bait you use and color?

  • I usually catch bowfin on 10" worms and slow rolling spinner baits in the winter. Water temperature is about 64-degrees this weekend. I caught the bowfin on a Red fish bait called Red Fish magic by Strike King (Wal-Mart special). This bait works great here in FL.

  • The color was chartreuse.

  • Norm, sweet! The next sci-fi thriller should be "alien vs bowfin". Those critters are mean! I can't wait to not catch one ever again.

  • That sounds like a great movie!

  • cool video bud.

  • Thanks for the post.

  • nice jod and good fight *****

  • Thanks for the 5*. These fish are like bull dogs in the water.

  • Very Nice. 5*
