There's a big difference between plasma TVs and health care, Rudy. Plasma TVs are a luxury item. At $15K there was a very limited market. If they lower the prices, they increase the size of the market considerably. The market for health care coverage is a fixed size. I do agree with him though about Americans treating health insurance as an entitlement.

Rudy, is partly right about healthcare, and also incorrect. You need to delinke healthcare from employment and let markets be sensitive costs. Yet, expectation rise each time on what is good care, and what is bad. Universal coverage thru markets is the way to go. Use tax code to encourage purcahse of coverage thru the markets, but subidise coverage for people up 300% above the poverty line to buy it on the market.

i once knew a guy who died because he didn't have a plasma tv. he had a heart attack moving his heavy old-fashioned television and his actual last dying words were "socialized television wouldn't have helped because without market-based television production, the plasma tv would have never existed!"
