I think it's a really great documentary about one of the greatest cities in the world. It shines an unflinching light on New York at its very worst and its very best. And yes it has all the same issues as any other major city in the US. But it offers anyone, ANYONE, with the will and drive to succeed like no where else in the world.
This video over-glorifies new york. Yea there are people are different cultures and ethnicites but most of the black people still live on the threshold of poverty and it still has one of the largest homeless populations of any other place in the country or the world. And these people tend to be ignored by the average city dweller still. So stop making it seem like it is such glorious place of acceptance when it's only like that for people with money. Which by the way you NEED to survive there.
@LittleEmoBoy001 Actually in the borough of Queens, the median income of African Americans exceed that of whites in the same location. Homelessness is, and will likely always remain, a feature of living in an urban enviornment...lets not forget Los Angeles county's homelessness rate exceeds that of New York City and has for more than a decade.
My point is it's not a glorious place of acceptance when most black people there still live on the threshold of poverty in their ghetto environments and there are thousands if not hundreds of thousands of homeless people who people ignore like they are a disease. What you said was a digression from, not a response to what I said.
@LittleEmoBoy001 It's an 8 part series...this is a very small excerpt of part 1. As a filmmaker you try to capture your audience, hence the opening tone. Entire episodes are dedicated to the problems of poverty, labor, corruption, racism and political upheaval. The central thesis of the production is not how wonderful and happy New York is, but rather how, with all its various shortcomings, it has developed and persisted in spite of forces which have tried to divide it since its inception.
Point taken, I just am not as in love with new york city as most people I guess. I see it as just another microcosm of this world we live in. I prefer cities like chicago, the energy in that said seems much more relaxed and people do not seem to ignore the homeless as much, from my observations. I know this might sound strange but from my perspective New York seems to induce a state of selfishness in people that cannot be shaken. It is rather sad.
Because I think life would be better if the economy were more geared toward getting people out of poverty instead of keeping a certain amount of them there so the rich can continue thriving? And please don't give me this 'free market' crap. I've heard that non sequitur argument ad infinitum. It's old, crusty and has no place here.
I am talking about what can be done about poverty and this excessive divide between classes of people in cities like new york and los angeles, not just saying hey, there are homeless people, what do ya know!

New York really is a great city. I'm Canadian and was fortunate enough to visit this extraordinary city just a few months ago. An unforgettable experience, and I'm looking forward to visiting again very soon.
I go to NYC to visit my son a few times per month and it is always an exciting experience.
Favorite Quote : When New York was founded at the dawn of the modern age, London and Paris were already 1,500 years old, Rome and Beijing 2,000, Jerusalem 4,00. And yet somehow, in the centuries to come, the tiny colony on the edge of the world would rise to become the greatest city on earth. The undisputed cultural and economic capital of the world, and the supreme laboratory of modern life.

@gg718707753 Do u reckon i mean the English, Spanish & French had native people from their colonies living in their home cities. London, Paris & Madrid were doing this experiment 200 years plus b4 & on a much larger scale.
@inkermanBs2 The point that is being made is that New York, which is a very young city compared to London, Paris, Rome, Beijing, Madrid, etc, has, in a relatively short time, become the GREATEST City on earth. And...there is no other city in the world with a more diverse population. Not even close !
This is the guy who put the trailer of the documentary here. It's low quality because I recorded it with a webcam pointing at the TV. I'd like to put the entire documentary here, but I don't know how to do it with higher quality. Is there a chance you could tell me how you did it?
Its a version of "Aquarela do Brasil" composed by Michael Kamen originally for the 1985 movie Brazil.

New York should be destroyed and the financial capital relocated to Houston

Why?
So the Nazi Bush family don't have to stop on their way back and forth from Maine to Houston?

The US Constitution guarantees:
Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness....
These are liberal concepts regarding the absence of serfdom, slavery and indentured servitude.
"Liberty" also indicates freedom from a state-sponsored religion (as exists in the UK and Saudi Arabia)
