6 frames per second in IE sounds about right. I'm in Debian 6 and using Chrome and getting 60. So whats the hype about? Firefox is getting the same FPS. Epiphany is getting slow FPS like 12fps but its not a wide used browser. So basically this technology is a bunch of bullshit to make up for slow outdated Internet Explorer.
@linuxguy2009 i dont want to sound like a troll but you miss out the point for sure. you have not lissen or you are just a dumb nutt is not that bad but he belive what you like to belive.
@RalphCQ the GDDR 5 is almost the same like DDR3 however the GDDR 5 speaks diffrend to the i/o poorts in other word the GDDR 5 is or have a small bus speed 256 and the DDR3 got a 512bus. the CPU performance is close to a core i3. This is still the best thing out there. It sucks alot of company like SONY and retailers jack their laptop price up though the chip is cheap to produce.
IE 9 still has serious lag when you start clicking load more to see 2000+ videos on youtube. Mozilla Firefox doesn't suffer from that lag though.. I still get lower FPS in Mozilla on Flying Images but it seems when a page is seriously loaded like youtube Mozilla is still faster...
60 FPS on IE 9 in Browser Flip. I had IE 9 before but it wasn't fast.. it was slow, perhaps it was the early beta I couldn't update to the latest one because no windows updates showed.
33 FPS with 100 images on the same PC with Mozilla I only get 14 FPS. On IE I get 5 FPS. What? Their AMD fusion is better than my PC? I even thought it was because of higher res so I dropped it to 1280x768 but I still dropped to like 26 FPS. I thought it was because I of my enabled enhancements in Catalyst Control Panel but after disabling the FPS was the same. Honestly this setup is faster than my high end setup for web browsing? wow

Business users do have a need for this because they also go online and have to deal with whatever stupid marketing fluff, Flash intros, ads, etc. All that stuff slows down the browser, and here AMD is showing how Fusion actually fixes that problem.
Well this answear ultimate question! Is AMD CPU is fast no is not! AMD is still relying on gpu instead. I was wating for these new cpus for a long time. AMD is with its old market strategy and talking about mutlimedia power. I want some productivity power and this only cpu can deliver.
What a sham. This does nothing to advance computer technology. It's just a ploy to capture more marketshare by AMD. They're targeting mainstream web browsing people and businesses. The problem is, every major motherboard manufacturer already makes motherboards with built in graphics.
News Flash: most businesses don't care about a bunch of spinning .jpgs on a browser.
@mhaneline That's not true. AMD's Fusion processors integrate processor and GPU into a single die that's even smaller than current multi core processor platforms. This allows more powerful and more complex computing solutions into smaller form factors without taking a decrease in power like we do in current mobile computing platforms. Desktops are far more powerful than laptops and laptops more powerful than netbooks. This doesn't have to be so with AMD's Fusion APUs.
Which Fusion APU is this being demo'ed?...I hear AMD is releasing two solutions: One is codenamed "Ontario" (supposed to go up against Intel Atom), and the other is "Llano" (supposed to replace the current Athlon II line.)
@aussiebear22 the "Ontario" has been released as the Bobcat, and the "Llano" core will be called Bulldozer. They are incredibly powerful. Check Endgadget(.)com to see a Bobcat APU beating down on a poor Intel Core i5 with Intel graphics. In the demo game, Intel never goes above25fps, and averages around 19. The AMD APU, however, never dips below 28fps and averages around 40.
@aussiebear22 the "Ontario" has been released as the Bobcat, and the "Llano" core will be called Bulldozer. They are incredibly powerful. The AMD APU, however, never dips below 28fps and averages around 40. That was the netbook variant, so you can see how effective these cores are.
You are correct about Ontario being based off of the Bobcat core, but Llano is actually a modified Phenom II core (K10.5 architecture) with a Cedar class DX11 GPU. Bulldozer is an entirely new architecture designed to compete with Intel's upcoming Sandy Bridge. The first iterations of Bulldozer will be a standalone CPU with later versions being made into an APU.
@cagadaman hmm, thats dissapointing. AMD should hit the ground running with theBulldozer APUs. the Phemon x6 black edition is ample power for today, and tomorrow. a quick question: the cedar class DX11 GPU, what ATI card is its performance comparable to?
I agree completely. AMD needs something out on the market that can compete with Sandy Bridge (or Nehalem even) not only in price, but more importantly, in performance. Hopefully Bulldozer is up to the task and won't be a flop like Barcelona was. To answer your question, the Cedar class GPU is anything in the Radeon 5000 series. AMD hasn't announced the specifics as to which exact models from the series they'll be using in their APU's, but expect enough for low-mid end gaming.
@BlakStrakt The GPU-based IGP in Llano is approx a Radeon HD 55xx/56xx class. The GPU in the Bobcat-based "Zacate" is approx a Radeon HD 54xx class.
Essentially, AMD will bring budget and mainstream GPU performance into a CPU! They will leave the upper end (Radeon HD 57xx and greater) as discrete video cards.
@aussiebear22 How will the upper-end GPU work very well as a discrete card? Also, will there be any motherboards that can take advantage of an APU AND a PCIE slot-type GPU card simultaneously? Or is that just superfluous?
Ontario/Zacate or Radeon HD 54xx => Budget market.
Llano or Radeon HD55xx/56xx = Lower-mainstream market.
Radeon HD 57xx = Upper-mainstream market.
Radeon HD 58xx/59xx = Performance/Enthusiast market.
As for your 2nd question, we don't know until AMD provides more details on drivers. (In an APU the entire northbridge+GPU is now on-die with the processor cores. They only need a southbridge chip. Llano/Ontario/Zacate will use the same "Hudson" series southbridge chipset.)
@BlakStrakt Bobcat cores are used in both "Ontario" (9W TDP) and "Zacate" (18W TDP)...AMD has recently demo'ed a prototype platform based on "Zacate". The initial numbers against the Intel notebook were actually with OEM drivers. Anandtech(.)com was allowed to correct it by "force installing" the latest Intel drivers. (AMD allowed this!) ... Even when the Intel solution matched the AMD one, it showed that "Zacate" was able to offer equal experience compared to the more expensive Intel solution.
@aussiebear22 well, Zacate did even (clearly) beat the i5 when it came to frames per second on Arkham Asylum and Alien vs Predator. now keep in mind that Zacate uses the low-power Bobcat architechture. and with Llano using (probably quad-core) Phenom I would not call it lower-mainstream...
The test they were running was CPU on versus APU, not CPU+GPU vs APU.
When I run the test on browser flip or flying or flying images, my Radeon 4870 percentage usage jumps up if I move the mouse rapidly or increase the number of image. Of course your discrete CPU+GPU is going to beat this. Some of you missed the point
I'm a tech idiot. I'm running on an intel pentium T3400 dual core processor and get better performance than this. Why is this supposed to be impressive?
@scrambler77 but amd doesnt suck you idiot, intel at the moment is for high end , but amd has better value and alot more future proof for intel for low, and mid end market, and med-high end market. amd are going to continue to use thier am3 socket for bulldozer, its going to have up to 16 cores, intel are shitting themselves right now, FACT. amd are going to dominate the market share this time because thier staying on the same socket, what you see ion this video is a shitty apu for laptops.Idiot
i made this test using opera 10.60 on a core i5 750@ 2,56GHz with ATI 5670 and 4Go DDR3 1333 MHZ. I got 60 FPS and turned all the tiles in 8 secondes...
My computer is already faster than fusion...using opera
At first this video impressed me but then i made the teste and was amazed to get better results
QSo, these demos are not compiling ECMAscript to run on a parallel superscalar architecture... and the APU is not an extension of 3DNow/SSE that AMD created in the first place...
The hardware blitter on the nintendo 64 can do that browser flip demo just as easily. We all know that a hardware blitter is better than a software blitter.
@sotokorro An APU is (CPU+GPU) so how can you have a GPU+APU? Also, think about power consumption, your X4 plus your discreet graphics card use much more power than the Fusion APU. Also, the Fusion chip demonstrated, is aimed at Laptops, not desktops...
That video didn't say ANYTHING about how Fusion is better or even different compared to standalone CPU and GPU. Tell me AMD, why should I get something with Fusion based on that demonstration?
llano, which is the first fusion apu is a phenom 2 cpu, with a 5000 series ati gpu. it is the same cpu he is using, just with or without gpu acceleration. Llano will stay around the same 3. ghz range.
Vista, vista, vista, IE6 this, IE6 that.
But what about Linux drivers??

Mid-2006: AMD buys ATI.
Mid-2007: AMD "Falcon" series (APUs: Bulldozer-based 10W to 100W; and Bobcat-based 1W to 10W.)
End of 2007: AMD "Swift" (Bulldozer core replaced by K10-based...Bulldozer V1 failed.)
End of 2008: AMD changes roadmap. Far less aggressive than the original "Falcon" approach. "Swift" is scrapped due to extremely poor yields.

same plateforme tryed browser flip
3-4 fps with chrome
25 fps with firefox
55-60fps with safari
so get yourself an opera 10.60 problem solved.
shadanzar 1 year ago
i made this test using opera 10.60 on a core i5 750@ 2,56GHz with ATI 5670 and 4Go DDR3 1333 MHZ. I got 60 FPS and turned all the tiles in 8 secondes...
My computer is already faster than fusion...using opera
At first this video impressed me but then i made the teste and was amazed to get better results
shadanzar 1 year ago
@shadanzar but you used opera.. lol and for a gpu in a cpu thats incredible.

AMD, I am disappoint.

I Got 45 FPS by 256 Images on Flying Images :D

I got 12 FPS on chrome and 60 on Explorer 9

na its a amd athlon II phenom x4, why would i need an APU when i got a quad core. How about gpu with integrated apu
sotokorro 1 year ago
@sotokorro An APU is (CPU+GPU) so how can you have a GPU+APU? Also, think about power consumption, your X4 plus your discreet graphics card use much more power than the Fusion APU. Also, the Fusion chip demonstrated, is aimed at Laptops, not desktops...
Feircejaguar 1 year ago
That video didn't say ANYTHING about how Fusion is better or even different compared to standalone CPU and GPU. Tell me AMD, why should I get something with Fusion based on that demonstration?
Jackcabbit 1 year ago
Lol'd i got 60Fps max on the 'Browser Flip ' and i got 20 when i did the Flying Images.. :P
cjgan80 1 year ago
@cjgan80 yes, but you have a discrete GPU thats probably sucking much more power than that APU on its own without even counting the CPU...
Feircejaguar 1 year ago
kick-ass..The Future is indeed Fusion..
rashmikant20 1 year ago
I got 60fps and i dont have apu either =D
jack99601 1 year ago
COOOOL, so if you open Task manager do you see cpu cores+gpu?
pajo50 1 year ago
lol I got 51 fps and i dont have apu
sotokorro 1 year ago
@sotokorro Yes but is your cpu a single core like this APU?
xBlueXFoxx 1 year ago
@xBlueXFoxx Fusion will only come in Quad Core and Dual Core flavors...no single cores...
Feircejaguar 1 year ago
I have an amd phenom ii x4 955 and an ati 5850 graphics card.these browsers look cool!
RATSHADY 1 year ago
so i must have fusion to make multimedia accelerated, or a discrete video card (like my ATi HD 4890) should do it?
baidas4 1 year ago
llano, which is the first fusion apu is a phenom 2 cpu, with a 5000 series ati gpu. it is the same cpu he is using, just with or without gpu acceleration. Llano will stay around the same 3. ghz range.
MegaAssface 1 year ago
will this work well in linux is my only question. AMD better open source these drivers.
jordantryon 1 year ago 24
@jordantryon., AMD is working very closely with Linux especially ever since they decided to support Nokia/Intel's Meego OS.
Go to Google, and input hopen and look at honline's Kernel Log which talks about AMD's Fusion.
3987Gara 1 year ago
@jordantryon AMD released the APU firmware drivers for the kernel.
I don't know if gallium will work with it right now.

Could you let us know the specs of the regular CPU and this Fusion CPU? Either way I think it is a good idea.
