Every time I hear the phrase, "free health care", it makes me shudder. There is no such thing as "free" health care, or free anything from the Government. It's nonsense to view it that way. The fact that there is no free lunch is a concept that even children understand.

so people do not drown in debt.I was injured on the job and was supposed to go into a nurse home for a month but instead I was kicked out of the hospital because my boss and his buddy coowner and the insurance carrier were commiting insurance fraud and now workers comp will not approve my medical care so I take 80-100 tylenol in 4 days to help my pain in my body instead of getting the care I need.

Alan Keyes has a knack for clarifying the moral issues at stake in every debate. When presented this way, the Republicans couldn't lose the issue in debate or in a vote on the floor of Congress. @apacheslim, i understand why welfare is unappealing but i will never understand why americans hate free health care. a mate of mine is american, he told me that a mate of his in the US was diagnosed with cancer but because his family were poor they couldn't afford the operation to have the tumour removed and pay the rent and feed the rest of the family. so they were evicted, went to the ymca, and only just managed to afford the operation. whole family in ruins because of that seems ridiculous.

I don't know about American's in general but as an American, to me, socialism seems to reward everybody for my hard work. If I go to work and make a good wage, what right does anyone else have to it? It's mine to do with as I see fit. That may sound selfish but it is true. I don't work for the greater good, I work for me and mine. It has been that way in America for a long time and we are the most powerful nation on the planet because of it. Just my thoughts. Peace.

so people do not drown in debt.I was injured on the job and was supposed to go into a nurse home for a month but instead I was kicked out of the hospital because my boss and his buddy coowner and the insurance carrier were commiting insurance fraud and now workers comp will not approve my medical care so I take 80-100 tylenol in 4 days to help my pain in my body instead of getting the care I need.

If someone has been shot and the victim is not insured, no American hospital will turn the victim away, they will do everything within their power to save the victim's life. Everyone in this country receives health care, but not everyone has health care insurance. It's a dumb mistake for people to say "overseas" when they mean outside of the US.

If free market, and not socialist, principles were employed, there would be more entry into healthcare industries, an increase in the supply of doctors, reduced prices, and an increase in the availability of goods and services to those who need health care. A gov't takeover of the health care system will drive up prices, reduce efficiency, and cost the taxpayer more and more. As Margaret Thatcher once put it: "The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money".

Not only that, but there will be no way to know if medical resources are being used efficiently since there will not be a need for profit and loss statements. Resources are allocated even more inefficiently, look to the USSR's five year plans or Mao's agrarian reforms if you want to see how well government takeovers of formerly private industries work. For all of these reasons it should be obvious to you that this system will amount to Americans paying more than what they do today.

Through the govt's arbitrary licensing and regulatory procedures, the supply of goods and services to people most in need of health care are artificially restricted. Under the proposed new system, you will pay more since you will pay regular costs for services plus additional costs to run the new healthcare bureaucracy.

You use the word "profiteering" as if making profits were a bad thing. There needs to be reform in the industry, especially with regard to unfair bureaucratic practices. But it is not the government's job or obligation to institute such reform. You think that handing the keys over to government bureaucrats will help the situation? When has a governmental bureaucracy ever been run efficiently? Ask someone who stands in line at the DMV for 4 hours how well government bureaucracies are run.

I hope they don't move to Dubai...our transportation grid, fire department, police department are social programs, when everyone collectively pays for a service, a service that society uses, it is socialism, whether it is bid out to a private company or not. I am a independent and I DO NOT believe in either party is in the interest of the people . Both parties are a one party system posting as 2 different factions. If anything I am a more libertarian. After reading the health bill for the last 5 days and taking my own footnotes and writing in plain English, The Bill is very scary and has hints of socialism and it has the healthcare industry , total governmental control claws written all over it. I never cared for Keyes but he is right on with this!
